FRIENDFEED ALTERT! THIS THING IS AWESOME!!! http://www.peoplebrowsr.com Watch the video, then try it out. I am already hooked. Competes with TweetDeck. Wonder what you think. - Robert Scoble
Adds groups to Twitter. Plus much better cross-social-network contact management. Plus more. - Robert Scoble
haha...i was thinking "don't share your password with the world!!" :) - Zee.
Why am I not seeing a button for Friendfeed at the top? - Mitch
Lol friend feed alert - where is the flashy lights and whooping sound? :-) - dan
eh - you have to log in, they want your id and password for your accounts skip and punt - dan
Checking it out now...thanks Robert... if you're hooked, I will be too! LOL Yeah, Contact Mgmt!! - Susan Beebe (Santa Claus)
If it had friendfeed as well I'd be in. - Nation Hahn
1st impressions were "far too messy", but i think that's mainly the text. After watching on and trying it out - it's actually pretty impressive. Love the sharing of groups - Zee.
Look Robert, it loaded that much pics! http://friendfeed.com/e/5e4275... - directeur
*hesitantly enters password* I'm trusting you here Robert :) - Mo Kargas
It would be FAR better if it was an AIR client - Dennis Howlett
Mo: Jodee is a standup guy. He'll be here soon to answer questions. Directeur: it's an operating system for your social network. :-) - Robert Scoble
Robert - this looks EXACTLY like what we talked about a few months back when you and I met up with Tim and Brian to talk about mioNews. Pretty cool, just wish it worked in Safari :P - Patrick Lightbody
Dennis, it would be FAR^34 better if it was a "normal" desktop app - directeur
Dennis: gotta start somewhere. They respond to feature requests VERY fast. Patrick, yeah, very similar to what we were talking about, isn't it? A lot of what I asked Jodee for showed up here. Lots of little touches. - Robert Scoble
top notch stuff. Unfortunately I have to agree with Dennis re: AIR client. Even so, a remarkable interface. - phil baumann
I'm just hoping it withstands the load. - Robert Scoble
At first pass, the interface seems pretty weak. Slow, kludgy. - Aldon Hynes
OK, after the obligatory 30 second look, my findings are: this thing is buggy. I can't really talk - I'm sure many of my projects give that same first impression! - Patrick Lightbody
Aldon: yeah, it's slowing down already on my system. It's doing a LOT of work behind scenes. - Robert Scoble
It's a little slow from here in Aus, I assume it's just my connection or Scoble-effect load. Interface is very nice - Mo Kargas
I've been resisting such services, but this one seems really friggin' cool. - rambn
Mo: I think it's the Scoble effect. It loaded fine for me 30 minutes ago, now it's crawling. - Robert Scoble
I have no idea how to sign in to this crap. I think it's cuz I'm too busy watching Criminal minds...LOL - ♫ Rahsheen™
Blame Scoble - it's sloooow as molasses! LOL :) - Susan Beebe (Santa Claus)
Rahsheen: I love Criminal Minds. I clicked on the Twitter icon, signed in with my Twitter name and password. - Robert Scoble
Slow... - David
yeah, pretty slow.. idea looks good tho - Bruno Panara
Just a reminder, they are calling this an "Alpha." - Robert Scoble
Rahsheen - click the twitter icon in the center to get started... then you'll see - Susan Beebe (Santa Claus)
This app looks really great, thanks for sharing Robert! - Susan Beebe (Santa Claus)
definitely on the blink...but that's to be expected - Zee.
Great video, love the idea. I will try again in a couple of weeks when the site can handle the traffic. Great alpha though, this site certainly shows promise. - Bob Blunk
Glubbish - Bob Robot
Robert you've GOT to stop doing this, it's 3:32 in the morning here and I actually unpacked my MBA to check this out now...lol - Gaby Benkwitz ☼
Made it to email confirmation screen. Now seeing the main screen. - David
Bob Blunk: yeah, I will back off of hyping it for now cause it can't deal with the extra traffic. Very slow here. I'll get Jodee to show up here as well. Probably shouldn't have launched the day before Thanksgiving. - Robert Scoble
looks promising...i'll have to check back later when everyone and their dog aren't trying to get on... - Trent Olson
If there's one feature I would like Twitter (or third-party) to have, it would be the abiity to see which tweet you sent that someone is replying to. I had someone reply to me about something I said a week ago. I did not remember what tweet she was replying to. - David
Scoble: ya, probably should have launched ON Thanksgiving. We would all be too full of turkey and dressing to lift our fingers and navigate to the site. - Bob Blunk
Guy Kawasaki told me this afternoon that he would rather have his Twitter account than his cell phone (and is betting Mike Arrington $1,000 that he can do without his cell phone for a week to back it up). Now you see why. No blog required. Oh, and this will never even get on TechMeme because it's too lame to look at hot FriendFeed items for tech news. - Robert Scoble
I think we broke it. - Jim Williams
Jim: I'm going to upload my Broadcom videos. Maybe that'll help it regain some footing. :-) - Robert Scoble
What day do you think is best to launch a software product? Aside from yesterday, of course... - Prolific Programmer
Hello! Thanks Robert for this post. Thanks everybody for using PeopleBrowsr. We are delighted to have you all on board and we must confess that we were not expecting all this traffic today. We know what is slowing down the system and we are working to fix it. Thanks for your patience. The correct link to PeopleBrowsr is www.peoplebrowsr.com. The PeopleBrowsr Team. - SHHHE
Hiya, SHHHE. Is there a such thing as a Scoble Effect already? You know, similar to being SlashDotted? - MiɳiMagɘ (AlwaysMiniMage)
Scobleized? - ♫ Rahsheen™
home page does not load. Scobleized™ - Karim
SHHHE (Priscilla) - Love your PeopleBrowsr app ... nice job!! :) YES there is definitely a "Scoble Effect" and this is NOT the first time! LOL - Susan Beebe (Santa Claus)
Karim: Blame Scoble™ - Robert Scoble
Good joß! Especially i liked the interface a lot - Ugur Aydogdu (videlicet)
Video is good. Thanks, Robert. - David
doesn't work for me, even "obama" search.. - Justinas Šaltys
If you like this video you should watch the one with Matt Mullenweg at http://www.fastcompany.tv -- first part is up and he was awesome. Talked about the future of blogging (he is the guy who did Wordpress). - Robert Scoble
They just wrote me and said that they won't do a beta launch until next week and are working on some performance issues (obviously). So, this is a cool very early sneak peak. See you next week when they push out a new code base. - Robert Scoble
We'll be waitin' for good news :) - Ugur Aydogdu (videlicet)
Hey, just noticed that they have a Facebook app for PeopleBrowsr too! http://www.facebook.com/apps/a... - Susan Beebe (Santa Claus)
Hi again. We just fixed the performance bug and the system should be faster now. Thanks again for your support, Everyone. - SHHHE
Oooh, shiny. - Chris Charabaruk
Ehi Everyone. Our Facebook App has not being released yet. Wip: will keep you all posted. - SHHHE
Connection to YouTube is insecure. YT whines about it, but lets it go through if you allow it. Still, c'mon, if there's a secure way to do it, as YT suggests, why not do it that way? ... Also, Upcoming support doesn't seem to work. Won't link up with my user name, nor the ID number. - Chris Charabaruk
Chris, very good point about the YouTube connection. It's something we are working on and it will be released next week. - SHHHE
@SHHHE Good, sooner the better. Likewise, whatever's got Upcoming all bugged out. I'd complain about the slow speed too, but given what I'm using it's 70% likely to be this computer that's causing it to be slow for me. - Chris Charabaruk
Looks like crap on IE. - Paul Whitaker
PeopleBrowsr has been built to be used on FF3 and Safari 3.1 and it needs broadband. - SHHHE
IE is crap! - Prolific Programmer
Not the best of choices. After all, IE is still tops for browsers, whether we like it or not. - Chris Charabaruk
Not according to my analytics...LOL - ♫ Rahsheen™
At last a web app that actually likes Safari. Ha! - Tom Landini
@Rahsheen Unfortunately, there are more mouth-breathing IE users than intelligent folks like us. I'd like to change that, but I can't think of any legal ways of going about and doing so... :p - Chris Charabaruk
Thanx Scoble...I'm curious, why did you choose Kyte instead of qik? - Anthony Farrior
Anthony: Kyte lets me record on a FlipCam and upload later (I can use cell phone, webcam, FlipCam, our HD cams, etc, Qik only lets me use cell phone). Also Kyte has better distribution/better player. Also Kyte has a better chat room. - Robert Scoble
I've been using this for a couple of hours and stumbled on some very useful features. A few seconds ago I finished watching your video, and I'm blow away by the potential of this app. It reminds me of a semantic Firefox addon called Headup, that has been inserted into a browser and spiced up with added communication features. Time to put this to use. Thanks again Robert! - Michael Fidler
hi robert, twitter had some database problems a while ago. What is the effect of peoplebrowsr on the loadavg of the twitter databases? I guess peoplebrowsr is going to increase server requests dramaticly. - Corné Wielemaker
Is it working? (not for me anyway, though it looks very interesting - Orli Yakuel
Orli, it's working now :) - SHHHE
Still not working. Is it crushing just for me? :-\ - Orli Yakuel
looks interesting, although what I dream of is contact synchronisation protocols - Joelle Nebbe
Orli, it might be the browser you're using. I've just had to update Safari to the latest version. Gonna install and try again. - Nicola Quinn
Thanx Robert for the feedback. Kyte seems to understand how to edge itself out of the mobile video pack...Peoplebrowsr is cool, but I still need a reason to leave the friendfeed page. These apps are just trees whereas FF gives me the whole forest, imho - Anthony Farrior
I am all about the Real-Time FriendFeed sidebar in Firefox. http://bit.ly/mZLT Always open so I can see what's going on in FriendFeed while I use Google Reader and browse. All I need now is full Twitter integration (see my follows) in FriendFeed and an import box at the bottom of this sidebar and I'll be set. - Rolf Schewe
I just can't believe it, I remember from where I know this guy! He was hunting just about everyone in TC50 to give him the red chip! (I didn't even know it's worth it, heh!) - Orli Yakuel
Rolf: thanks for that link. Too bad you can't do sidebars in Safari. That might just be enough to bring me back to Firefox... - Costa Walcott
Indeed very cool, I just get Invalid Source when linking my Facebook account. :) - Daniel W. Crompton

The difference is that Google keeps their products around, Yahoo axes them shortly after releasing them in most cases. I don't even know why they bother anymore. - Javier Altman
I can't remember the last time I used a Yahoo service really. - Bhavishya Kanjhan
Google has kept its focus on developing the coolest cutting-edge Internet software possible. Yahoo got distracted by some Old Media people, and, in some respects, tried to become a traditional mainstream media company. Brin and Page exercised better judgment than Yang and Filo. Perhaps they are simply smarter. - Sean McBride
@Bhavishya Kanjhan - Flickr?? - thomasrdotorg
Yahoo! brings cool stuff too, eg: searchmonkey, pipes, open strategy. But somehow it's not as viral as when it comes from Google. I love Yahoo!. Hopefully they won't disappear anytime soon. Come on Yahoo! Let's grow in Asia. - Akhmad Fathonih
They havent done anything useful with Flickr & delicious! Meanwhile google has innovated with picasa with facial recognition & integration with contacts. Yahoo has all the components, its about tying them together and coming out with useful services. Unfortunately either they dont know how to do it or dont have the back bone to execute on it. Yahoo shows flashes of brilliance but thats where it ends.. Case in point fire eagle. Might as well acquire Brightkite! Yahoo get back innovating! - Arjun Ram
I love that in the announcement, he said that they're the world leader technology and product... have they heard of Google? - Simon T Small
The only Yahoo service I use? Flickr. And that's a old product. - Leon Ho
an oldy but a goody - Simon T Small
there is delicious of course...flickr like leon said...pipes is pretty damn cool. They're huge in China i believe...i reckon they'll come back. - Zee.
Google brings cool products - Yes. Yahoo for me as bought in some cool products like Flickr and Delicious which I love. - Tejas Patel
Brin and Page have a grand vision of how to best organize all the information in the world. They see how all the pieces fit together. I'm not sure Yang and Filo ever quite reached that level of consciousness. Google has unlimited potential if they stay on track -- they've barely scratched the surface of what is possible. - Sean McBride
Well said, Sean. - Steve Isaacs
I give Yahoo money for Flickr and fantasy sports. I have yet to give Google a cent but use all their services. I know it's different for businesses. - Andrew Smith
yea, they have a very clear vision, to digitize and make available all the information in the world... and credit to them, they've stayed on track! Yahoo!? just trying to sell advertising. - Simon T Small
Although I have an affection for how Flickr has aged, ie. fairly well, I'm also getting tired of the many lil' pesky UI gaffes and the chug. Gotta treat a lady right, Yahoo. - Marko Bon
Yahoo voice chat was the awesomest thing I had ever used in the world as far as social interaction at one point in time. Yahoo chat period was awesome. Sure, there was IRC, but this was different. Now, it's like Yahoo has let all those services, even the newer video stuff, get overrun by....crazies - ♫ Rahsheen™
I don't know, they may end up naming a cool new CEO shortly :-) - Duncan Riley
Google does nothing but KILL cool things. Their search engine is great. Earth and Maps are good, everything else? Meh. I wish Yahoo would have kept Live! going. It was a really nice and robust personal broadcast service. Their MyYahoo page is pretty nice too and so many people still use Yahoo! Groups. And lets not forget they own Flickr and Delicious. - Adam Turetzky
Adam - you didn't mention Google Reader, Gmail, Google Docs, Google News, Google Blog Search, Google Book Search and Google Voice Local Search, all of which I use heavily. I practically live out of Google Reader. - Sean McBride
Yahoo Messenger, Yahoo News, Yahoo Pipes, YUI, MyBlogLog, Flickr, Yahoo Finance.... yeah, if Yahoo were to disappear tomorrow, I'd definitely notice. BrowserPlus was just released and it was covered. Yahoo is much bigger than the drama we make about them. - Bwana
I have to say, though, I am hoping Yahoo can pull through this current slump. I am a big believer in what they are doing with Y!OS. - John McCrea
Agreed, its just relative to Google. - Simon T Small
YUI is really the only innovative thing I've seen in quite some time. - Hal via twhirl
My favorite source for good product info used to be a Yahoo Labs search engine (Mindset). They axed it about a year ago though, sadly. - Dan Byler
I think Yahoo Pipes is pretty innovative, not sure how many use it though. I can't even scratch the surface of all the features - Rick Bucich via twhirl
Yahoo Buzz is nicely done - Michael McGimpsey via twhirl
Yahoo seems to be good at wringing out their CEOs. - Cathleen Rittereiser
I use Yahoo Fantasy Sports. That's about it though. I suspect it's the same for many others. - Nathan Johns
Jerry's done inovating. I think that portion of our brain fossilizes at a certain point. He'll probably be better off, and weathier in the end - but would have done much better to have realized it 8 months ago. - Hal via twhirl
no way! yahoo location database api, yahoo query language, search monkey, semantic indexing, have you seen the stuff mybloglog is still coming up with? wordpress recommendation widget, blogjuice reader demographics. i think yahoo comes out with more cool stuff than google by a long shot - Marshall Kirkpatrick
Yahoo was my default e-mail and messenger client... untill Gmail and Gtalk happened... Love Google, - Devakishor
Yeah not sure how Google can pump up innovation so quickly! - Alvin
We had something unusual go out today; oh, wait, that was the CEO.... - Glen Campbell
Did Google learn from Yahoo's mistakes? Or did the just got so big and so diversified that a (potential) fall from grace will be even worse? - Sofia Gkiousou
"Yahoo! brings cool stuff too, eg: searchmonkey, pipes, open strategy. But somehow it's not as viral as when it comes from Google." Akhmad, not sure about that -- do more people know about the Google Mashup Editor than about Yahoo Pipes? - Philipp Lenssen
"The difference is that Google keeps their products around, Yahoo axes them shortly after releasing them in most cases." What do you make of Yahoo Answers vs Google Answers then? Google Answers was deserted by Google and then stopped, whereas Yahoo Answers had promotions with people like Oprah Winfrey or Stephen Hawking asking questions. - Philipp Lenssen
hey guys, why don't you try yahoo services ? http://developer.yahoo.com/eve... - TiTi
Google develop with the user in mind and take on board and incorporate the users feedback. Can't think of a "net" life without the big G now. - Rob Brammeld

there's also AppZapper, and Hazel has this built in as well as file organization tools - http://www.noodlesoft.com/haze... - Michael J. Cohen (mjc)
I kind of subscribe to the "do one thing and do it well" philosophy. That holds true in software, too. AppDelete (and probably AppZapper) delete all traces of an app. That's it, nothing else. Hazel has other wizbang features and costs more. - Jason Huebel
hazel's features keep my download folder from being messy - and the deletion portion just reminds you if you want to remove the extra crap when you put an app in the trash. it's much more simplistic than having to remember to drag it to AD or AZ - Michael J. Cohen (mjc)
AppZapper does have a nicer interface overall compared to AppDelete. It's $13 as opposed to AppDelete $5 price tag. - Jason Huebel
I don't really get Apple economy. You pay to delete your own files? :p - Akhmad Fathonih
hey hey :) I can't remember the names but there are definitely progams to completely remove apps from windows too..without leaving a trace... - Zee.
Akhmad, you can delete an app just by dragging it's icon to the trash. But there are data that gets left behind. These app deleter programs take care of that too. Even Windows doesn't delete all traces of an app after it's installed. - Jason Huebel
AppCleaner works great too and is free I believe. - Kamath ॐ
i personally prefer clean app, as it takes care of apps and left over files completely - Cee Bee
In most cases, you don't need an uninstaller. Drag the app to the trash. - flammable
draggin an app to the trash doesn't delete log files and extras that sometimes come with a program - Cee Bee
I use AppZapper .. good utility - James Cooper
I like AppZapper, which works pretty much the same way. - Cecily
If dragging the app to the trash doesn't do it all, then check ~/Library/Application Support/. Preference files aren't really worth deleting. Unless it's Garageband or iDVD, there isn't much in ~/Library/ anyway. - flammable

Lifestreaming is a part of a bigger trend: the death of static web pages. - Robert Scoble
Here's an interesting follow up to this from Tris Hussey I just came across http://www.trishussey.com/2008... - Mark Krynsky
Static web pages may be dying, but lifestreaming must be mined to generate relatively solid and interactive knowledge structures that span the entire Web. Otherwise it's all just babble and baubles. And that is why we need a robust Semantic Web. - Sean McBride
interesting post, but generally speaking (at least with the broader question) I'd say no. I actually think that we're due a backlash soon on putting everything out there. We will eventually get to the Ben Elton novel stage, but in cycles - Duncan Riley
Duncan - have you seen any backlash stories yet? Surely it's just a matter of time - Edd McArdle via twhirl
Really Duncan? Can you elaborate? I thought embarassing drunk photos on MySpace was about the worst backlash possible. I actually like this new era of transparency. - Mark Krynsky
Thanks for all the likes folks...but not many really feel like adding to the campfire eh? - Mark Krynsky
Not if all the services disappear. We'll all be updating our .plan files again. - l0ckergn0me
yes lifestreaming is the beginning of the next thing online - Mich D
Haha Chris .plan files that's a good one. Guess we'll have to start using Gopher again too. But you bring up a good point. These guys better figure out a monetization strategy soon. Ads or Freemium are fine by me. - Mark Krynsky
Sorry, gotta disagree - we're being blinded by the bleeding edge here. Most people still consume web content through conventional websites, and I suspect that's not going to change anytime soon. - GerryBot
is (mobile) lifestreaming not part of the trend which links online and offline life - jon bradford
I am finding I'm spending more time in places like Friendfeed, and less time actually blogging. As for static web sites - I do have one or two, but I'm moving more and more to blogging. One, even for a web designer, for my own needs (not talking about clients here) a blog is simply easier to set up, and two, it's much easier to update. - Ian May
Duncan, you may be right about public lifestreaming. I'm looking at the top 10 OurDoings users in terms of photos uploaded, and 7 out of 10 use only unlisted URLs. And of the remaining 3, the only one who puts out truly public content is me. - Bruce Lewis via fftogo
About the larger question, I really, really hope lifestreaming grows. I run OurDoings, which is real-life streaming with words and photos (as opposed to an aggregator). I think the biggest photo-sharing sites 5 years from now will be ones that are blog-like. I hope mine is one of them. - Bruce Lewis via fftogo
We we might see is an ability to see individual lives as a pattern and on top of that see societies as a pattern of interacting patterns. - todd
I wouldn't go so far as to call it the 'death' of static web pages. Seeing that a lot of old web things we have pronounced the death sentence on, still exist in one form or the other. - Vijayendra Mohanty
todd, do you think that can happen even if the individual lives we see are a totally non-random sample? - Bruce Lewis via fftogo
possible, since it can lead to more services being created to enhance the lifestream.. and to connect with others' lifestreams...for example, i thought yongfook's sweetcron was a good start for a personal lifestream, but that again's just the tip of the berg and there's scope for plenty more....lifeblob is another service, that allows bridging of different lifestreams... but all this might take quite sometime to become ubiquitous.. by then, we'd be having this discussion about web 4.0 on our lifestreams? :) - manuscrypts
GerryBot, my post was more about how the logic behind Lifestreaming (data aggregation) is playing a role in the next phase of the web. With Mint.com you have a vertical implementation of Lifestreaming with clear benefits added by analyzing the data. As far as users are concerned these _are_ conventional websites. - Mark Krynsky
Hm, interesting Bruce. Is there a bias? How large is the population? And what are the objectives of the study? In my thinking I'm looking to predicatively use similarities so I am not concerned about about making correct inferences outside the population. But as a general ethnographic mechanism it's definitely inadequate. - todd
todd, when you mentioned societies I thought you were talking about nation-scale societies. If you only want to look at online societies the bias problem is a lot smaller. - Bruce Lewis
Bruce, certainly global civilization is the goal as that will give the broadest life examples and the best opportunity to learn from those lives. - todd
@Krynsky Have you noticed that you are far and away the biggest Depeche Mode fan on Agglodex? http://www.agglodex.com/profil... - Jesse Hattabaugh
@Jesse, yea well the last 24 hours saw quite a bit of love for Depeche. Perhaps you need to tweak recency & frequency settings :) btw Agglodex is coming along nicely. - Mark Krynsky
Lifestreaming has become such a popular trend amongst the evolving web. - Amir H.
