Interesting, but underestimates the amount of lock-in a smartphone implies: initial cost, contract and apps. Web app stores are definitely coming.

Android seems to have its own definition of "fragmentation," one totally different from the main problem plaguing users: not getting OS updates! For Google, Android isn't fragmented because the Market only shows apps that are compatible with your device. Odd. An interesting detail: non-phone devices are now officially supported. I expect tablet profiles to be added to the existing low, medium and high profiles.
