"Yesterday’s protests differed from previous ones in two ways. First, they were organized entirely online, lending credence to purported theories of a “cyber-revolution.” Second, more significantly, the turnout sprung from the people themselves; it was not prompted by a call to rally by opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi. In fact, an open invitation, in elegant script on an electronic invite card posted on opposition websites, bid him as well as other reformist leaders Mehdi Karroubi and Mohammad Khatami to join the people “in peaceful marches to honor the tenth anniversary of the student martyrs of June 9, 1999.”

"There's no doubt the vote mattered. Had we not voted, had we not stood in line and suffered this fate together, then we would not have come to the square, we would not be climbing the rooftops every night to sing protests that our votes were so clumsily and needlessly taken away. The fact is that up until four Saturdays ago, Iran's system, with all of its limitations and compromises, was not completely rotten. Our peculiar democracy permitted faith in a residual uncertainty, in the possibility that the guy who can't possibly win, whom they won't let win, still just might. June 12, 2009, ended that uncertainty, brought clarity."

"The following article is published in Tribun.com, a moderate Azerbaijanist website. (It includes, for example, Dr. Reza Baraheni.) Although they have passionate feelings about promoting Azerbaijani language and culture, they identify strongly with Iran. Thus, most of the articles in it concern Iranian politics."

"The quiet enforced on Tehran's streets by the post-election crackdown was shattered Thursday in dramatic clashes between opposition activists and security forces. Plans had circulated for days on Internet social networking sites calling for demonstrations to be staged to observe the 10th anniversary of the violent suppression of pro-reform protests at Tehran University in 1999.
