"Football is exactly the analogy I was looking for. It's not that tactics aren't important, but don't over link your fourth quarter strategy when it's 2 minutes into the game."

"That's a tough one. I think the misconception i that you are expected to have solved all those issues. My best tactic is to make sure I've thought through how I would approach each issue. But make it clear we aren't actually taking any action against that yet (or in fact trying not to let it effect our thinking) -- first things first and all that. :)"

"I think I picked this up from Alex Rigopolous over at Harmonix years ago, but it is a wonderful best practice for everyone, regardless of size. One bit of advice I've found over the years is to not keep every week too formulaic. As soon as it is "agenda items 1, 2, 3" with them always in the same order it starts to feel less like a conversation and more like another meeting. It should just be the opportunity for the CEO to speak honestly with his team about how the week is going, what's on his mind, and address any issues. The other habit that Pincus has at Zynga that I like is the "flash all hands" -- if something comes up he just feels like needs to be talked about with the team he will just gather everyone together. Whether it's immediate good news, or some rumor he is worried is going to spiral out of control. All of this is to foster a direct connection from the leader to his team, which is so important."
