I think Android-based phones will eventually be the dominate mobile OS. And it's only a matter of time until it rivals the iPhone in aesthetics and functionality.

I agree with you--for now. But I think we'll start to see rapid upwards growth in not only Android OS development but app development as well. We just have to get a few more phones out there. It's UI isn't perfect, but we're already starting to see Android UI's that look iPhone-like. Newer apps will hopefully keep up with the changes.

Not to be a stick in the mud, but the Android had no apps at all in January and Iphone had over 65,000 it is not surprising that the number of new apps are dropping off on the Iphone and growing on Android,

So, iPhone app development has already been out for over a year. Then a new platform is released and everyone starts developing for that. So does anyone know if this chart includes apps already designed for the iPhone and now are being ported over to Android?

Apple is headed down the same path it took in the desktop market. Proprietary and closed is ultimately going to shoot them in the foot. As soon as the hardware becomes a commodity and the "Platonic ideal" for a mobile device is solidified (basically the iPhone form factor and features), Apple is in trouble. Remember Windows was much uglier than Mac OS, but Windows prevailed because it was available for ALL hardware configurations.

My wife is in England, where her iPhone is useless for telephone service, without running up a $4,000 bill. On the other hand, my Android G1 is integrated with most of my other current "tools of my trade", the moment I sign in to my Gmail account, to activate the phone, and Google Voice solves that pesky roaming problem, if I travel.

I agree with Miles. You can't compare Android and the iPhone OS as if they're built from the same baseline. It's natural that Android came out of the gate slower because it wasn't even a commercial product. Apple had 'perfected' the iPhone by launch. But Android will likely reach a critical mass of developers that will help it reach the tipping point of leadership. It's only a matter of time.

Joelle, I think it picks your default feed, but I'm not 100% sure. You get an e-mail back with a confirmation link that you can then approve to go out to your stream.

Does this mean you can now DM any of your subscriptions even if they're not subscribed to you? That's cool. Is there a setting to block people from DMing you if you're not subscribed to them? [Edit - That doesn't seem to be the case, actually. I can still only DM users that are also subscribed to me. So was this just a reminder post or is there something new here?]

Last time I tried attaching a photo in an email to FF, it didnt work. I will try again. I believe it was user error. so if you are subscribed to me, you may see a few test posts. It's not critical as Twitpic and Flickr photo uploads work fine from my BB Curve. (Picasa uploads link the entire photo-album....maybe more user error) -- no one ever dm's me....

@Brandon Send an e-mail to bjmendelson@friendfeed.com, it should work with all accounts, nothing to set up. If it doesn't work then you could contact FF and see if they can fix it.

hey louis- im a bit confused about this new friendfeed email thing becuz of the direct message limit that friendfeed imposes... i just forwarded a long email to myself using my friendfeed email address but the only thing that came thru was the subject heading.. so this email thing isnt that effective yet.. right?

Jesse: I'm emailing a photo from mobile to share@friendfeed.com (have also used username+remotekey@mail2ff.com.) Subject (title) and body (comment) arrives fine but the pic doesnt display. Mobile to Gmail is fine as pic displays in sent items but the Gmail to ff route seems to be a problem any ideas?

Peter I think pictures aren't working right now on FriendFeed via e-mail. They used to work but aren't working for me right now.

Jesse have been in contact with Tudor Bosman about this and he has picked up that some phones send the image with a content-type of application/octet-stream instead of image/jpeg. He says they will add a workaround for this later tonight or tomorrow.

we bought our house in the last days of '06. home prices in my zip are fluctuating bad. 4 months ago, our house was worth $75K more than we paid. 2 months ago, they said it was -$35K what we paid. Yesterday, it's now work $45K more than we paid. That's just based on homes sales of similar sized houses and negates that we live in the best part of our zip. Appraiser said our proper location and state of home tacks on an extra $20K. It's insanity.

On the other flip side (does that even work?), a lot of housing prices have been dramatically inflated between 2000 and 2008. In some areas, homes are dropping in price to something closer to a natural rate of increase. (I'm not saying it doesn't suck to lose equity, just that some of those prices were unnaturally high.)

Jennifer - if people are willing to buy a house in a certain area for a certain price, then it isn't an unreasonable price, right? But if people are buying those houses on the expectation that, even at that price, the value will still go up, that's a risky game. Especially if they get a loan structured so they can sell the house in two years only after paying a bit on the interest and nothing on the principal, or pay the penalty otherwise.

Some good detail here. In theory, the optimal solution would be for your home to appreciate in value while the one you want decreases, but that's not realistic. Usually, both would increase or decrease at approximately the same rate.

Sorry, but $660 in Antioch is psychotic. (I rent in Walnut Creek and am in the market to buy on the cheap). A fun exercise is to find the median home price in 1999 and then use historic 3% appreciation to find the true value. Do this and most will find homes are still WAY overpriced. BTW - property taxes in CA are psychotic as well.
