Until they can each answer the question about what they will do instead of what the other won't do, they are both losers. - Jennifer Marie Sandbank
Agreed. McCain needs to come out stronger than Obama at these things, and he's just not equal to the task. I guess community organizers do know something about selling a concept better than career Senators. - Steven Perez
the problem is mccain needed a tko to help his sagging numbers, and he didn't get it. didn't get close. - Karim

Webkit nightly build, VLC, and Adium. - Mona N.
VLC (video player, plays AVIs and WMVs), HandBrake (DVD ripping), TextWrangler (text editor), Skype, Firefox, InstantShot (screen grabs), iShowU (screen capture video), CyberDuck (FTP), ... etc. - Jason Kaneshiro

Windows Vista. Oh wait.... - qthrul
Zee, would you rather just roll with what a single blog post says, or hear it from the people who use this stuff daily to do much of the same things you will need to do? :) - Rahsheen™

Zee, I've bookmarked several posts. I guess my question was more to the effect of "what software do you recommend that you use on a regular basis" versus software that we've blogged about that we've tried (but perhaps do not use consistently). - Tamar Weinberg

You appear to write blogs, you should check out MarsEdit too. http://www.red-sweater.com/mar... - Adam Turetzky
Transmit, Adium, TextMate, Growl, Quicksilver, iTerm, MacPorts. But it depends on how you use a computer. I'd personally recommend not installing much of anything for a week or two and just learn about what is native to OS X. It's far more capable than a bare Windows install. - ·[▪_▪]·

Fugu for FTP/SSH. And if all you are doing is quickie image editing, Seashore does the job. Open source. You also want NeoOffice. And I vote to leave Growl OFF... I'm still trying to uninstall it. I have much hate for Growl. - Cyndy
@Cyndy all you have to do to remove a preference pane in OS X is control(right)-click on it's icon in System Preferences and a popup will appear under your cursor that says "remove xxxx pane" and that's it. Although I don't know why such hate for growl, it's one of the coolest notifiers. Especially with the iPhonesque but to each their own. :) http://macthemes2.net/forum/vi... - Adam Turetzky
Skitch for image handling, Filezilla for FTP (if you're coming from Windows, you'll feel more comfortable with it). adium if you like IM, Twhirl for Twitter, Firefox for browsing....that should set you up. I'd recommend trying iWork as well instead of Office, nice package. - Duncan Riley
loic le meur had a list a couple of weeks ago on ff ... - Gregory Lent
After a lifetime of Windows I recently switched to an 24 inch iMac. It's like when you were a kid and your mom bought the generic brand fruit loops with the retarded bird on the box because it was cheaper. Then one day she springs for the good stuff, and then there's no turning back. Adium is a great mac only IM client. Try that. - Seamus Condron

“Random question for my FF followers: should I reduce the number of social sites I share here? I'm thinking that Digg/SU are somewhat overwhelming and would rather share only social media thoughts and ideas. Your opinion?”
July 7 at 6:57 am - Link
Your followers, me included, can hide whatever we want from your feed or anyone's feed. So don't worry about it. - Louis Gray
Agree with @Louis. Although, wish FF had a "turn off all (socnet site) from everyone" (ie. Twitter?) - Barbara K. Baker
yea what louis said - Allen Stern
Barbara, it does. Here's a how-to on hiding: http://www.louisgray.com/live/... - Louis Gray
Barbara I think the already exists -- check the details of the hide function - Brian Sullivan
IMO what you share and what people see are going to be different, due to the ability to hide types of entries. My opinion is "share it, let everyone else filter their own view"... the only exception would be for the blog type, since you can't filter one without filtering the rest. - J·Phil·Glockner
thanx @Louis. Learn something new each day @FF. w00t! - Barbara K. Baker
I'm with everyone else: let your subscribers shape the noise. - Akiva Moskovitz
The only place where there is a flaw and being careful of what you include is in a issue is with RSS feeds/blogs where the user can only turn them all off or on - no individual switch currently exists - Brian Sullivan
Depends on what you want your FF conversations to revolve around. If you want to keep your SU/Digg convos siloed @SU and Digg, then it makes sense. - Katina Beckham French
Digg and Reddit feeds just create noise. However they are important to see what interesting stories are out there. Keep them. - MikeonTV
Because we can hide whichever feeds we want, it is not an issue. I say share everything and let your followers filter. - Rob Diana
I don't think you should. You should share everything that you can - and the onus is on us and Friendfeed to filter/cope. I'm against reducing things to the lowest common denominator in most cases! - Andrew Girdwood
Yeah, I'm thinking I'm going to remove my stumble at least. Maybe my delicious too. I hate to see stuff I like come here 3 times over. - Jim Kukral via twhirl

i have reduced a few to reduce the noise, you may want to consider doing the same - jeff selig
I rarely pay attention to anyone's Digg, SU, etc submissions on FF but don't find it distracting when it's there. One thing I've noticed is that since people use some social media sites more for work interests and others more for personal interests, combining them all in FF creates a sort of mixed persona - Adam Sherk
Akiva - that's a great way of putting it. I might quote you. Done. http://flipside.scribkin.com/p... Brian - I just removed my identi.ca feed because it would be categorized under 'blog' and therefore not easily hide-able if people don't like my pointless blathering. - J·Phil·Glockner
