protest against Vassar College
Play
I don't think you're using very sound logic here. Perhaps you were banned from Vassar for riding your bike in the wrong place? How can you be sure it's because you're male? Or is there something you're not saying regarding what the cop said to you? - Daniel Morgan
I wasn't riding my bike. me and some other guys were moving rusted nails in the woods. if it was biking the sign does not specify distance. rusted nails could cause critical injuries to those that use the facility. their attempt was to block males in Poughkeepsie from using a public facility that is leased by Poughkeepsie to the college with understanding that the public has access. it is a common place for women to jog and the police will often find ways to block access to local male youth in an attempt to exclude them. this isn't an isolated incident. my family is a member of the farm there. I have seen a pattern of hostility directed against young men. their abuse is completely arbitrary and was an attempt to pick straws to find reasons to eject heterosexual males from a community that is generally hostile to men. - Noah David Simon
As a heterosexual male who attended Vassar, you are delusional. Perhaps you may have looked a tad shady removing rusted nails in the woods? What did the officer say to you? - Daniel Morgan
accusing someone of being delusional doesn't sound like a serious argument. I know who you are Daniel. I know you hang out with Loren Feldman's scene online. I know barbs are a pattern from your community. it is called trolling. those nails were rusted and if you wanted evidence they happen to still be there. you retweet 1938media consistently Daniel. Loren Feldman is posing as me by cybersquatting my domain name - Noah David Simon
I think you're looking for the wrong reasons for your banishment. I'm pretty sure that Potown police are not instructed to keep males away from the farm, and I'm certain that Vassar's early days as a female-only institution (which ended in '69) has nothing to do with how you were treated by a town cop. - Daniel Morgan
I didn't say that. what kind of tautological stupidity are you insinuating now? it is as if you read an @aMANdaCHAPel textbook. no one ever said there were police directions - Noah David Simon
Woah I see you edited your prior comment and linked me with Loren (http://search.twitter.com/search...) I think you're right! I drool over his stuff - Daniel Morgan
I know you from him. you are an easy troll to find - Noah David Simon
it is given that Vassar allows token elitist blue state heterosexual snobs to enter their den of Sotomeyer culture especially if they pay thousands of dollars of tuition, but that is not the agreement that the Poughkeepsie community has with the college - Noah David Simon
Yeah I would also say that's a given. Are we done yet? - Daniel Morgan
no I'm not done. in fact these comments will be mentioned in my next seesmic post. being that I haven't updated in five days. this will be a perfect opportunity to elaborate some of these issues - Noah David Simon
Well I hope you don't think I'm just messing with you. I'm interested in the relationship between the College and the town, but I'm not yet convinced that you were singled out as a heterosexual male. And definitely not convinced that it's a conspiracy of the blue state Sotomeyer den. But mostly I just want to know about the nails in the woods. Were they part of some structure or just chillin on the ground? - Daniel Morgan
there could be chillin in your foot. they are in the front. by the swamp. they were part of some mechanical equipment and crates and they are considered "wild life" by the Al Gores on campus. Cap and Trade in a metaphor could be a Cap in your Ass - Noah David Simon
well I guess next time you remove rusty nails from the forest do it away from the roads and bring someone else's ID - Daniel Morgan
it wasn't by the road. the boys who were removing the nails when I offered to help must of made a lot of noise before I arrived and engineered the tree removal. the trees were covering the nail from the crates. you might notice if you go to that section of the wood you can now make a full circle without any obstruction. this is because of the debris that we moved. when we ask for help with these dangers we aren't taken seriously. - Noah David Simon
So now you're banned for life? - Daniel Morgan from IM
there is always civil disobedience. I do not believe their ban will hold up in a court of law. - Noah David Simon
Yeah I don't think so either. Best of luck. - Daniel Morgan from email
you don't sound sincere with your wishes Daniel - Noah David Simon
I know about VASSAR...bunch of left wing lunatics that are FASCISTS. - AsheDina
Morgan... Well I hope you don't think I'm just messing with you. I'm interested in the relationship between the College and the town, but I'm not yet convinced that you were singled out as a heterosexual male.......... Methinks you are being insincere... why are you so AGAINST freedom, America and basic knowledge of proper etiquette?? Why is this a joke to you?? Why did you say "Im just messing with you?" You know that is a satanic trick? - AsheDina
Noah, I lived up in Saugerties, I know what those loonie tunes are, BOLSHEVIKS. They are commies up there to the MAX. I remember getting my hair cut by this 'lady'---she told me that she was 'glad that I was not an American patriotic FLAG WAVER' I remained silent, until the end....me...(her supposed enemy) left a $20- tip and she walked me out to my car (this was after 9-11-01, NY) and there was my little Tiburon with FLAGS ALL OVER IT. Needless to say...she NEVER invited me back again to get my hair cut. I WONDER WHY... Is it because she hates America SO MUCH, Or that she was totally embarassed to be such a piece of CRAP? - AsheDina
Dear Noah you are GREAT as ever !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Kukia
WHAT A CHANCE WE HAVE YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Kukia
thanks @AsheDina and @Kukia. it is a mixed crowd in Poughkeepsie New York. I'm actually from NYC. it is worse there. the problem is the types at this college just troll when the paradox in their thinking is exposed. believe me I didn't grow up thinking I was going to have to become the angry meat and potato guy. my parents are those leftists you speak of AsheDina. they are too old to be able to change and they live in the context of another era... as if time had passed them by. I just want to be able to go to the woods with my dog without the intervention of people who use inconvenient and arbitrary means to block a person from enjoying nature. their motive was for sure that there are a lot of attractive women from the college that jog there, but I was never a menace in such a way to these college women and if they want their own space they have no right to take over public land - Noah David Simon
you are banned because you look insane and are a nuisance to women. - loren feldman
Loren you don't look insane? I went to the Zoo the other week and was examing the vultures. they have a striking similarity to your face. most women feel I understand the dignity in being a woman. I do not pretend to apply the same values to the genders. I respect women's dignity because I understand their needs. I am very against Social, Biological and Sexual Engineering, and have not found a reason to ever break that point of view. Tampering with gender is one of the biggest cancers of our time. I call it "feminism", but some people mistake feminism as having anything to do with dignity... which it does not. feminism is punitive. this isn't to say I'm perfect and have not made mistakes online, but I am usually the first person to apologize to a woman if given the chance to communicate after a wrong is done. Loren are you as forgiving? you don't even know the context of the issue which is there were no women around. just a bunch of guys trying to fix a path in the woods who were bullied by some security officer. I believe women should have a place to themselves if they want it, but not by stealing a public park under the guise of some donut eating wanna be cop. also as far as attractive women... Marist has a much better selection. I work out at a gym by Marist - Noah David Simon
A disclaimer: I am a male Vassar student. I know the area that you were in - the raised area past the small path on the Vassar Farm, correct? That is the only place on Vassar property to have a "No Biking Allowed" sign that I know of (that area was a mountain biking course). However, that area is now an ecological preserve and is controlled by the Vassar Farm Oversight Committee. They have put in many hours to re-landscape that specific area and plant dozens of young trees - and they don't take disturbances lightly. Though that may not be related to your banishment from Vassar, just know that that is a closely protected area. - Pandaut
are you seriously going to attempt to troll me by proving real men go to Vassar? yes I know they need tokens if they pay the right fee. I live here. I know the culture. - Noah David Simon
I'm sorry you chose to respond before I finished editing my comment, it posted in the middle of my typing beforehand. - Pandaut
there were nails in that area. my family are members of the farm. I know the rules and the rules were chosen to be arbitrary so they could discriminate. time for Vassar to give the area back to the city of Poughkeepsie. It is obvious that Vassar wants to keep people they don't like out. - Noah David Simon
I agree that the debris shouldn't be around there (that big piece of a tractor is... unsightly to say the least), but do you mind going into a bit more specifics of how you were removing the nails and how Vassar security (or was it Arlington/Poughkeepsie police?) approached you? - Pandaut
it was Vassar security that creeped up on a group effort to remove debris from the path. I actually had just arrived maybe five minutes before the ambush, but the boys wanted to play there and they decided they would get hurt. the details of the sign were not clear as to the distance that the rule applied. the security guard was hostile and surly. he was quite provocative and acted like a bully and troll. it was unbecoming representation of your college. he consistently screamed for people to shut up - Noah David Simon
So this was day, then? And the boys had bikes? Was the group behaving like a community service project or just kind of tossing stuff around? - Pandaut
the group was interested in clearing the area of dangerous debris. it wasn't planned. it was responsive to a danger. I didn't know the boys till the ambush event. they are now on my facebook profile however - Noah David Simon
Huh, never heard them (Vassar Security) pull something like that before - they barely even bat an eye to a 200+ person mob trying to get in one door. Any idea about what caused him to "scream" at the group? - Pandaut
obviously they hold a double standard to young men who don't look like alternative trash. the group was interested in clearing the area of dangerous debris. it wasn't planned. it was responsive to a danger. I didn't know the boys till the ambush event. they are now on my facebook profile however. also I must say that banning people from biking in whatever area is quite mean spirited. there is a general demeanor at Vassar that is disrespectful of male culture. the book store by the college with Khalili and Ayers in the window reflects a hostility culture that I find disgusting. the community should be ashamed of their attitudes towards men. - Noah David Simon
with women occupying around 60% of college campuses and grad schools this renegade arrogance of affirmative action attitudes is clearly misguided and destructive. the security only reflects the culture of your educators. - Noah David Simon
The bike banning is to protect the newly-planted saplings I mentioned from being destroyed and that is the only area on the entire Vassar campus where that is in effect (that I know of). I'm not on campus and have yet to see the new location of the bookstore, but I'm guessing they've got a display of "intelligent radicals" up in the window? - Pandaut
there isn't newly planted anything. it is dirt, mechanical debris and dead trees. too much shade to grow anything. the rule is to chase away men - Noah David Simon
Incorrect, I had a discussion with the Farm Oversight Committee about that very same location. Though the area is applies to is somewhat vague... it's actually the area beyond the sign and into the green clearing - Pandaut
I have photographs of the area and the saplings as well - Pandaut
we weren't in the green clearing either. and bikes aren't worse then gay joggers - Noah David Simon
You'd be surprised at how much better a gay jogger is than a bike at dodging baby trees - Pandaut
I would be extremely surprised. especially since the gay joggers run in packs - Noah David Simon
That's probably less gay joggers and more cross country team. Maybe a little of both. - Pandaut
a little of both? - Noah David Simon
It's not unlikely that there are gay members of the cross country team - Pandaut
the only straight men I've seen play sports are on the Rugby team. regardless... the reasoning was arbitrary and suspect... and has been terribly unclear as to it's distance parameters. I tried explaining this to the security - Noah David Simon
And you've confirmed this with all of them individually? - Pandaut
Troll bait there, don't fall for it. - Pandaut
I don't have problems with the gay dudes. my problem is with the little tiny angry wild life nerds. the dorks that ask you to put your dog on a leash. pathetic rule sticklers. I bet they were hall monitors in highschool. - Noah David Simon
Angry wildlife nerds? - Pandaut
Ah, those folks. - Pandaut
So, to sum up your argument: You're banned from Vassar because you were a man near some bikes near a seemingly arbitrary "No Bikes Allowed" sign. Correct? - Pandaut
inconvenient truths feel like a stick up your ass. I should go spill toxic waste there so I can bike in peace. - Noah David Simon
no... my bike was there. I bike there regularly. so do others. they were arbitrary. that is the point. - Noah David Simon
the security came out because the boys were having fun in a pack and were 15 years old. that is the truth. it had nothing to do with anything else. they were making the area nicer for everyone. and they were great kids to boot - Noah David Simon
I'm wondering now if the "No Bikes Allowed" bit applies to the whole of the Ecological Preserve. http://farm.vassar.edu/map... -- As for the banishment, there should be a way to appeal it; just probably not an obvious one. - Pandaut
no the no bikes allowed is whatever they want to make of it. I take the sign at it's word. it is not clear and they left it that way with a purpose. - Noah David Simon
the real reason of ridding the biking has nothing to do with trees - Noah David Simon
the real reason is Vassar is worried about insurance and it is a common place to make ramps and jumps. - Noah David Simon
It *was* a mountain biking course and had a cave-like wall for that exact purpose. That entire green field was ramps and jumps and is now filled with saplings - Pandaut
I'm supposing that the No Biking applies to the entire of the eco-preserve, of which the borders start around that area. I don't know, I don't have a real answer for that and neither do you. - Pandaut
it has also become a common place for people to smoke weed. security probably thought they caught us smoking. I don't smoke... and the boys weren't either. so they threw what they could at us when they realized they were going after good guys - Noah David Simon
It's a college campus. There's very few places that can be considered "uncommon" places to smoke weed. - Pandaut
I have noticed a trend as of lately. - Noah David Simon
Since the 60s? - Pandaut
since Obama - Noah David Simon
Really? College weed smoking on the rise since Obama took office? - Pandaut
marijuana culture seems to go in cycles. it became less public for five years, - Noah David Simon
I smell it all over Poughkeepsie this summer. it had been contained for a bit. I'm not saying people weren't smoking... but they were discrete. - Noah David Simon
this security guy thought he caught a bunch of punks smoking dope... and instead he had nothing - Noah David Simon
Okay, that's a different issue. I was trying to find infographics and statistics about young adult marijuana smoking. - Pandaut
don't bother - Noah David Simon
social science can't be proven - Noah David Simon
Well I don't need it now, I agree that it's less discrete - Pandaut
It's usage hasn't suddenly skyrocketed though - but this is a whole different discussion. - Pandaut
so does my story sound real? - Noah David Simon
truth is I should of gone ballistic and been a pain in the ass... but I was with my dog and I didn't want my dog taken away - Noah David Simon
My experience with security has been that they're usually pretty chill about thinking they had something and then coming up with nothing. However, I don't know the daytime security or even the summer security (if they bring in new folks). But I do think that you're leaving something of your story out, jumping to conclusions, or there was a severe misinterpretation somewhere between you and security (on either end). - Pandaut
if I were alone I might of just laughed at the guy and walked off. instead I signed papers saying I wouldn't come back. I should of asked for a lawyer. - Noah David Simon
believe what you want. there were other people there and the rusted nails are probably still all over the place - Noah David Simon
Private property... sort of. I don't think a lawyer could have helped you there. However, I think that rather than "organize a protest" against Vassar, you should seek out methods of appealing the banishment with the college. Vassar administration has already done the protest thing with the union marches last year and would probably ignore yours with great skill. Approaching the administration calmly and directly about the issue would get you a better response and a better discussion going about the college's relationship with you and the surrounding area - Pandaut
I prefer to just ruin their reputation. they have to negotiate with the city for all kinds of things. the economy here is not dependent on the college these days. in fact many people in the city are very annoyed with Vassar and it's need to be accommodated. I'd prefer to see Vassar lose their lease to the preserve. frankly Poughkeepsie could use a place for the dogs to walk off the leash. the townies here are seriously pissed. perhaps if you have any concern for Vassar you will talk to your people and fix this problem yourself. I guarantee you I will be a thorn in Vassar's side. nothing would give me more pleasure then ruining the religion of Al Gore and friends. and I assure you that other people around town with our new Republican mayor feel likewise - Noah David Simon
From everything I can find, Vassar owns all or nearly all of the Farm property: 200 acres purchased from Vassar Brothers in 1895 and 300 acres donated by Augustus and May Elton Davies in 1911. The only thing I can find about a lease is Vassar leasing 10 acres to the Poughkeepsie Farm Project. Edit: and the Doughty property (an early Vassar trustee) in 1916 - Pandaut
I do have concern for Vassar, but I'm almost positive you will be successfully ignored by the entirety of the college. Also, since your goal is clearly malevolent, I'm guessing that no amount of reason will get through to you? - Pandaut
I don't have much hope for the community at Vassar. but the town might not either - Noah David Simon
Naturally you wouldn't, your political views appear to be more or less opposite Vassar's general opinion. - Pandaut
Vassar opinion is in parallel with their actions. - Noah David Simon
Noah: I think you're pulling 'Vassar's opinion' out of thin air - Daniel Morgan
you can do better then that Daniel Morgan. there is a long thread here. you are lazy. I'm not here to be nice to Vassar. you send word to their people that the community will hear about this. I'm not going to beg Vassar. I assure you when people in the community want me to be active on the farm the first thing I will do is remind them of this incident. this is embarrassing to Vassar and if you cared about your college you will take care of it yourself. in the mean time I assure you I will not take their ban seriously. I have no intention of honoring their authority. neither will the other minion of witnesses to this man hate. I'm not going to dignify Vassar by respecting any of their authority. if you think they are reasonable and you want to do the right thing then you should do it. in the mean time I will hurt Vassar by insuring that the community will not help them with any city cooperation or money - Noah David Simon
