Verizon calls AT&T's bluff, demands their suit proceed to trial, putting AT&T in the unenviable position of explaining -- in court -- why the coverage maps, despite being accurate, are inaccurate. - http://www.pcworld.com/busines...
"AT&T is now asking a court on an emergency basis, essentially, to help it cover-up its network's shortcomings. While Verizon was building a 3G network that covers the boonies, AT&T did not."

I love it. I don't really like VZW (I actually have a blood oath never to use them again), but seriously, the audacity of AT& "More bars in more places" "fastest 3g network" T calling VZW commercials misleading just was too much for me.

If "liberal government health care" is anything like Medicare, they won't be sacrificing their seats. What will sacrifice their seats is if moderate Dems just sit and refuse to do anything.

MVB - ha ha. No, I'm serious. The editorial is nuts to leave out that supporting the public option is good _politics_, separate from what one thinks about its merits as policy.
- Andrew C
The editorial was written by a right-leaner at a right-leaning publication, Andrew. What'd you expect?
- MVB (Curmudgeon of FF)
@MVB: i'm with ya. my snark was aimed toward the article, i guess.
- MikeAmundsen
I realize that, Mike. And you do bring up a point that some may not realize: Pelosi and Obama are more often at odds than in agreement.
- MVB (Curmudgeon of FF)
@MVB: what knocks me out is how Pelosi and Obama seem to be unable to come to terms. If P is just so head-strong she's willing to ignore the WH agenda, i'd think O and his team would just call her out and get her to tow the line. but i don't see evidence of any of that. IMO, the Hill is just a mess. this has been a year of all talk and no action, from my POV.
- MikeAmundsen
On health care reform, I think Pelosi and Obama have been doing decent work, the latter maybe a bit less so. Of the three major Dem leaders, Harry Reid has been the most disappointing.
- Andrew C
If you look back about a year I made the unsupported statement that Rham was brought on board specifically to handle Pelosi. I still can't prove it. But if I am correct, he has done a horrid job. And we haven't mentioned Harry, yet. And I completely agree that Congress is in disarray.

Obviously, there won't be the fervor that the iPhone generated. One, there's no such thing as a Motorola fanboy. Second, the advertising for Droid wasn't that extensive.

I find if humorous that engadget didn't even know Sears sold phones. And I agree with Jason's last post. No fanboys and very little announcing.

That said, Verizon is a huge cellphone carrier, so just that will create a much larger market for Droid and Eris that anything else.

not only pay more, for many, pay for the first time. anyone who thinks the health care/insurance problems can be solved by _not_ providing care to some group or by _allowing_ some group to opt out doesn't understand the environment. therefore, anyone pitching a fit about the downside of a system where everyone has to participate is either dumb or obstructionist. period.

Regardless if you think that Obama being president is a good thing or a bad thing, there seems to be one, underlying cause of he being elected: George W. Bush.
I think the previous two terms definitely did a lot to pave the way. I'm not sure that people would have been as receptive to his message if a) Bush had done a better job or b) someone else had been if office.
- pea ♥ fierce as a woozle
That and a bit of charisma and hard work. :-) I think if it were just because of Bush that we would have seen a much closer election. But Bush's presidency made it difficult for the Democrats to lose in 2008; they might even have won with a Corzine-type candidate.
- John (a.k.a. dendroica)
So why did Bush win? Was it because of Clinton/Gore? Why did Clinton win? Was it because Bush Snr?

The pendulum always goes back and forth. People are already tired of Obeezy, hence the GOP's wins last night.
- Derrick
McCain could have tried harder not to run like he would do pretty much everything Bush would do for a third term, though.
- Andrew C
Johnny: Bush didn't win in 2000, but that's another story altogether. He did win in 2004 because John Kerry was such a horrific candidate (I tend to think that was the plan from DNC: nominate someone unelectable so that they would be less likely to end up with a one-term president); Clinton/Gore won in part because GHWB was not a great campaigner, and had not delivered on the promise of his Reaganite pedigree, plus the country had just spent 12 years under those two administrations.
- Bren, Photophobe
Thank McCain. He chose Palin for a reason...
- Gus
I always hear this, but IIRC there were lots of other not-George-W-Bush candidates that didn't win. Same with the notion that anyone who's not GWB is entitled to the Nobel Peace Prize... more like everyone who's not GWB who managed to enthrall the electorate and win despite being an alleged terrorist sympathizer. That's a short list.
- Lo
I cannot argue Mark's point. Competence is always more attractive than indolence.
- Steven Perez
GWB was a part of it, but you can blame the whole damned republicant party for effin the country up. Bush wasn't smart enough to do it on his own. From my perspective, its nice having some intelligence back in the White House after 8 years of across-the-board idiocracy.
- jcunwired
I think Clinton beat GHWB partially because the economy wasn't good in 1992, he raised taxes when he said he wouldn't and alienated his conservative wing. Obama's almost certainly won because the economy was in freefall during the campaign and everyone blamed Republicans. McCain also picked Palin to solidify his base but it completely alienated the centrist Independents, like me, he needed to win.

After all that Williams has been through, the highs and lows over the years, I can't imagine it happening now. It's unfortunate that we have watched F1 go through the whole "manufacturer" issue - again. It's not as though it hasn't happened in F1 before, and I am sure it will happen again. Some of the best technical developments in F1 have taken place with much smaller budgets and independent constructors. That will always be the foundation for F1 - and Williams is a part of that mentality.
- Allan Besselink
I do hope you're right, Allan. It's heartening to see that Lotus are coming back, as well. Maybe Porsche will consider building motors again?
- MVB (Curmudgeon of FF)
We've already heard the "F1 is dying" theme, but I don't see it happening any time soon. There will always be innovators - like Lotus, Williams, Surtees, Tyrell, etc - that will always be in it to build the best. Perhaps I am a little idealistic, but F1 has always been the pinnacle of automotive design endeavors. That won't change. MVB, let's just keep our fingers crossed that history does in fact repeat itself on this one!
