One of my PCs has a virus that is so bad... (HOW BAD IS IT?) ...It's so bad that it won't even let me boot into safe mode to do scanning and maintenance. Anyone have a super-magnet I can borrow for a few seconds?
:( I'm often resorted to just restoring from base if it's Windows in this case. By chance, is this virus called Security Tool or something like it, with a light-blue shield for an icon?

Actually, that's not a bad idea. Get a Live CD from Ubuntu and use it to back up any data you can't do without. Then wipe the HD clean and start over.
- Steven Perez
Micah, that's not entirely impossible, so I won't rule it out, but this is a nasty worm or set of worms, the names of which I did not write down while I had functionality. It's OK, though, I was looking for an excuse to redo this PC. It has been too long.

I have another HD lying around I can use as the new C drive and will just pop the old C into my Vantec enclosure to get what I need off of it after installing the new system.

I second the idea of booting from a Linux Live CD (or USB stick, whatever). I did that to recover data from Jeanette's hard drive when it failed -- mounted the drive as NTFS, copied everything that could be copied (thankfully, nothing important was lost), then wipe the drive (dd if=/dev/random of=/dev/hda), get a new drive and reinstall Windows.
- Tudor Bosman
Word of warning: please do not run that "dd" command unless you're absolutely sure that you never want data from that drive ever again :)
- Tudor Bosman
You linux guys are persistent. It actually *would* be a bit better for me to be able to transfer off and reinstall without having to pop open the case, so I think i will try the Trinity bootable. Thanks.
- Josh Haley
Josh - do you need me to send you the external drive that you sent me a while back? I can include my large pipe wrench too, which will come in handy, should the fix attempts not work.
- Morgan Haley
Morg, you were supposed to send that back like a year ago. It was supposed to get shipped back and forth. :p But nah, it's not necessary for this.

"Just got back from a press conference tonight with Beyonce and she spoke of a few upcoming movie projects. The last one on her list was Wonder Woman! Yes, Wonder Woman! She said she has to meet up with the writers and directors in a couple months and things will start to pick up by mid-2010 for a late 2011 release. She said the writers were Stuart Beatti and David Elliot, the guys that wrote GI Joe: Rise of Cobra and the director was John Moore, the guy that directed Max Payne."

Everyone is going to focus on whether she can pull it off. She might be able to even though she wouldn't be my choice. It is " the guys that wrote GI Joe: Rise of Cobra" and "the guy that directed Max Payne" that scares the hell out of me.

It all sounds shitty to me. More of the usual crappy treatment WW gets.

Okay, she said she's *in* WW, but apparently didn't say she's *playing* WW. What if she's the villain? Beyonce as Cheetah, maybe?
- Kevin Shaum
Ok, yeah I heard about Whedon doing it for like two years, but overall my interest in a WW movie is incredibly low. I can't think of a single decent super heroine movie. Maybe Spiderman 3.

Manhood in the sense I'm talking about here just means you have or recently had a penis. If "she" has a uterus and can bear children, then I would have to agree. - Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Yeah, you keepin' it real. Real ignorant. Because you didn't take this picture to comment on the fashion sense. You took the picture and posted it to make a comment on gender. And if we take gender as you define it, you have no grounds to determine if that is a man or a woman in the photo. Raise your eyebrows until their teepees if you can't help yourself. But you're out of place playing gender police. That ain'tcho job.
- nakachi
I have not attempted to define gender. I have merely stated my opinion on what I saw in the photo (which I didn't actually take). I did not peel off those tight capris to see what plumbing was down there, nor did I ask for a medical or mental history. This person just looks like a man to me. I don't see why I'm not allowed to say that. How am I being ignorant?
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
I love you, Rahsheen. You know I do. But can you really tell me you don't see what's wrong with this?
- nakachi
I guess I'm well outside the boundaries of politically correct. Other than that, no. You'll have to explain because I'm at a loss to see why I'm not allowed to call someone who looks like a man...a man.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
All I can tell you, Rah, is that it's deeper than looks. Much, much, much deeper. The problem with being transgendered or just queer in general in this society is that too many of us cannot, will not go beyond what we think we see.
- nakachi
Until I know the person, it's all I have. You walk around looking and acting like a freakshow, people notice. I'm not going to sit here and try to guess whether this is just a dude that likes dressing like a woman, a gay dude who has taken things too far, or a tranny who picked the wrong outfit. I have no problem with the LGBT community, but that also means I'm going to treat you like...

- Liz
Was speaking in a more general sense since I see that all the time here. Guys, dressed like women, acting all types of extra. As for that last question...I'll leave that for a different thread. :)
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
"Acting all types of extra?" Okay, see... Rahsheen. No one gets to determine the social parameters of masculinity and femininity independent of all of us. So if a person chooses to dress in a way that makes them feel happy about themselves, who are you to call it "extra"? You don't have to like it. Your vote was not solicited, so who are you to divvy out "treatment"?
- nakachi
As an example: If someone likes to dress up as a clown every day, it is well within my right to not like it or just think it's a little extra. Will I treat them badly or even different because of it? Probably not. It is my opinion that they look ridiculous because the average person just doesn't dress like that, but I'm not going to force it on anyone else. I'm not judging them, I'm not...

The clown analogy was only to make it clear that this really has nothing to do with sexuality or gender and more to do with looking ridiculous in public. I caption it "This is a man" because it's a man wearing capris, flip flops, and a damn purse just to name a few things. Yes it's shocking to some, slightly amusing to others. You guys seem to have a problem with anyone pointing it out at all.

- Mark Davidson
from BuddyFeed
Yeah, I'm kind of on nakachi and j. brotherlove's side in this discussion. And by 'kind of' I mean totally. Sorry Rah, but this just reeks of "HAW HAW look at teh freak!" to me, even if you didn't intend it that way.
- cecily
No, and I don't think "bother" is the right word. I'm good friends with a few women who rock jeans and a t-shirt on a regular basis or who go with a dress shirt and slacks.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Mark, It was about a man wearing ridiculous women's clothing with the attitude to match. I didn't think it would spark such heated discussion.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
What exactly is ridiculous about the outfit? Because I'm telling you, other than the fuzzy houseshoes (really?), s/he is dressed like about a dozen other women I passed in Vancouver over the course of my day.
- cecily
I'm not sure I'm entirely disagreeing with "HAW HAW look at teh freak!" and to be honest, I'm still not seeing where the line is being drawn. Is it wrong for me to classify certain clothes as being for a male or female? Is it wrong for me to notice a man dressing in clothes made for a woman or vice versa? Or, is it just wrong to post a pic of someone who might possibly be having gender identity issues?
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
I don't think the person is having the issues Rah. I think *you* are having issues with someone who chooses to dress in a fashion that they feel helps them express their identity to the world. It's just that you don't happen to agree with their method of expression.
- cecily
Amber, I like women who dress like men. *bats eyelashes*
- cecily
Cecily, correct me if I'm wrong, but at no point in this thread have I disagreed with what you just said. Is it wrong for me to disagree with someone's method of expression?
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Nope, I'm not saying it's wrong at all Rah. Just saying what I'm seeing and trying to understand your position.
- cecily
I think what Nakachi and J. were getting at is that if this were only about the clothes, then your post might've read "Look at this fucked up outfit." Instead, you chose to call out gender in this instance, which raises flags. Plus, there's also the fact that you used the word "tranny", which most transgendered activists would tell you is kind of the equivalent of a white person using the 'N' word. If you're not a member of that community, it can't be taken in any other way except as a pejorative.
- cecily
Rah, you just seem so positive that it is a man, that you keep making comments about, "a man wearing ridiculous women's clothes with an additude to match." "This is a man dressed like a girl. Not only that, it's a man dressed in a horrible girl outfit." I just find it odd that even though it's an assumption you seem so positive about that it isn't just a flat-assed woman with horrible ligaments, and bad elbows.
- Jimminy
So despite your protestations to the contrary, the fact that you made this post about gender (instead of fashion) and did so by using derogatory terms reads like you've got some concerns (for lack of a better term) about gender representation, and some firmly held beliefs about what is "right" and what is "wrong". And you know - if that's the case so be it - but I just don't understand your reaction to people pointing that out.
- cecily
So, finally, someone gets to the point. I only said tranny because I was not aware it was a derogatory term. I apologize for that. I call out gender because one more female with a silly outfit on wouldn't be worth posting. I never said this post wast just about clothes. I have no beliefs about gender or sexuality, which is exactly why I have a problem with people pointing it out. If a dude wants to dress like a woman, that's fine, but I just felt like this was pushing the boundaries of ridiculous.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Full on dress as men, Amber? I'm not sure what that entails. Men are pretty boring in what they wear, so a woman dressing like a man isn't all that exciting.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
And as to why it's wrong... the only analogy I've been able to come up with is that it would be like someone continuing to call you "boy" even though you identify as a grown man. The person calling you boy is doing it to reduce you in their eyes, to "put you in your place", so to speak. It's about power, and power relations. So by your insisting on calling this person a "man" when you...

Cecily, you make good points, but I haven't posted who this person is. I've only stated that they are a man...which they probably are. Whether they identify as male is irrelevant. I'm talking about what I see in the photo. Others actually have doubts. Now, does type of exposure hurt...or help?
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
But you don't *know* if they're male or female Rah. And if the person is tucking, or if they've had the full surgery, what this person calls her/himself is far more important than whatever label you want to put on them. Call people what they want to be called - not what you think they should be called. Gender is more than what a person is or isn't packing in his/her pants/bra cups.
- cecily
is this a witch hunt? or is this the trial going on?
- Gus
And Rah, I think you know me well enough to know that I'm not trying to harangue you. I'm hoping to understand you, and hoping to help you understand what other people are saying. I'll say it again - believe what you want to believe. It's a free country. But I know you know when you put stuff out there, people might call you on it. And that's what is going on in this thread, despite any derailing comments such as "witch hunts" (which are SO NOT HELPFUL).
- cecily
Cecily - 1: I like bigger women; 2: There is no way you can tell me with a straight face, that outfit is flattering on that man. Unlike gender identity, fashion is a choice; 3: For all we know, that's a very heterosexual transvestite; 4. It's still a ridiculous outfit.

Mark, I wish my ass looked that good in a pair of capri pants. The only thing I question about this outfit is the fuzzy houseshoes outside in broad daylight. But apparently, nobody else is twigging on that - it's because a "man" is wearing "womens" clothing, which is all about forcing rigid gender identity roles on people.
- cecily
Cecily, I've already touched on this, but nobody can look at you and see what's in your heart. What they can do as look at you in see whether you are male or female. I'm pretty sure there is science behind that. Now, in reality, that science doesn't always work out because there are other issues at work. But, if someone *looks* like a man, they are a man to like 90% of people out there....

- cecily
Rah, as far as I know the scientifically proven psychological gender discrimination part of the human brain only works with faces and voices.
- Jimminy
Well, in retrospect, it did cause a discussion. Maybe it's not a man, maybe it's a woman with no curves, big hands, and ashy ankles. But, I found it interesting and the story behind it was that it was a man with a fierce walk. If you don't actually know what you're looking at, though..how can you ever accept it? It's like people saying they're color-blind when it comes to race. It doesn't make sense to ignore differences as it does to acknowledge and accept them.

I got to thinking, how do we determine what gender the person is forensically, assuming the tiles are 6x6 and they are 6 high, so that's 36in, average counter height, but the person is less than 2x this measurement by a considerable bit, even by eyeballing it, I'd guess about 6inches. Totally 66in 5'6". This is considerably short for a man, so it's most likely a woman.
- Jimminy
if each tile is 6 inches, this individual is exactly 6'2" tall. since there are no women in the world who are this tall, we can only conclude this is a man... confirming the eye-witness testimony.
- Gus
Gus, the person isn't quite 2x times as tall. I've measured the via scale, using photoshop, it comes out to around 5'4". Also, Rah didn't actually see this in person, thus no eye-witness testimony.
- Jimminy
lol, if you can't detect sarcasm and wanna get technical, don't forget the floor doesn't start at the yellow tiles... and the subject's head extends beyond the border.
- Gus
Gus, I took that into account, still doing more number crunching but it's right at 5'4" -5'5". I'm uber technical.
- Jimminy
oky doky, but you counted tiles incorrectly in your example. :)
- Gus
Gus, technically I did, but I factored the 2 partial tiles into one, there is generally a basing tile, which is 3-4in in height, and then the very top tiles weren't full tiles, the lip adds a little bit of height do to the camera perspective. I just factored these to tiles into 1 single tile. lol :)
- Jimminy
j pretty much said what I was feeling/thinking about this whole post.

There is no way that person is 5'4-5'5, they have to be nearly 6' if we're estimating that counter is 3' tall. Show us your photoshop stats so we can visually see where you're going wrong. Also highlight the sideboob.

J, Cecily and Nakachi -- y'all did an excellent job in this thread. Rahsheen, I don't hate you because of this thread, but I hope you have been educated by it. This is an issue that is especially close to my heart, as I have more than one transgendered friend.
- DO ANYBODY NO MONIQUE
The only thing I can gather from this thread is that looking at someone and assuming their gender is wrong. Apparently, this is a touchy subject for some of you, but no one has actually explained the Why of it. Assuming it's a man in capri pants and fuzzy slippers, I don't see why I'm not allowed to say WTF. Also, according to Jimminy's math, I'm *considerably* short for a man, so I'm most likely a woman?
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Ah, and maybe that it why this thread even went so far. I'm not calling WTF simply on a man wearing women's clothes. I'm calling WTF on a man wearing this particular women's outfit.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
See, before this got out of hand, I thought that the joke was on Rahsheen, like "I was checking out this dude's ass for a good two minutes before I realized he was a dude."
- s t e v e
Lindsey summed up this thread and the reactions to it really, really well.
- cecily
Except that what Lindsey said has nothing to do with why I posted this. No offense to Lindsey as assumptions were made early on, which is the only reason this thread is so damn long.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Then I guess I am still unclear as to what the point of this post was? Can you explain?
- DO ANYBODY NO MONIQUE
Yes. I found this outfit to look ridiculous and unflattering, especially on a man. I copied the image and caption verbatim from elsewhere. The first few responses were mostly what I expected, but I didn't expect anyone to feel a way about such a simple caption.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
So then you caused the confusion on your own post. With no explanation and no other caption other than "This is a man" how can you *not* expect that people would think that is what you were poking fun at? This post and your new African-American one go hand in hand. Without any explanations as to what it is *you* found interesting about the picture or why you chose to post it, you can't get mad at people for determing your intentions on their own based on what is said in the post/caption.
- DO ANYBODY NO MONIQUE
Oh, so it's ok to assume things about something based on what you see before you? I thought that is what everyone was upset about. Now, I'm really confused.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
And, for the record, I am not mad. Just trying to understand exactly WTF happened here.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Boy, please. You are cleverly trying to semantically argue my point. You know exactly what I am saying, and you know exactly what you did when you posted this. Simply posting "This is a man" and leaving it at that with no further explanation, you *had* to know what you were going for. It wasn't an innocent "oh hey, look at this ugly outfit" post, so let's get off that. You left the post...

Well, then you can continue to expect this type of backlash on posts like these when you offer no other explanation, and you shouldn't be so shocked by it.
- DO ANYBODY NO MONIQUE
I had a similar sighting a few weeks ago with a buddy of mine. The exchange was hillarious with a "id throw her one" comments. When we discovered the 6 ft 4 in heels gal was in fact a dude, we could only shrug and say, "that guy has sweet legs, he must work out." :)

What Mo said. We have context *now* that we didn't have before. People misunderstood your meaning, Rah. We asked for clarification, and tried to work it out. But IONO, throwing up your hands and claiming exasperation when we misunderstood your message seems like you're locking the door after the horse has already run out of the barn.
- cecily
And you did see what others thought on this post. It's just that some of the more vocal posters in the thread (*raises hand*) questioned your thought process more than the post itself. Am I off base, or did that rankle you a little bit?
- cecily
I'd like an answer to Cecily's question as well. Is it that people questioned your intent that has you boggled?
- DO ANYBODY NO MONIQUE
I think a better way of initiating this conversation knowing Rah's character would have been to give him the benefit of the doubt, ask for specifics about his attitudes towards transgenders and/or transvestites and reserve judgment until after he had a chance to explain his motivation. Gus, using Mrs Doubtfire as an example in this thread is a false analogy. Robin William's character was an actor using a disguise to spend time with his kids. Mark, the basis of the humor in Mrs. Doubtfire is a man dressing as a woman, for whatever reason. You don't have to dissect it. It's an obvious fact.
- Gus
man oh man....the things I could do wit dat!!!!!
- Jeremy
i felt it was a hurtful thing to ridicule somebody for what they wear.Strange how uptight people get when men wear colorful or feminine clothes, while women can wear anything they want and rarely get ridiculed for it. Some people sure have double standards, this is a putdown just like racism
- daviza
Mark, I'm not going to dissect my own sarcasm. You're on your own there. :)
- Gus
The bishop of rome wears a funny-looking hat. OK, now where's the line of people ready to publicly express their outrage for my posting a personal opinion about someone's choice of clothing?
- Gus
he's got better legs and butt than me! Kudos!
- Melissa
choice or not, the hat is still funny-looking.
- Gus
At first I was confused because I didn't realize what was going on. As the thread progressed, I realized that y'all probably thought I had a problem with LGBT folks, which is ridiculous at best. Now that we've come this far, I'm confused and a little upset at how this went down.

I finally saw this photo from a large TFT instead of from my iPhone. Those are scuffs, people. Not fuzzy slippers.

Mark, as far as I know there is no "determining criteria for posting on FF," and if there is it wasn't laid down by me. I ask myself whether I'm using my time in a constructive and important way not because it's the rules, but because I don't want to think "OH SHIT DO-OVER PLEASE!!!" right before I die. Also, it wasn't explicitly stated but my original post was meant to imply that if...

I visited Kevin Marks at Google today. Here's the video of what he showed me: http://www.blip.tv/file... -- how to make your blog more social by adding FriendConnect to it. More details shortly here:
I shot this with my Canon 5D MKII. Unfortunately I have to manually focus and everytime I do that the noise from me manipulating the camera gets transfered to the video. Sorry about that. Still learning how to use this new equipment. This is the kind of video we'll be doing more of for Building43.com.
- Robert Scoble
I shot this in 1080p on my Canon, brought the file into iMovie, saved it out at a lower bit rate, uploaded it via TubeMogul.com which pushed it over to Blip.tv. Pretty good quality for on camera microphone. I was using a fixed 24mm F2.8 lens.
- Robert Scoble
I look forward to this integration as well.. maybe over the weekend
- Sardar Mohkim Khan
I hope to make a lot more "how to" videos for http://www.building43.com -- what do you think? Do you like these? If so, we'll do more from other companies too.
- Robert Scoble
Considering the room we were in was just fluorescent lights, the colour came out pretty well. Nice camerawork.
- Kevin Marks
really cool video. I tried friendconnect on my blog, but because of my small blog community, it didn't show much friends, so I uninstalled it. But watching this video makes me want to install it again :)
- xavier vespa
Kevin: this camera (the Canon 5D Mark II) rocks. The more I use it the more I fall in love with it. Only problem is it's a bit tough to manually focus and that also causes audio "clicks" to be generated. I'll work on that, we're getting external microphones for these. Both Rocky and I have a 5D MKII now.
- Robert Scoble
interesting, Blip was displaying the MP4 file up to now. In the background it was transcoding to Flash. Now it's playing the Flash and the quality isn't nearly as nice. The full MP4 is here: http://blip.tv/file... -- much better quality, if your computer can display it.
- Robert Scoble
I've had friendconnect on my blog for a while, it's been great. Google chatback is great for interacting with visitors to the blog, too.
- Iain Baker
It's nice to watch an interview where the image is so sharp.
- Richard A.
Can everyone play the MP4? If so, this quality freaking rocks!!!! Check this out if you can play it: http://a1.video3.blip.tv/0020000... Richard, you ain't kidding! It's amazing that I can shoot and deliver this quality now from an SLR that isn't even optimized for video!
- Robert Scoble
The quality is really good but the shallow DOF is a bit of a problem when viewing Kevin's laptop screen.
- Yuval Atzmon
Yuval: yup, and that's with a 24mm F2.8 lens. Makes it hard to focus, too, because the screen is too small to see properly (you can't focus through the lens, because the mirror is up to allow light to go to the sensor). I'll get the hang of it, though, and I'll also play around with fstops to get more depth of field.
- Robert Scoble
In the flash video version I can see jumps when the camera is moved fast. Will try mp4 version. Edit: The download took serious time, server had a low bandwidth... quality of the video is great, but I still have horizontal and angular cuts when camera moves back and forth between his face and the laptop screen. Might be because of my refresh rate and/or DirectX-graphic card version though.
- ilter
Watching the mp4 feed via Silverlight 3 beta 1 which now supports mp4 video, playback, quality very good, but agree about shallow DOF issue.
- Martin Duffy
I like the idea of more "How-To" video's. However, I would consider taking the time to do more editing. Like how about having the interview cut between you and him talking, to a screencast that is nice and clean/visible. Basically, keep the great dialog but improve the video of the screen you are both talking about.
- Kevin Keeney
Kevin: we will try to do more, especially as we construct building43.com since we have two camera and Rocky does editing but I have tried to do this several times and it is pretty tough to justify/do. Why? One reason I get the access I do is because I don't take much time. Doing this would require a lot more time and access to the interviewee's computer. Not to mention editing time, which costs money. Keep in mind I am mostly playing around right now until we get building43 up and running in May.
- Robert Scoble
I'm still wondering, what can FriendConnect do for new blogs, not the static ones?
- Toni @ NavinoT
Robert & everyone, I'm trying to listen in on these conversations for Building43. Regarding the comment about doing screencasts (time and cost), what if you could do both simultaneously? Robert, you could do your video for the live interaction effect while the demo/interviewee is processing the screencast and edited/voiced over later. Using something like Jing could achieve this but its just a thought.
- Jason Cronkhite
Just enabled this on my site interested to see if it draws people into the conversation. Feel free to stop by KnowtheNetwork.com

Pardon the hijack, but I'd love to get people's recommendations for screenscasting software ... looking at SlideShare and Evernote....
- Richard ¿digame? Walker
Love the How To video, more please. Would be interesting to see Facebook Connect as a comparison, although guess its slightly different? ;-)
- Steven Horner
@Richard - neither of those are screencasting software

nice, been using friend connect for a while, glad you got it working

Glad you finally got it up on your blog Robert, now add some gadgets.

FriendFeed to Twitter tips: Use 119 characters to avoid truncation. If your FF post is longer, end a thought at 115 so that your tweet does not get cut off mid sentence.
Thanks for the tip on # of characters (but do you count how many you're typing or what?). Also, I've seen people on Twitter complaining about having people on FriendFeed posting a link which requires 2 clicks to get to from Twitter. But, if you use FriendFeed Bookmarklet, you can have the highlight text and photo posted, so will only need 1 click.
- Stuart Miniman
Stuart, the FriendFeed beta shows you how many characters you have typed if you check "Cc: Twitter" that appears under the textbox. Hopefully they can add it to the bookmarklet too.
- Daniel Sims
WHY is there this size limit? how about 240? or, no limit. maybe display just 140, but only as a title. it might as well be unlimited. it should .. why not? not enough "space" ? or electrons?
- Petr Buben
Twitter has the size limit because of SMS. SMS allows 160 characters, so your tweet is limited to 140 leaving twitter w/ 20 to add your username. The 140 limit has now become twitter's defining characteristic, so I doubt they will ever change it.
- Daniel Sims
Petr, on those occasions when you feel you need to use more than 140 characters, you can use Twordy http://www.twordy.com It lets you post as many characters as you want.
- Sharon McPherson
I don't like the character count in friendfeed. They need to change it so that the tweets don't get truncated. You can't use 140 characters in friendfeed if you want to post it on Twitter. Only 120 characters. I also want friendfeed to shortening the URL automatically when using the share feature.

I am cool enough, Akiva, but couldn't remember a single good reference from it. The monkey in question was only on this show once. Trying to think of another clue that won't give much away.
- Alex Scoble
Alex, I was just kidding, man. You ARE cool enough for BJ & the Bear. You ARE!
- Akiva Moskovitz
It was a show that was on the air for most of the 80s and in to the early 90s.
- Alex Scoble
Man, I am totally puzzled over this one but I'm percolating madly.
- Akiva Moskovitz
I used to love that show. Absolutely love it.
- Akiva Moskovitz
The monkey would talk by using gestures that were not ASL. In this case it broke a pencil, pointed up, pounded on a hard surface and picked up a voodoo doll. Harry Anderson said the line.
- Alex Scoble
Actually it was the sudden remembering of Judge Stone's love of puns that connected the improbability of the situation with your exaggerated use of quotations around the phrase 'legal procedural' (along with the provided timeline, of course (although I forgot that Night Court went into the 90s (feel free to ignore this aside (and this one too (and me!)))) that gave me the answer.

I miss the days when Usenet was the center of the Internet, when there were more .edu, .gov, and .mil addresses than .com, .net, or .org. You could post a question and quickly get back a set of thoughtful responses from smart, educated people. Kind of like FriendFeed. Weird.
- Akiva Moskovitz
Now that I think about it, though, Usenet was a way scarier place than Friendfeed. Noobs who posted without reading the FAQ got flamed until they were reduced to tears or until they ended up invoking Hitler.
- Victor Ganata
Victor, that's true but most new people that I knew of, including myself, pored over the FAQs when transitioning from lurker to poster. These days? Not a chance. Instead, you get a bunch of posts like, 'This is probably covered in the FAQ or whatever but...'
- Akiva Moskovitz
If Kibo and Serdar Argic show up on Twitter, then the resemblance will be complete.
- Morton Fox
So it's agreed then. We must therefore flame anyone who posts a question that's Googleable…
- Victor Ganata
Morton, I don't know how it's possible but I completely forgot about Kibo.
- Akiva Moskovitz
There is nothing new under the sun. The major topic on the early Usenet in 1982 was the prevalence of stupid Paddy O'Furniture jokes. The quality of online communication has not decreased, or increased, appreciably since then.
- John E. Bredehoft
from fftogo
Well, the number of people involved has increased by a few magnitudes of order. I guess what's surprising is that things are nonetheless still pretty similar.
- Victor Ganata
Annoyances are constant; it is only how they dress up that changes.

"Eric and I recently discovered a shared fascination with the slew of impossibly named NPR hosts we listen to every day: Renee Montagne, Steve Inskeep, Corey Flintoff, Korva Coleman, Kai Ryssdal, Dina Temple-Raston. In fact, we’ve often wondered what it would be like to be one of them. A Nina Totenberg or a Renita Jablonski. A David Kestenbaum or a Lakshmi Singh. Even (on our most ambitious days) a Cherry Glaser or a Sylvia Poggioli. So finally, after years of Fresh Air sign-off ambitions, we came up with a system for creating our own NPR Names. Here’s how it works: You take your middle initial and insert it somewhere into your first name. Then you add on the smallest foreign town you’ve ever visited."

Southern Most Community in Tasmania - next stop is Antarctic research stations! - I was lucky enough to pop over to Hobart and then drive down before taking a short walk through part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area while I was on a work project in Melbourne. While it once sported a couple thousand people, I'd venture there are less than 50 year round residents now. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...

I must have an "affinity" for places by the sea as the next up my list would have seen me reporting as Dahvid Cape Agulhas (southern most point of Africa) [Edit: just looked it up: Cape Agulhas is the name of the District Municipality of about a dozen towns with total pop- ~ 25,000 over 8,800 sq km.while the small town right on the cape is Agulhas or L'Aguhlas in Portugese) ... so I'll change to Dahvid L'Agulhas]

I will be keeping Blue Ray. It's not overrated for me. Watch Now is nice, but a poor excuse for a home theater experience.

I really couldn't go back to SD where BluRay is available.

Maybe this is the way they will get the picture that not all consumers are ready for there price jump.

I have so many options for streaming and time-shifting movies in HD, I'm not even sure I want a Blu-Ray player.
- Rob Haas
Did the same yesterday, don't feel it is worth an extra $24 a year.....
- Joe
Blu-Ray is incredible if you have a good, large display. The problem for me is that the library is still small. So for now I rent the Blu-Rays I want from Blockbuster.
- Kevin
I did the same and will do what Brian suggests. Upgrade for a month, watch a bunch of 2nd tier Blu-Ray movies. The real blockbusters I purchase for my collection anyway.
- Pete Smith
$6 seems totally reasonable for unlimited renting access to such higher quality films. I don't have Netflix because we don't watch that many to begin with (renting one or two films a month in iTunes HD with Apple TV is enough). But if we did have Netflix, I'd be all over this.
- David Chartier
My rational is, the price has dropped so many times since I signed up, this maybe puts me back at my original subscription rate.
