I found out this morning that Feeddemon is no longer controlled by Newsgator and is once again fully under Nick Bradbury's control for development. See his interview here: http://www.shootingatbubbles.com/index...

I think I did some work on Freeservers.com (in HTML) using Homesite (I was on the early team with them). I also worked on tupperware.com's site in Homesite.
- Jesse Stay
I loved HomeSite. I remember I used a very flimsy excuse to get work to pay for it. Yay for supervisors who don't understand how much one can do with good old simple Notepad. :D
- pea
I used to use Homesite a very long time ago.
- Joey Gibson
Man, I spent what felt like years in HomeSite long ago. It was definitely the best of its kind during its day.
- Akiva Moskovitz
Damn, Homesite was my fav editor on the PC back in the day. Sad to see it's gone.

Great RSS reader, use it for quite a while now, haven't found a better one yet. Works togheter with NewsGator to keep your RSS feeds in sync. Great if you also use the mobile version. It has lots of features and a nice notification. The new beta also has tagging support.
- Michael
for which reasons do you want to use a desktop client? If you use an online reader, you should allways be able to access it, don't you? Doesn't a desktop client take up space on your HD (not much, granted, but still)?
- Xavier Bartholome
I rarely use the desktop client. It's good for when I am on planes.

indeed! I forgot about that one place where you (still) don't have access to the web! ;o)
- Xavier Bartholome
That's for now. Wifi on planes is a game changer. There are lots of features I love in Google Reader. If someone adds a great iPhone client Ic an be back.

Another advantage of a desktop client is the ability to let it save post indefinitely.
- Amit Morson
What mobile are you using? If it's iPhone, Byline is an excellent offline reader that syncs with Google Reader. It has support for landscape, noting items, disabling picture downloads, and more. been very happy with it.

I love Google Reader, just wish the apps for it on Android were more "robust"

Gears is also an option for offline gReader. The bonus is that you get to use the same great UI both online and off.

With the most recent beta of FeedDemon synching with Google Reader it is easy to get the best of both worlds (Google Reader online + Offline desktop reader). I have found Newsgator's online service to be slow and feature poor. The Newsgator Go client for BB is very nice, though it dos not work offline.
- Sean Brady
I've just done the opposite, switched from NewsGator/FeedDemon/NetNewsWire to Google Reader - ever since the last release of Feeds for iphone. That was always the missing link for me, having a decent app that synced on the iphone to my online Mac/PC feeds. The Google Reader web page on iPhone whilst good, is no match for a proper application. On my PC/Macs though Google reader in browser is perfect for me.

Nick Bradbury has created the most useful tool I have ever used on the internet in FeedDemon. It will CHANGE your life http://www.bradsoft.com/feeddem...
Very keen to hear how this goes- could solve several issues for MPOW
- suelibrarian
Google Reader & Feeddemon are so far a pretty impressive combination. I'm not a huge fan of G reader but like the web-sync when on the road. I tried FD a few years back and loved it, but couldn't give up the web reader. ... I also wanted the shared items feature of G Reader without having to use it. ... Headaches solved, at least so far!
- Steve Matthews
Wow. He basically republishes parts of your post with nonsensical and unenlightening snide comments in between. If he had a point to make, he failed wonderfully.
- Jack (a.k.a. Jeber)
Advertising is about a lot more than direct marketing (i.e., ad clickthrough to sale). There is also brand awareness which has never been well-quantified but has real (indirect) effects on sales. A lot of "social media" is advertising and PR, whether pumping new startups or just sharing recommendations about products -- it's just not so easy to distinguish anymore.
- Sprague D
The part a lot of people miss is users don't get onto social media sites to have products and crap shoved in their faces. They get onto Facebook to connect to PEOPLE, not shampoo. They don't get a Friendfeed account so they have Yet Another Way to hear about Pepsi. They don't use Twitter because they aren't getting enough advertising and product puked into their faces via TV, Radio, online ads, and on and on. It's SOCIAL media. Let's not forget -that-.
