the article doesn't quite match the headline tho' (in terms of it being real vuln). it is a pretty n00b user problem. but then again n00bs are normally the ones who get caught. - David Pascoe
lol, I drew this when Diana was pregnant with Ryan... and I just received a message on flickr asking if it could be used in a non-profit journal on childbirth information! They want to use it on the cover! lol lol lol - Nick Takayama via Bookmarklet
drew it during class, you should add :) - David Pascoe
i don't want to seem too much like the delinquent that I am. :) - Nick Takayama
hehehe... nice. L33t coder, photog and now ... illustrator! - Zan Aung
lol, so they ended up asking me if I could redraw it on plain paper to make it work better for print. I did just so and emailed it off. It should be in the december edition of their journal. :) Doulas, midwives and whatnot around the world will be totally impressed by my artistic skills. - Nick Takayama
Have you asked for a copy to be sent to you? :) - Zan Aung
One developer we consulted about the issue noted, "consumers are being scammed by [PC] OEMs on a large scale. OEMs will encourage customers to upgrade a 2GB machine to 4GB, even though the usable RAM might be limited to 2.3GB. This is especially a problem on high-end gaming machines that have huge graphics cards as well as lots of RAM."
"Microsoft even changed the way the OS reports the amount of RAM available; rumor is, due to pressure from OEMs," the developer told us. "In Vista and prior, it reported usable RAM, while in SP1 they changed it to report installed RAM ignoring the fact that much of the RAM was unusable due to overlap with video memory." And so many PC users are installing 4GB of RAM in their PCs and thinking that it is being used by the system, when in fact it is no more beneficial than if the RAM were simply poked halfway into the CD slot. - Nick Takayama via Bookmarklet
did you groan when you saw that it isn't available on the mac ? - David Pascoe
my first thought was that this is just a geek browser, so will only firstly steal FF users. It will take years to get onto people's desktop and mobile devices. - David Pascoe
I did cry for a few minutes, and then when I saw that it was running WebKit I consoled myself with the thought that I'm already running part of it. - Nick Takayama
I also think that by itself it is just a geek browser. But it depends on how much google is willing to push it. If they want to play monopoly then they can advertise it on the google homepage as 'your browser is slow, insecure and crappy... download Chrome, from Google'... or they can start adding features into Google Gears that will make GMail, GoogleDocs, etc a far more compelling option if used with Chrome (or other browsers if you install Gears) - Nick Takayama
I wonder who would win between Windows Update and Google home page malware protector download - David Pascoe
I find FF clunky and Opera never quite renders google's sites correctly so for me Chrome seems like a good idea for assimilation into the gborg. At least I'll know that the majority of sites will render well. - David Pascoe
I like the fact that they've 'checked' the rendering against 99% of the most frequently visited sites - Nick Takayama
and the comic was way cool, like I totally wanted to buy one at the end. - David Pascoe
I wonder what the difference it between the most visited sites that are bookmarked compared to those which google direct. Google are assuming that they are the first click. - David Pascoe
were you pleased to see them using Opera's speed-dial idea? :) - Nick Takayama
lots of features from opera are making it into FF and Chrome - I spose thats good. - David Pascoe
anyway, let me know how Chrome works for you... - Nick Takayama
still gotta wait until tomorrow I think. - David Pascoe
Looks like the Chrome webkit version is newer than the one used in Safari (windows). CSS rounded corners get displayed correctly. - Zan Aung via Alert Thingy
I like the task manager they have. Shows how bloated my webapp is :P - Zan Aung
my first impression is I likey ! seems slick and more like how we actually use the web. looks gorgeous with the aero transparency. - David Pascoe
actually zano, i saw a link this morning about how the css rounded corners are not as good in Chrome as in Safari? Well, as long as they're in there. :) - Nick Takayama
it still doesn't work on my macs here in the office :P - Nick Takayama
oh i know... i'll download to our windows virtual machine - Nick Takayama
Yeah the rounded corners aren't as smooth as what I get on iPhone Safari. But at least they are there :) It is slick, and so far the memory usage seems lower than my other browsers. - Zan Aung
"Chrome and IE8 are far more advanced than Apple’s Safari. Safari is speedy on both Mac and Windows platforms, but lacks many of the key intelligent features of its newer Google and Microsoft rivals." Apple evangelist Mossberg says. - David Pascoe
I can see Opera losing desktop market share here too. - David Pascoe
not sure what the intelligent features are that mossberg is talking about? - Nick Takayama
Well for one thing.. I do like the url box (Omni box or whatever). The search option in there is nice, just makes the window cleaner. - Zan Aung
the browser string is "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.13 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/0.2.149.27 Safari/525.13" so there will be more safari bread crumbs out there now. - David Pascoe
Funny that is has both mozilla and webkit (mozilla for the UI, ostensibly, and Webkit for the renderer)... interesting. I tested it out on windows and it looked fine. I didn't check, but does it support folders in the bookmark bar? That's my favorite Safari feature... - Nick Takayama
yes folders in bookmarks are there. gmail is definitely faster for me which is niiiiice. - David Pascoe
well, i'll either patiently wait for Chrome, or look to see their code stolen into use for WebKit/Safari :) - Nick Takayama
google calendar has some troubles rendering - if you resize the window you need to select and de-select a calendar to redraw properly. - David Pascoe
