Is this why they have so much trouble mating? They're too busy laughing and going 'you're a fuckin dork' to their prospective mates ...

Yep. Piece of video from AMERICA'S FUNNIEST HOME VIDEO. Don't ask how I know that. I'm still trying to forget that I was watching that show.
- Steven Perez
AFHV? Oh no! That must mean someone hits the panda in the groin, I don't want to see that video.

Can I ask my fellow bloggers whether there is some SEO value to having my blog on my main index page of my domain eg www.mydomain.com, OR as a page off the index eg www.mydomain.com/blog ? Appreciate any thoughts?
Thanks Andy. I did watch it and got a lot of good stuff from the vid, though I didn't catch the answer to my question in it, but appreciate you think the latter is better.
- Steve Mitchell
I also have the same question as Steve Mitchell, as I've also seen people use www.blog.mydomain.com as well as www.mydomain/blog or just have the blog page as www.mydomain.com. Also, does anyone have an opinion on whether to put the main blog column to the left, right, or in the center of the other two columns (in a 3-column, customized WP blog)? Are there studies showing which users prefer, or where their eyes tend to look first? I would be putting rollover tabs for my company pages on top, under banner.
- Cathryn Hrudicka
from what I can tell domain.com/blog is better than blog.domain.com as it passes on the Google Juice from your domain to your blog and from your blog to your domain. In terms of whether you want to have it on your .com or .com/blog I generally would advise .com/blog if you think there is ANY chance of you developing some other aspect of your site later on. For example if you were going to add forums, a social network, shop etc - to have them all on /blog or /forum etc means you have .com free as aportal pg

I loved this video! I am in the middle of having our web site redesigned to a WP platform by iBusinessLogic/AllBusinessAuctions CEO Scott Pooler, he recommended I do this and have started a free version to test it out, WOW the results have been unbelievable! Along with Scott, these forums, and blogs about blogging has been a tremendous help! http://thefencepost.wordpress.com

SEO is over rated! do www.mydomain.com/blog/ Latter you can add different section to the www.mydomain.com You can make static pages! No need to do it all with WP! You may want to code some PHP/MySQL original stuff, not just BlogHive!
- Igor The Troll יִצְחָק
"Later you can add a different section"? "You can make static pages"? You can already do this with WP, and it keeps everything nice and tidy for when it comes time to update the site or add/change information. I've built very many sites, large and small, using WP as the sole content management system. Some of these sites don't even look like blogs in any way. Sorry, I'm an avid fan of keeping things simple... and WP lets you do that.

"By forging a partnership with Disqus, FriendFeed users could comment on FriendFeed items, and have comments also post to the originating blog, just as other services, including Fav.or.it and Plaxo have implemented. Combined with the recent introduction of video comments from Seesmic, and the above conversation with SezWho, you can see Disqus' strategy develop, to be open to partnerships of all kinds, establishing their service as one of the most versatile, almost default, in the nascent comment replacement market."
- Louis Gray
this would make disqus an invaluable partner for bloggers worried about or interested in retaining relevance in the conversation, regardless of where it takes place.

conversation doesn't belong to content generator

it doesn't belong to the content generator but i'm sure they want to stay relevant to the conversation and this would help them do so without chasing it down across the internet
- Morgan

a lot of times the conversationm isn't even relevant to the original post though

Disqus is really shaping up lately. New API that doesn't use Javascript (I am 99% sure it doesn't) to display comments coming out soon which will allow you to still get the SEO back on your comments. With FriendFeed integration, Disqus will be huge
- Bartek Ciszkowski
i think including images in posting on FF really increases traffic
- Tyler Gillies
Daniel Ha confirmed that "two way" integration with FriendFeed was coming in a reply to a comment I left on the Disqus blog about a month ago - see the bottom of http://blog.disqus.net/2008... . When this feature appears, it will mean that if I reply to a comment on FriendFeed for a blog which supports Disqus, it will show up back on the originating blog too - that's a massive step forward.
- Ian Betteridge
"conversation doesn't belong to content generator." No, but doesn't the content generator have a right to be part of the ongoing conversation? And this feature facilitates that.
- Ian Betteridge
Disqus integrating with FriendFeed would be nice, but if they had a "complete" API, then anyone can get into the game. Their API is really close to feature complete, they only need a few more tweaks.

I kinda like Bookshare and the Flixter app has been of some use as well
- Deepak Singh
Visual Bookshelf can be useful - add books you own or want to read, and it'll notify you of other Facebook users posting reviews of them.

Friendfeed, Flickr, TwitterSynch, Skype, Spock, Business Cards, Gaping Void, LinkedIn Contacts, MyLinkedIn Profile, Professional Profile, As seen on, Paneras near me, Starbucks near me, Upcoming, Digsby Widget (chat), Rock your Firefox - my favs.

Yes. Actually useful stuff in the area of dating, music sharing, and photo sharing (flickr/picasaweb). With that said, I've found 99% of the apps to be junk and wish I had a shortcut key to Block Application.
- Adam Lasnik
Seems like the only useful things on facebook are the interfaces to apps outside of the walled-garden
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
i like the friend wheel app as it is so shiny and colourful but yes, many apps are workind with outside data / services klike the ff app.
- Nicole Simon
check back tomorrow on RWW for a big post on this :) And THANKS!!
- Sarah Perez
Chiming in way late: Stitchbook was good pre-Ravelry, but the hunger site app is the only one still really useful to me (previously I would click several times a day not sure if I had clicked it before or not, which is a waste of time).
- Alix Whitmire
Take a look at http://apprate.com It's a site I was editing (and writing a number of reviews for) as part of my internship last summer. As part of that process I installed, tested, analyzed the hell out of, and reviewed dozens of Apps, and believe it or not there are some good ones.

Facebook? What's a facebook? I dimly remember something people used to call Facebook from the way back a long time ago.
- Thomas Hawk
...after hearing all the hub-bub and how it was "the thing" to do, I create a profile a few months ago. All I have ever really done with it is play Scrabulous and keep in touch with one or two people.
- JA Castillo
College kid to the rescue ;) There's one called Weekly Schedule that I really like. If everyone used it, you'd know when they all had class or work. You'd also know who all was in a particular class - helpful if you have a sick day and need notes! Other than that, ehhhh... not much going on in the way of useful apps.
- Shawn Farner
The iPhone interface. Facebook is my address book with a little bit of peanut gallery thrown in for good measure.
- Eric Rice
I find the Google Calendar/Facebook even integration kinda handy, but I usually just have greasemonkey set up to removed all the crap from peoples profiles before I view them...
- Fearghas
I still like Twitter. I think it and FriendFeed serve different purposes. Not sure where exactly to draw the line, though.
- ha3rvey (chee-la-key-les)
I'll take an ugly (but functional) FriendFeed over a broken Twitter
- Aaron B. Hockley
I just wish that Twitter would at least give us the impression they're trying to fix things. I still don't think FF can replace a Twitter-like service, there's too much going on info-wise to keep up with the updates. Unless they used all that nice empty space over there on the right side to house short updates and direct messages...
- Shawn Farner
I don't know why they won't tell us what's going on. So frustrating
- Bwana ☠
@Bwana: I think it's simply that they don't want to admit the entire infrastructure they are built on is crap. That's just be guessing, though. Maybe they DO just like the publicity...or both.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
I like both. But I usually go here if Twitter is down again.
- Rosana Kooymans
If Twitter does not resolve the scalability issue FF is going to replace it. Fast.
- israel
If there were an earthquake in SF, Twitter would probably go down then, too. Right now, no eqrthquake here, so what's Twitter's excuse today? ;-)
- Cathryn Hrudicka
They should atleast put a note on blog.twitter.com (it seems to be running on blogger.com) to let people know it is down.
- Atul Arora
friendfeed should buy twitter show them uptime :)

FriendFeed would take over. So would Jaiku and Pownce.
- Robert Scoble
It's probably due to the heat. It's so damn hot in the bay area today :( Milk would be a bad choice.
- Adam
I would agree with Scoble. But if Twitter is becoming so critical, why not put servers on the East Coast and In AZ just to cover all bases?
- Mike Wills
@scoble Hey what happened to Jaiku? Didnt Google buy them? I never hear anyone mention it. I get adds on other sites but not Jaiku.
- Dave Peck
I checked it and all signs point to Yes. :)
- Morton Fox
So why aren't people moving to Pownce?
- Garrido
from twhirl
They probably are...The twitter faithful scatter when it goes down. Some go to Pownce, some go to Jaiku, some come here, some catch up on email or RSS... it varies.
- Bwana ☠
They confirmed it on their mailing list - today's and yesterdays outages are due to caching issues
