"The Taipei Fine Arts Museum (TFAM) officially opened its doors on August 8, and its initial exhibition was unveiled on December 24, 1983."

"Imagine that you are traveling into Washington, D.C., from northern Virginia. As you approach the Potomac River, you see the tall, craggy, medieval-looking towers of the Ulysses S. Grant Memorial Bridge looming in the foreground, largely blocking the view of the National Mall beyond. As you reach the end of the bridge, now you can clearly see the enormous pyramid that was built to honor Abraham Lincoln. Going around to the side of the pyramid, you note the odd, pagoda-like structure dedicated to George Washington—a design that was executed after the original obelisk had stood unfinished for decades. Surrounding these monuments are informal paths that meander through dense woods, which help to filter the noise from the two elevated highways running along either side of the Mall. Barely visible in the distance is the Capitol, a dignified but modest structure that looks rather like a classroom building at a liberal arts college, topped by a tiny cupola."

"The National Egyptian Museum is currently guarded by tanks. Dr. Zahi Hawass, Head of the Supreme Council of Antiquities claims over 1,000 protesters stole from the gift shop, with ten making it into the galleries and smashing glass vitrines and antique statues, including one of King Tutankhamen, as well as beheading two mummies. Wafaa El-Saddik, former director of the Egyptian Museum, believes the museum’s own guards did the looting, who are hugely underpaid. Egypt is not known for its museum security, the Mahmoud Khalil Museum having lost a valued $50 million Van Gogh recently while only seven of 43 security cameras were actually functioning. The Coptic Museum, the National Museum of Alexandria, and El Manial Museum foiled looters, though the Memphis Museum was not so lucky, losing much of its contents."

"The new museum artfully traces his vivid path from ambitious provincial to renegade Parisian luminary to the political outcast he became in his final years. It also locates the artist securely within his native locale. One can glimpse from its windows the same chalky, limestone cliffs that Courbet painted with a palette knife and thick slabs of pigment. \\ In the aftermath of the French Commune (1871), the artist fell into disgrace. Implicated in the infamous destruction of the Vendome Column in Paris, Courbet was imprisoned. In the final galleries, Courbet's tragic last chapter is poignantly set forth. His "Self Portrait at St. Pélagie" (c. 1872), one of the true treasures given to Ornans by his sister, Juliette, depicts the artist in prison—emaciated, melancholic but still youthful and sporting the symbolic red scarf of a Communard." http://online.wsj.com/article...

"This year, the institution-critiquing art known as Relational Aesthetics—essentially audience-participation art, often work that moves, lights up, or involves living nude beings—entered its decadent phase. Many museums are drawing audiences with art that is ostensibly more entertaining than stuff that just sits and invites contemplation. Interactivity, gizmos, eating, hanging out, things that make noise—all are now the norm, often edging out much else. [O]stensible populism masquerades as collectivity. All of it says that too many museums now equate happy crowds with quality and experimentation. These shows serve the museums, curators, and trustees. They no longer serve art. In fact, this sensationalism implies that many museums have now fallen behind art."

"The archive contains research on the history and impact of Bauhaus (1919-1933), the most important school of architecture, design, and art of the 20th century. It is the most complete existing collection focused on the history of the school and all aspects of its work and is accessible to everyone. The collection is housed in a building drafted by Walter Gropius, the founder of the school."

"Designs were presented by Charles Renfro, principal at Scofidio + Renfro which was appointed to the project in June 2010, as well as by BAM/PFA director Lawrence Rinder, who described the plans as “innovative, forward-looking, sustainable and useful”. The new cultural hub will emerge downtown, on the site of the old UC Berkeley printing plant at 2120 Oxford Street. With some excavation and new construction, new spaces will be created around the 1939 concrete Art Deco style building, which has been unoccupied since 2004. The proposed design emphasizes transparency — with multiple ways for the public to see in and out of the museum."

"İstanbul, önünde şair ile arkeologun, diplomat ile tüccarın prenses ile gemicinin, Kuzeyli ve Güneylinin, hepsinin aynı hayranlık duygusuyla haykırdığı evrensel ve son derece büyük bir güzelliktir. Bütün dünya, bu kentin dünyanın en güzel yeri olduğu düşüncesindedir."
