Hey folks, my mom wants to make handmade gifts this year. Stuff that doesn't suck. I know a bunch of you are into crafts and handmade stuff, so what rooms/sites would you recommend? (we don't all want sweaters and scarves for xmas)
Well, she's pretty intermediate when it comes to crochet, but is willing to learn how to do other stuff as well. She sent me a site last night on making earrings. She does know how to sew, as well...I think. (I cc'd her on this thread, so maybe she'll show up eventually)

Go browse around Etsy and see what looks cool.
- Rochelle
You can always knit/crochet things other than sweaters & scarves. Making cases for phones, ipods, etc is always good - more useful, and easy to make since they're small.
- Lo
good idea lo, can do small stuff for the gentlemen in my life. Never been to etsy though I have heard of it. And Rahsheen don't call your Mom out on the interwebz:)

A middle-aged man who exclusively wears a large yellow pimp hat is living with a young monkey in an NYC apartment and no one finds this strange... WTF man...
By exclusively wears, do you mean he is otherwise naked? Because yes, I would find that strange. If he only wears a yellow pimp hat and no other colors, or no other kinds of hats, then not so much.
- Amy℠
No... but I have only seen one occurrence of him sans-big yellow hat... and that was an episode ABOUT him getting said hat washed... Seriously people, if George isn't a monkey-butler then there must be something else going on.
- Johnny Worthington
Did he get the young monkey off a bus at Port Authority?
- Denise
NYC blocks the normal WTF response to anything. Its a rule.
- Moved to Facebook
well said. What I found interesting though was the little blurb from the FOX dude which basically said that any moron should be able to tell that we don't do news we do op ed. Well by golly I don't know that their listeners are aware of that. That's too bad
- Denise
Oh fail. They didn't want Obama to go on the show with Chris Wallace because he was going to get fact checked? Fail. Fail. Fail.

TAIPEI, Taiwan — Liu Hsiao-ling, a 58-year-old Taipei retiree, has Taiwanese friends who live in Chicago. When they get so sick they need to see a doctor, they head for O'Hare and hop a plane for a 20-hour, cross-Pacific trip to Taiwan. "The airline tickets are less expensive than getting treated ... That was actually my face after FriendFeed did a major upgrade. I think it was when they made realtime the default. It's probably the most hilarious photo I've ever posted, though :)
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
wait I have a picture of you in a poopy diaper around here somewhere, gimme a sec lemme scan it in
- Denise
Either keep the one you have now or go shirtless. Save the blue shirt one for if/when facebook adds the ability to throw sheep at people in real-time.
- April Russo (app103)
I actually was going to take a new pic and try to smile, but I don't like pics of me smiling for some reason and I was feeling lazy :(
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
I guess I'm not as young as I seem, Curtiss. That could be a good thing or a bad thing :)
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Pretty crazy, how did that come up in your conversation?
- Joe
I was talking with her about why people insist on measuring the age of their kids in months even after they've turned 1. Someone says 18 months to me and I A) Automatically think the kid must be an infant and then B) (after doing head math, which I hate) I wonder why they didn't just say 1.5.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
and why would I include gestation? now i'm disturbed
- Denise
Oh, I was just thinking that, from a mother's perspective, those are some of the most significant months! After all, they'll remind their children about carrying them during those months for the rest of their lives!
- Mark "DerBingle" J
I'm sorry to hear of your family's loss.
- Admiral Anika
Very sad to hear this news. My wish for you and your family is for comfort in your difficult time.
- MVB (Curmudgeon of FF)
One of the hardest death's is a grandparent. Sorry for your loss.
- Phil Boiarski
Sorry to hear that Shey. Never met my grandmothers; both passed before I was 1. Lost both grandfathers when I was 10. Hopefully you had more time.
- Kevin C. Tofel
Denise; She said that 500 million American jobs will be lost each month if the "stimulus" bill doesn't pass. There aren't that many people in the US.

IHOP for hte Swedish Pancakes or Denny's for Chicken fried steak
- Lindsey is Fierce!
Damn, Monique had to bust out the OPH...There's one in Tigard near here that is simply the bomb. I don't go anymore though because they only serve breakfast food and Cassie's not all that much in to that.
- Alex Scoble
If i have my kid with me, whoever has the kids eat free special. Pancake House is my choice overall.
- David Bisset (sn)
I also prefer Waffle House over both, but between the 2, IHOP.
- Alan Simpson
Oh, and if I get a choice outside of those two...House of Pies in Houston, TX.
- Christian (Simply X)
Neither, since I haven't been to Denny's since I was kid and I've never been to an IHOP. Waffle House and Huddle House FTW!
- Mathew™ one of a kind
Gotta go with IHop, those harvest grain pancakes were the tie breaker
- Denise
Denny's only because I've never had IHOP
- Mike Nayyar
Denny's. But i'm totally biased. On my only two trips to local IHOP we found we humans were not the only species in the restauraunt. This was 10 years ago, and i have no idea why we went back the second time.
- Steve C
Just because it's so traditional, no one is looking for real innovation. Just run it and try to gather people :) No offense Rah !
- directeur
Actually, now that I have started, I'm not sure it's what I want. You kinda hit it on the head. I don't want to gather people...LOL
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
@bhc3 Definitely don't want people following me just for a follow back. That's lame. Follow me because I say interesting stuff :) - http://twitter.com/rahshee...
Once or twice a week. We have a standing Sunday-afternoon call, and usually something turns up that I want to talk to them about during the week. Or I chat with my dad on Google Chat.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Never to my mom. 4 times a year with my dad. It would be more with him if 1) he was ever home, 2) returned a phone call and 3) didn't talk so damn much.
- Admiral Anika
I haven't talked to my mother in years. She is the only person I have blocked on YIM. My dad, for some unknown reason, stopped communicating with me (and my daughter) a little over a year ago, after announcing he was getting married for the 3rd time. It's been a rough year for me. He's one of my favorite people in all this world and someone I admire very much. I can only say that about 5 people that have been a part of my life, and 2 of those are dead.
- April Russo (app103)
A few times a week, we're on really good terms, but they're moving abroad in a couple of years, so I'm making the most of them being around now!
- Vicky
Every week perhaps. Depends. We have a 5 month old baby girl so there´s a lot of reporting.
- Thomas Bøhm
I don't talk to my mom nearly often enough, and I feel guilty for it.
- Joey Gibson
used to be every two weeks (she is 13000miles away, so the phone was expensive), then every week since Dad died, now 2-3 times a week on Skype.
- Bora Zivkovic
I hardly talked to my dad when we lived in the same house. I feel a bit guilty though. We both should try to talk to each other more.
- Derrick
3-7 days a week. i should probably stop that too.
- tiffany
I try to avoid them, but it's hard. The house is big, but not that big and it carries sound well...
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
about 4 times a week. my father who's in his early 70's (got his 1st computer last year and since then has turned into a 16year old girl) emails me FWD'd msgs everyday. And hits me up on skype everytime i make myself visible. I thought about getting him an iphone, but i wouldnt be able to afford the text plan. ;)
- Carlos Ayala
Rahsheen, you suck, don't make me come over there
- Denise
Because of money (or lack of it) I've had to move back with my Mum. My Dad passed away in January, it's just my Mum, me and my dog, Kaz. :-) So we speak all the time. ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
I talk every day with my mom. Family is very important for me.
- Marcel Janus
About every other week on average, usually online. More often if they have *whispers* c-o-m-p-u-t-e-r p-r-o-b-l-e-m-s.
