There's a Yahoo Group called "wefixit" which is full of pros and amateurs who fix their own sewing machines. Even if you don't want to tinker with it yourself, they might have a good recommendation for a shop local to you.

It was really weird that it happened while I was sewing. Got a couple of recommendations for the same place, so I will take it there. I have no luck with sewing machines. They probably know I don't trust them. ;)
