Though I don't have a data plan, I purchased my latest phone with data-only (or data-mostly) in mind. The business of mapping may be similarly doomed, as indicated by PublicEarth, a new wiki-style database of places launching Monday, and by the continued improvement in authoring tools at the crowdsourced mapping service OpenStreetMap. In the NYT article: Online Maps: Everyman Offers New Directions http://www.nytimes.com/2009...

A study released today (PDF) by Weber Shandwick says the answer is not very well, and that the majority of Fortune 100 companies don’t really get Twitter. Though 73 of 100 companies had at least one registered Twitter account..One major result of this ineffective use seems to be low engagement from followers. Out of the 540 total TwitterTwitterTwitter accounts registered by Fortune 100 companies, 50 percent of the accounts had fewer than 500 followers and another 15 percent weren’t being used at all.

I wonder how we're gonna be looking back on all this in 20 years time. I mean, as much as I despise the guy, he does have a point that advertising alone just won't cut it. There needs to be a more direct route for making money off of editorial content/media on the net. With video and audio media, I certainly see the cable subscription system being introduced for the likes of Hulu, with...

There is no form of cyber warfare that is more effective than cyber spying that remains permanently undetected, and which quietly and invisibly aids and supports conventional warfare.

A Google executive has admitted what most already people know: Google Docs simply isn't good enough yet for prime time. "We wouldn't ask people to get rid of Microsoft Office and use Google Docs because it is not mature yet," Dave Girouard, president of Google's enterprise division recently admitted. He said, though, that he expects that to change in the next year.

According to comScore, the average number of minutes spent online with the site among 18- to 24-year-olds fell in September for the third consecutive month compared to the same period a year ago. And the drop-off rate is accelerating. In July, usage fell 3 percent, in August 13 percent and in September 16 percent. "There's a 'parents turn up at the party, the party's over' kind of thing going on," said Mark Potts, North American managing director for consumer insights at Mindshare.

Fast sites might rank higher, while slower-loading sites might suffer. It’s a proposal that’s proving controversial. Video @ http://videos.webpronews.com/2009...
