Magazine companies fear Apple at this time. They've seen what has happened with the Music & Movies industries and don't wish to play by Apple's rules and end up stuck in the iTunes store when Apple's rumored tablet finally becomes a reality so they are attempting to counter Apple's move while they still have time. If the interface/usability/responsiveness/functionality of their devices isn't as good as that of Apple's device I wonder if their advance start will help them in any way at all. It might even hurt them to brag about their "best" because Apple can just turn around and "1-up" them & call it a day.
