"Tim-- I'm working on that. :) JS-- Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad I could find my calling...or my 2nd calling, rather. Epi-- Just...thank you again for sharing what you do with me. I'm without words. And like I told you on the phone, I'm sooo jealous of the blood pool! Lol"

"There really is more life than PowerPoints and clinicals? Lol Thanks for the comment, C. Glad to know you're doing okay with school and that we both made it to our second year!"

"bethenextstep- I hear the Tour is going to be niceee. I'm still with AT but also sorta with Verizon (don't ask), so when my contract with AT is up, I will def look into the Tour for Verizon Wireless. Kim- Agreed! Did your Curve help you in school too? I'm thinking they should make it part of the required supplies LOL Epi- I can't imagine life without it either! I don't, however, have BlackBerry Maps on my phone. Maybe it's a Verizon thing? I *love* Google Maps though."

"Thanks so much everyone! It is very rewarding to write a hard post and see such a great response to it. To those of you who are here from "authorblog," welcome! Come back sometime..."

"Marcus, Sorry about that. lol I had that post (LMA) saved a while ago and was going to come back to it. Then when I wrote this post on my phone, I guess I just edited the LMA post and forgot to change the title."

"170? Wow! That's CRAZY. I didn't know it was possible to sustain life with a PaCO2 that high. Totally cool that he is at home on O2 now... that is exactly why I want to become a respiratory therapist. I'm really not certain the outcome of this patient. Last thing I remember before I left that morning was he was refusing intubation until his son made the decision for him. I know he (obviously) went back on BiPAP while in the unit, but am unsure of what happened after that."

"@marcus I got it. Thanks. @annie I know what you mean. I ask A LOT (and believe me when I say a lot) of questions. The RTs may seem annoyed or like it bothers them but chances are that is just because they are busy at the time or they do not have the answer. I can't imagine anyone who is in respiratory therapy or nursing or what-have-you that wouldn't want to answer your questions if they knew the answer. If they don't know it or can't tell you, just go to someone else. :)"

"@marcus Check this link: http://web2.facs.org/atls...... . That's a list of all the ATLS courses offeredvia search. I'd contact the American College of Surgeons on the same site or contact the facility you'd like to take the course at regarding who is eligible for the course/exam, etc. As far as I know (and someone please correct me on this if I'm wrong), ATLS is offered for doctors, advanced care providers (NPs, PAs), and critical care paramedics. You may be able to take it without being EMT-P, but I imagine it would be much more difficult that way. @2bestrong Awesome! I had no idea that you wanted work in flight/air transport. Good luck to you!"

"@marcus Thank you for helping spread the word. @2bestrong I appreciate that! Hopefully it will be as good as I'm seeing it play out in my head. @rdjfraser I'm glad you stopped by to send your props. Your blog is proof that students kick ass, too. Keep up the good work, bro. @IE Cool. I'm glad you're on board with this. Submit one, or two...or however many posts you want. It should be excellent. :-) @anniec898 Of course I still plan to post regularly (whatever "regularly" is for a sleep-deprived RT student, lol). No, really, though I'm also planning some pretty good posts here that don't have to do with the carnival. Big changes in '09."

"@C Thanks for the comment. I took Pharm. last semester and I thought it would be a lot of boring memorization but I actually enjoyed it a lot. It's not so much memorizing drug names and dosages (though that is a big part of it!) as much it is learning about the mechanism of action (ie- How the drugs act on the body, how they are absorbed, etc.); There's actually a lot of A involved, especially when you start learning about bronchodilators. I'm not sure what to expect in my diseases class, but it looks pretty interesting from the syllabus. I think I take Procedures II this summer. @anniec898 No problem. That is one of the reasons I decided to write this post. Out of all those books, the two I'd recommend for self-study are Egan's Fundamentals and the Clinical Practitioner's Pocket Guide to Respiratory Care. We were told on the first day that Egan's is our Bible for the next two years. Lol. @kate Thanks for the info. I tried to register on the website a while back and I was having..."

"@Brittany: I'm glad you came across my blog. I appreciate the offer to help me if I need it (and I'm sure I will at some point!!). Good luck with whatever you decide to do, and I hope you'll stop back by some time. @Farrah: Thanks for stopping by my blog! I'm sorry to hear about your brother but at the same time it is wonderful that you are devoting your life to a profession that helps people with the same disease(s). I would definitely enjoy going to that camp and I'll have to seek out some more information from the ALA! I just finished reading an article in ADVANCE for Respiratory Care Practitioners in which BREATHE EASY (the same organization that sponsored the asthma camp, I'm guessing) sent a group of RTs to indian reservations to help the Native Americans with asthma and COPD. I will definitely look into this."

"Katie, Thanks so much for the kind words regarding my blog and the advice about RT school. Glad to have you stop by. I had no idea that you were pre-med until I read the Top RT Blogs of 2008 on the Respiratory Therapy Cave. That's great! I want to wish you good luck with that. I, too, am most likely going to try for med school after I finish respiratory therapy and work in the field for a while. I used to be intimidated by med school to the point that I didn't even consider it as an option, but so far RT school has shown me that I can do anything I work hard for and set my mind to. I hope it all works out for you. --TJ"

"@2bestrong Well I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who has lost hours of their life watching geeky medical videos on YouTube (I like the UAB Emergeny Room Raps)."

"Haha, well yes. The more the merrier! We have Mexican food on X-Mas Eve (we're not Mexican but my mom lived on the border when she was in school so she learned from a lot of her friend's parents) and the whole turkey deal on X-Mas day dinner."

"@Keepbreathing Yes, you're right. At least that's what I've been telling myself all along so I don't seem like a jerk. LOL @2bestrong I almost thought I was dreaming because I've seen A LOT of weird stuff, but nothing this weird, so I could understand how you thought it was made up at first. Thanks for the comment. @VP That's hilarious! A dangler... I work a lot with post-op joint replacement patients, so I know they definitely say stuff like this. Thanks for sharing! Anyone else? What is one of your strangest "confused patient" stories? I know there are tons of them...."

"Lol, it's okay. I was mainly just messing around. For a while I thought I was "anonymous" but the profile on my blog was showing my location-- city and state-- the entire first few months my blog was up and running. Really though, don't worry about it."

"Hey, Long time no "see." I appreciate the comments regarding my blog & the Doc Anonymous show. I was pretty nervous (as I'm sure you could tell) and now that I'm sitting here listening to it, I'm like, "Man, I wish I would have said this and that and this instead, but oh well. That's live radio for you, eh? Likewise, congrats to you on you first semester. Sleep? A little. Coffee? A lot. lol"

"Criselda, Thank you, and I'm glad my post has help you in some ways. It is wonderful that you shadowed an RT for the day because I really believe this is one of the best ways to decide if that is something you want to do with your life. I replied to your recent e-mail. If you have any more questions, just let me know."

"Thanks guys! I'm just about done with editing it, but I'm trying to incorporate one monstrous blogroll of nurse blogs, EMT blogs, RT blogs, MD blogs, PA blogs, NP blogs, etc. so that is taking some time. lol"
