$278M XMAS WEEKEND IS BIGGEST EVER! ‘Avatar’ Back On Top By Beating ‘Sherlock Holmes’; 3D Technopic Takes In $617M Worldwide; ‘Alvin Squeakquel’ Opens #3 – Deadline.com
"It's official: 20th Century Fox's week-old Avatar fell behind Friday, but was back on top Saturday, and easily beat Warner Bros' newcomer Sherlock Holmes for No. 1 this 3-day Christmas weekend in North American theaters. As usual, the Hollywood box office experts (who had predicted this to me last week but I doubted them) were right on the money. Avatar's take was $23.5M Friday and $28.5M Saturday for the $75M weekend with Sunday's estimate. As for Sherlock Holmes' numbers, the Guy Ritchie directed mystery thriller with Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law made $24.8M Friday and $22.5M Saturday for a slightly less than expected $66M weekend --though Sherlock is playing in 170 more theaters" - RAPatton from Bookmarklet
"Updated numbers from overseas for Avatar show James Cameron's big budget epic has made at least $212.2M domestic, $405M foreign (after taking in $145M from 14,844 screens in 108 countries this weekend), for a new cume of $617M worldwide. IMAX broke all its records as the giant format earned $12.1 million globally this weekend alone. Avatar's weekend result comes despite theater... more... - RAPatton
"The Weinstein Co's Nine was the miss of this weekend: only $5.5M after expanding into 1,412 theaters when Hollywood was expecting at least $9M. Seriously, who did Harvey think would see this very sexy (therefore very heterosexual) musical? Though it grabbed Golden Globe nominations, it can't grab an audience which may hurt it come Oscars. What a miscalculation, especially when many other TWC films were put on hold to focus on it. " - RAPatton

Dear FriendFeed... Merry Xmas... Love Johnny
wrapped_present_box.jpg
Looking back on another year, my second Xmas with the Double Fs, I have come to appreciate the power and complete kickassedness of a lot of you here. For me, putting aside one's personal spiritual persuasions, Xmas is about taking stock of the ones you know and the ones you hold dear. This year has been hard for a lot of us. Some of us have battle personal tragedy. Some of us have battled financial stresses. Some of us have battled illness or disease... some continue that battle and you are in our thoughts. The year kicked off in spectacular fashion with the birth of Audrey Moskovitz. I have enjoyed watching her grow and I have also enjoyed watching the growth of Akiva and Rochelle as they experience some of the things those of us with kids have experienced. I have forged strong friendships. I have built on existing ones. I have lost some as well. The fact that I have a wonderful friend in Mr Josh Haley is a true blessing and a gift that lasts longer than one day. He truly is the Yang... more... - Johnny Worthington

"While most actresses her age are calling their surgeons, Sigourney Weaver is top of the bill again in sci-fi spectacular Avatar without a nip or tuck in sight. Her secret? A bit of light gardening at the weekends... It should have been every actress's dream: jetting off to the wilds of New Zealand with James Cameron to film what is being described as the most expensive movie ever made. For Sigourney Weaver, however, taking part in the sci-fi movie Avatar presented a rather more mundane dilemma - what to do about her teenage daughter, Charlotte. 'She was applying to colleges at the time, and leaving almost killed me,' she says. 'I was a b****, because I made her do all the essays and applications before I left. I made her life miserable. It's tough being away; it never gets easier.'" - RAPatton from Bookmarklet
"'When I asked my mother if I should become an actor, she said, "No dear, they will eat you alive." I don't think she meant to be critical. I think that was just her way of making sure I didn't get a big head - that's a very English thing. 'I actually dreamed of being a stage actress like her - doing Shakespeare - I never imagined myself in movies.' And while some actresses complain about the lack of roles for women of a certain age, Sigourney continues to be in demand. " - RAPatton

While both are great movies, 300 would be my favorite over Iron Man. So much over the top action and blood! - Mathew™ one of a kind
Iron Man wins easily for me in this one. I don't have much love for 300. - Jason Toney
Iron Man - RAPatton from iPhone
300. I have much love. - Archangel ωαřмaiden
300 for its superior story - Mitch
300 - Beau Liening
Iron Man, although I will watch 300 when I want to see hot, ripped muscles. - Derrick
Iron Man - Harold
They're both kinda shallow action flicks, so it's shallow and drop-dead gorgeous vs. shallow and hella fun. - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
I watched Iron Man last night and I was excited as I was when I saw it in the theater. - Derrick
Derrick, I hope your copy of 300 is blu-ray. :) - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Jandy, I think I got 300 for free when I bought my PS3. :) - Derrick
Nice. I'm pretty sure blu-ray was invented for films like 300. - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Iron Man for the special effects - Davis Freeberg
Iron Man, 300 bores me, I prefer movies leave me wanting more so 300 while it's story was great is too complete. Iron Man& The Incredible Hulk left me wanting to see Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America, and The Avengers. - Jimminy Fuller
I hope 300 is complete, because there is nothing that can come after it. You can't have 301 or 600 or anything like that. - Mathew™ one of a kind
Iron Man. - Derek Coward
Mathew, I understand that, but there are ways that films can leave you wanting more of the story by leaving a bit off, but 300 didn't have much choose in leaving a little bit open even just to mentally imagine where the story could lead, which is one of the things that I love about a truly great story, it can leave you wanting and the continuation never has to come. - Jimminy Fuller
IRON MAN. - Steven Perez
I wanna say that I coulda swore I saw something recently about Miller writing a prequel to 300 and Snyder already has dibs on the film rights. - Derrick
You did. - Derek Coward
I saw that, too. Then again, I'm still waiting for Miller to write that awesomely bad Batman/Osama bin Laden crossover. - Steven Perez from IM
Personally I want the story to be complete, but to each their own. - Mathew™ one of a kind
I haven't seen Iron Man yet, but I thought 300 was a really good movie. I am a big fan of the visual themes in Frank Miller's movies. - Curtiss Grymala
I hate being led on by Hollywood and their incessant need to not complete a story. Especially something genre-y, or from comic books. Only made worse when the initial film tanks, and there is no sequel, and it feels even more incomplete as a movie. But that's the movie business for you. - Derrick
Mathew - you and my wife would get along great. She gets seriously upset every time she watches a movie that doesn't have an ending. I've got so used to it, it doesn't bother me anymore. - Curtiss Grymala
while 300 was very very good. Iron Man wins for me too. - Joe Pierce
Iron Man, though I have friends in '300'... Robert Downey, Jr. can act, man. - T. Brent, technopeasant
I meant incomplete as so far as the story could continue even if the film's story is complete. Think about The Lord of the Rings, there is a life for the characters after the main arc is over, the characters could actually go on to have adventures together or by themselves. It provides room for your imagination. 300's ending just leaves the 3033 charging off to another battle where most... more... - Jimminy Fuller
There's a difference between ending a movie with a setup for a sequel and leaving a movie open-ended. One is a blatant setup for studios to cash in, the other is trusting the audience to either imagine further stories or interpret the ending as they see fit. That's what Jimminy's talking about, I think. Most of my favorite movies are open-ended to some degree - I dislike it when the filmmakers feel like they need to connect all the dots and tie off every conceivable loose end for me. - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Thanks, Jandy. I think you expressed my point much more succinctly than I myself did. - Jimminy Fuller
Iron Man for me. I would say it's the best superhero movie I've seen so far. Looking forward to the sequel. - Kol Tregaskes
Iron Man. Because 300 was approximately how many IQ points I lost watching that tripe. - Mark H
Iron Man, hands down. I do not like Frank Miller's writing at all, and while 300 was pretty, it was insanely dumb. Iron Man, on the other hand, didn't try to be more than it was, and certainly had better writing throughout. But that's just my two cents. :P - Jon, the Chilled Beartato
Jon: at the risk of being 'too' topical, what did you think of Sin City? - T. Brent, technopeasant
Dreihundert. - Parth Awasthi
T, I found Sin City to be less obnoxious and better written...although at times over-written. - Jon, the Chilled Beartato
"...and these mitts." - T. Brent, technopeasant
But I would have to say that 300 looks far prettier and much sexier than Iron Man. :P - Jon, the Chilled Beartato
300 for me. It was just so different from everything before. - Alex Scrivener
300, definitely. Iron Man was really good, but 300 is easily better in every way. - Jason Huebel
300 even gave the straight boys #instaboners. I still say Iron Man is the more complete movie. - Derrick
Actually, 300 made me laugh, in a way I usually do when being presented with someone else's repressed gay fantasies. (The Spartans *didn't* practice pedastry? Really?) - Steven Perez from IM
I laughed some during 300 as well. But I laugh a lot at over the top movies, because the overthetopness is just so crazy and fun. Especially Crank. - Mathew™ one of a kind from iPhone

Watched "Go" for the first time in nearly 10 yrs. It's as funny as I remembered. When the Manny character is high and thinks the cat is reading his mind at Todd's apartment -- good stuff. I'd forgotten Timothy (Deadwood) Olyphant was the drug dealer. Moved up my #flickchart a bit as a result of the rewatch. - cdogzilla from Bookmarklet

I gotta go with Clerks as it accurately describes an 8 year period of my life. - Rob Haas
Clerks, absolutely. - Nathan Chase
"Clerks" is a clever little movie. "Kill Bill" is a huge genera geekgasm. - Christopher A Carr

BOURNE. - Steven Perez
Casino Royale, by a hair. - Christopher A Carr
Bourne. <3 - Colette
Bourne was great, but CR was a helluva reboot. Plus it has that scene where he emerges from the water....hmmm. - Derrick
Bourne, just barely. - cdogzilla
Casino Royale. - Parth Awasthi
Bourne. Though if Casino was the first James Bond with Daniel Craig then it's the best James Bond so far. - Kol Tregaskes
Bourne by a country mile. Casino Royale took that Bond spirit, jumped up and down on it, kicked it in the crotch, and then made a Bourne film anyway. - Mark H
That Bond "spirit" needed a crotch-kicking. - Christopher A Carr

ET wins hands down - Jesse Stay
Why would you go and ask me something like that, Flickchart? - Kevin Fox
*whispers* I've never seen E.T. - Derrick
ET is a classic, but I really liked Wall-E. - Will Higgins™
Wall•E. - Akiva Moskovitz
I'll repeat mine here. ET. I hated Wall-E - Alan Simpson
Haha... wow. I'd stick with E.T. - Spielberg's great... Knows how to craft a film. Wall-E was good, but can't touch the family dynamic, feeling of empathy for the characters, John Williams's score, and beautiful special effects. - Nathan Chase
