eh. You have a baby who's going to be MUCH more grabby soon. I'd wait.

I remember that nose piercing and young toddler frequently in arms was a Very Bad Idea. Lasted 2 weeks max.
- Chelle Chelle Ro Ro
I second LBC. Also, why are you considering this now?
- Katie
(I tend to be meh about earrings anyway, since I have to be careful about nickel, so I can't just walk into a store and pick up cute ones)
- ellbeecee
Because I have this pair of earrings that my friend gave me years ago and I was thinking I should wear them to her memorial service next month? I dunno. I consider it once a decade or so.

Yeah, I'd wait. Can those earrings be converted into a clip-on pair, necklace, or otherwise?
- Rachel Walden
you could look for a conversion kit to make them clip on
- ~Courtney F
I could get them made into screwbacks (or I guess clipons), but I hate screwbacks.

Actually, if I really wanted to combat the grabby baby, I'd cut my hair and get contacts. But I'm not willing to do either of those things.
- laura x
Also, you, have to wear the starter earrings for awhile

Keep in mind that there's always the possibility that you will not like having your ears pierced. I had mine done for a few years as an adolescent, had issues with various metals, grew keloids that had to be removed by a dermatologist, and the holes never really closed or became invisible. As far as the grabby baby goes, for me there would be difference between having hair pulled or glasses pulled off and having my earlobe ripped in two (which happened to my cousin).
- Rachel Walden
(and if you do get them done, go to a real piercer - don't let somebody with a piercing gun do it)
- Rachel Walden
I had ear piercings fail too. (Chicken pox. Don't ask.) If you're only likely to wear the one set of earrings once, I would suggest you convert them to clips.
- RepoRat
If you're only likely to wear them to the memorial service (very good reason), go with the clips. I've got two piercings in each ear and it's taken each of them about 20 years to "stabilize" and not constantly want to close up. I still have some issues with my second holes if I try to put too big of a post or wire through them if I haven't had anything in them for a while.
- Katie
I've worn screwbacks before and they drive me completely batty, so I think either I'll get my ears pierced finally or the earrings in question will sit happily in their box as they have done for the past decade or so, along with all the various other earrings people have given me (most of which, actually, I've passed on to my mother, who had her ears pierced at age 50). I just periodically think I ought to get my ears pierced since people are always giving me earrings.
- laura x
I like wearing earrings. You should check how long the healing time is, before getting it done now and for this particular reason, though. I think it was at least 6-8 weeks where you can only wear starter earrings.
