"Sprint Nextel provided law enforcement agencies with its customers' (GPS) location information over 8 million times between September 2008 and October 2009. This massive disclosure of sensitive customer information was made possible due to the roll-out by Sprint of a new, special web portal for law enforcement officers. "

It’s the story of people in a meritocracy that gets more purified and competitive by the year, with the time demands growing more and more insistent.

And, if we do the right thing, we can each merge into an insane new caravan of makers who look out for each other, focus on doing great work, and who try to promote things because it made a connection with us. Not because it benefits someone who pays us by the compliment.

This moment, as tough as it is, presents a genuine opportunity for the holistic-minded, the generalists, the generally smart and curious (you know who you are!) to come out from hiding and WORK YOUR MAGIC. You're not just a senior user interaction designer; no, more importantly, you're someone who cares about the customer experience - if I may say, the holistic experience - which will determine the life or death of the company, durnit, and you're going to roll up your sleeves to give the company the best chance possible to survive and maybe even grow in this environment. Shout that to anyone who doubts what this mindset can do.

Nice quote: "JavaScript is the duct tape of the Web. Why? Because you can do anything with it. It's not the steel girders of the web, it's not the laws of physics of the web. Javascript is beloved of web hackers because it's an ultimate kludge material that can stick anything to anything. It's a cloud, a web, a highway, a platform and a floor wax. Guys with attitude use JavaScript."

"But strap on your rubber boots; Tesla's dream has come true. After more than 100 years of dashed hopes, several companies are coming to market with technologies that can safely transmit power through the air -- a breakthrough that portends the literal and figurative untethering of our electronic age. Until this development, after all, the phrase "mobile electronics" has been a lie: How portable is your laptop if it has to feed every four hours, like an embryo, through a cord? How mobile is your phone if it shuts down after too long away from a plug? And how flexible is your business if your production area can't shift because you can't move the ceiling lights? The world is about to be cured of its attachment disorder."

this is from several years ago. And confusingly uses PTs instead of PX

I wouldn't have thought the age of the study would make a lot of difference. The PTs vs PX thing is interesting though, and I suppose screen resolution and font smoothing will have some effect. Do you know if anybody has published anything more recently with a similarly well thought out methodology?

I've found nothing better than Skitch. It's perfect for the key scenarios. Sometimes I fire up Paparazi (sp?) if I need to auto-scroll-capture a tall webpage, but otherwise Skitch kicks ass.
