Motorola Owners' Forum: whats up with my Droid... -
"You are not alone! My Droid has been making phone calls in the middle of the night. 3 nights ago it made 10 phone calls, which were in reverse order of my recent calls. 2 nights ago, I woke up and caught it making phone calls, so I turned it off. When I woke up it was back on and calling my voicemail. Yesterday I wiped the device and started from scratch. I also deleted my call log before I went to bed, and it did not make any calls last night!" - A. T. from Bookmarklet

Rubber duck debugging - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia -
Jump to: navigation, search Rubber Duck Debugging is an informal term used in software engineering to refer to a method of debugging code. The name is a reference to an apocryphal story in which an unnamed expert programmer would keep a rubber duck by their desk at all times, and debug their code by forcing themself to explain it, line-by-line, to the duck.[1] - Ramit Sethi

I have to say I respect Ford for NOT taking our money especially after they posted such a massive loss.

I'm not here to build a brand...Then again I'm not sure that quasi-communist/socialist/capitalist, gaming/computer/home theater nerd who consistently loses his ass on the stock markets is much of a brand anyhow.
It may be your purpose in life to be a cautionary tale to others. How's that for a brand? ;) - Kevin (aka ThreadKilla)
Gosh, Kevin, I hope not, hehe, although it's probably true on the markets thing. - Scoble, Alex Scoble
I keep meaning to build a brand. Any day now. - Ken Sheppardson
LOL, Ken...yeah I keep meaning to make a Procrastinator's Room here on friendfeed, just haven't gotten around to it yet. - Scoble, Alex Scoble

Twitter is at least a dress rehearsal (Scripting News) -
"In a way, as a user of Twitter, I have the same business model as the investors in Twitter. I don't know what it is, but I have a feeling there's something here. I look at it this way, if you tried to tell me what we're doing on Twitter has nothing to do with what we'll be doing with networks in the future, I'd be 100 percent sure you were wrong. There's something here. The challenge is to figure out what it is." - Paul Buchheit from Bookmarklet
I really like this quote because to me that feeling of "something' is what's most important when evaluating new products. It's painfully vague, but very real and the best indicator that I've found. - Paul Buchheit
in some sense, the vagueness of that "something" also makes it far more interesting. Kind of like opening a surprise without knowing what's inside. - Ashwani Kumar
Interesting. How often do you think early adopters experience false positives with this feeling? - Bruce Lewis
Do you do FriendFeedGeist? - xyz
That's just it, a "network" isn't a business model, it's a commodity. In the 80s, when you first used discussion forums or email, it might have seemed there was something big "there" in Compuserve, QLink, et al. But it turned out email and usenet were commodities. If multicast realtime short messaging is a valuable network, its value may not be at all in one company, but in everyone being a peer on that network, not a client. - Ray Cromwell
What is NOT a commodity is search. This is why friendfeed needs even more metadata! - Robert Scoble
I agree, search and user experience aren't commodities. RSS is distributed/federated, yet there is value in Blogger/Wordpress and blogsearch. I use FriendFeed because it has a great UX, not because I'm 'locked in' because of some subscription data/friend network/accounts. - Ray Cromwell
I think that Twitter's greatest strength is also its greatest weakness -- the 140 character limitation. It acts as a ceiling for what you can actually do with it. - Stan Scott
Stan: you are right. But only because building a great search experience is really tough without metadata. Here, try doing this search: find all tweets done the day the plane crashed into the Hudson but only display Tweets that were done within 50 miles of the crash scene. You can't do that. Why? No metadata. - Robert Scoble
I am gratified to see Robert Scoble's appreciation for the role of metadata in enabling more powerful search. (And he's right if he argues that the current state of hashtagged metadata on Twitter is too weak and primitive. We need better semantic markup.) - Sean McBride

the whole pirate bay story has just re-awokened my huge annoyance and tiredness at big media conglomerates. What value do they add nowadays, really?
i dont have an opinion one way or another on the exact story around the pirate bay, i dont do file swapping etc. But on the other hand the media dinosaurs used to "add value" when funding and distribution were key bottlenecks to getting anything done - but now distribution and funding are a lot easier. Now move on, find new ways to add value, or die. Bullying children and small business, preventing fair use, and trying to trademark magic wands is just not worthy business, and does not deserve protection or help by states. Heck, the auto industry deserves more saving than these companies do. - Iphigenie

Haha, just made the vet explain what Abilene's 'anal glands' are, and how they're naturally 'expressed' and how the vet has to 'express' them if they're not being naturally 'expressed'. Gross.
