Re: Curation Saturation, and Why We Might Need Information Friction After All - http://www.brasstackthinking.com/2012...
"I think this is something Facebook, as a new media publishing outlet gets better than anyone right now, sponsored ads being an example that leverages the fact that we all consider the *source* above all else before taking action. In traditional media, one of the things that I think has gotten lost with all the bashing of traditional offline publishers is that they are not only in the business of distribution. They have always been in the business of trust and vetting trusted sources of information and commentary. That is a vale proposition worth investing in heavily in the coming years as the number of distribution sources skyrockets due to social media. I guess i might summarize it as follows - Content is King. Trust is Queen." - Hugh Macken
"Susan - Lighting is always something I've had a hard time with... What kind of lamp do you use? Just a normal desk-type lamp?" - Hugh Macken
"Cherryl - Glad you mentioned video editing software. I'd be curious to know what software Chris and others recommend too for people who use windows or mac. Is there a good cloud-based app?" - Hugh Macken

"Frankly I am tired of hearing that content is king. I think it misses the mark. Culture is king. It's the foundation upon which a successful social business is built, IMHO." - Hugh Macken
Re: Framework and Matrix: The Five Ways Companies Organize for Social Business - http://www.web-strategist.com/blog...
"Jeremiah - This post has brought up a number of change management questions in my mind and I thought I would share them here: 1) Is a mature cultural ethos the main reason that you believe "very few companies will ever achieve" the holistic "honeycomb" model? 2) If so, is an immature cultural "ecosystem" the single most important ingredient in successful social media success? 3) Is the lack of a mature organizational culture the #1 obstacle to social media success? 4) Should organizations, therefore be investing more heavily in organizational culture? 5) If so, what would that investment look like? You say you can't force it but surely there must be a way to cultivate it??? If so, how? Perhaps there needs to be a contextual model of sorts for cultivating such a culture. I'd like to propose an agricultural / planting/harvesting model based on a few observations where soil could be seen as the business equivalent of culture: 1. A dandelion is a plant. 2. A dandelion needs - optimal..." - Hugh Macken
"I can't help but think of the word mortgage, which has been on my mind quite a bit lately. I've heard some expand the literal translation of mortgage which is "death pledge" to "grip of death." And I think there is some truth in that looser literal translation. And I also think there is something very revealing about that looser literal translation: Having an interest in something can cost a lot. It can even cost you your very life, either literally or figuratively.  I have been meaning to read Debt: The First 5,000 Years (which, interestingly, was published shortly before the Occupy Wall Street protests picked up steam) by anthropologist @davidgraeber  and this conversation is reawakening my "interest" ;) in doing so!" - Hugh Macken

Re: Top 10 Most Influential Airlines - http://corp.klout.com/blog...
"I agree it is odd. Based on the above post, it would appear Personalized Attention would explain the disparity but I was not aware personalized attention was a key part of the algorithm. If so, why is that a critical measure of *influence*? Seems to me that might be a critical factor for measuring influence of others on them. Right? Also, Southwest is very responsive online from what I've seen but apparently not nearly as attentive digitally as Delta. Klout - Am I correct in deducing the logic behind this? Can you clarify?" - Hugh Macken

"I agree with Shel: "If it works now, use it now." And if there's a book that helps you use if now, read it. Now.However, I can also see some merit to your point. The book is coming out in three or four months. Is it possible the book could be completely out of date by then, if Google, between now and then, announces lots of different features and options for businesses?I believe the answer to that question is no.I'm guessing (a) Chris probably has some privileged information from Google and (b) even if there are some surprises in the next 6 months to a year, the principle-based approach Chris typically applies to social media - in his blog posts and in books like Trust Agents - will keep the book extremely relevant regardless of which bells and whistles are ultimately rolled out by google." - Hugh Macken

""Google+ will skew towards techie-types and be more of a productivity tool than Facebook." I agree. And I also think, in the US at least, it may draw in privacy-concerned business people (perhaps men more so than women) who work within corporations & large organizations. I'm thinking of those, like my brother who works in a large bank, who have joined linkedin but have not jumped on the Facebook bandwagon because of the perception that "it's just a waste of time / filled with gossip" and because of the restrictions their companies have placed on its use. And also because....the Facebook name just carries with it a ton of baggage. Google, on the other hand, has, by and large a respected name in the US. Its failures with social media-ish platforms to date are unknown to the average Jane and Joe. Seems to me the idea of hangouts have a lot of potential for business use but google maybe need to call them something else. Or maybe not! One thing is for sure...it will be interesting to see..." - Hugh Macken

"That is good to know. In a non-marketing / external communications sense, I'm thinking "hangouts" could be useful for business collaboration / internal communication (sort of like a cross between Salesforce Chatter and imeet.com on steroids) although the term "hangout" does not exactly bring to mind serious business discussions. It will be really interesting - for me at least - to see how the business vs. personal use case questions play out. Will G+ be used by business and organizations for internal communications? Or for purposes of external communications / marcom? Or perhaps...both?" - Hugh Macken

"Nice post! I guess my biggest question about G+ is how it will be used by organizations. For example, will organizations and brands be able to create a profile on Google Plus? Or just individuals? So far it looks to me like profiles and circles for those profiles are reserved for individuals. Hmmm.... maybe "squares" or "triangles" for groupings of organizational profiles? :)" - Hugh Macken
