What happened to Twitter's serendipity? Has Twitter lost it's original purpose? What one guy is doing about it.

Since twitter changed replies the serendipity is much less. Mostly finding new people through retweets or actually meeting them IRL first.Follow Friday is lame because people just post list or retweet without adding value.
