UK education could be in for yet another shake-up according to a report on the BBC news site. This time it seems that the quangos want youngsters to learn how to use Twitter and Wikipedia. I'm all for teaching children how to use the web but where is the common sense in getting kids to use Twitter? Above all else, it's an Instant messaging system where the content is unregulated. With tweets limied to no more than a sentence what could the kids learn? Judging by the way my kids txt thier friends I can see issues with spelling as a start. Then the biggest issue is "How do you teach a child to work out what is fact as opposed to wishful thinking?" Roll on the semantic web. At least then there is a chance that the kids can learn from trusted sources by default.

The big news today in web world revolves around two improvements Google have made to the way they offer search results. As you see below they don't specifically say "We've started using semantic technology" they use the phrase 'new technology'. ummm. The other improvement is longer snippets of the page description. There have been a spate of other changes over the past couple of weeks, such as including icons for some adwords advertisers and showing related searches. Google isn't a semantic search engine yet but ... it could (and should) be heading that way.
