Good video which explains so well in simple terms what is filltration, reabsorption, and secretion. Renal physiology was covered on recent #BS1006 lectures - Nursultan
Oxygen regulation of the epithelial Na channel in the collecting duct - http://ajprenal.physiology.org/content...
This article is related to the renal physiology lectures on #BS1006. The article investigates the effect of Oxygen pressure on Na channels which mediate Na transport in collecting duct of the nephron. - Nursultan
do we decide to write an essay or participate on debates on #BS1008 ourselves? Have we been allocated to groups of students who writes an essay or debates?
have decided to do C400 Biological Sciences (Genetics) for Year 2 and 3. Hopefully I will succeed on this field of science.
#My diary 24/03/2011
This week is really good. I have finished my #BS1006 practical question book and submitted answers on #BS1008 practical. Actually, practical classes on #BS1006 and #BS1008 are much easier than they were on #BS1005, #BS1009 and #BS1013.We have started Chris Lane’s lectures on #BS1008 and I have finished my# BS 1011 assignment. As for #BS1011, it became much tougher to complete assignments. However, these assignments made me very familiar with MS Excel Geek so now I can handle it quite well)). A lot of work is going to be done on holidays as we have 5 modules to study. We almost finished our Year 1 and I think that Biological Sciences course is one of the most difficult courses in university as I compare with courses that my friends do. They always relaxed and happy doing nothing at all at their courses)) - Nursultan
Mimicry: The nefarious cuckoo - http://whyevolutionistrue.wordpress.com/2011...
This is good supplementary material for #BS1008 lectures on Mimicry. The article explains the phenomenon of brood parasitism which can be observed in cuckoos. - Nursultan
Really enjoyed today's practical on #BS1006! it was very interesting because we actually did something that we can see and actively participated as subject of the experiment)
It was really interesting particularly the electric shocks =) - Khetase Chiwowa
Mimicry: polymorphism for camouflage in a caterpillar - http://whyevolutionistrue.wordpress.com/2011...
This study published by Erick Greene in 1989 shows how caterpillar's camouflage. This article might be a supllementary material to the todays lecture on #BS1008 where mimicry was mentioned. This case is particularly interesting because caterpillar changes its camouflage depending on the season of the year. Have a look at great pictures as well. - Nursultan
Ultra-Darwinists and the pious gene | Mark Vernon - http://www.guardian.co.uk/comment...
Interesting supplementary material to the #BS1008 lectures about evolution and Darwin's theory. - Nursultan
This article made me think about evolution theory. I do not believe that we evolved from primates. I agree that changes inevitably occur with all kinds of living things due to adaptation to various environment. Even twins have some difference,at least fingerprints. But I don't think that this changes lead to conversion to different species or genus. For instance, insects probably the... more... - Nursultan
In order to suggest conjecture such as the formulation that people didn't evolve from primates, you have to provide evidence or at least reference to research that supports that view. Science is not a matter of opinion, but a matter of fact. - Alex G. Sarov
#My diary 10/03/2011
I am enjoying this week, because it much more easier than previous one.) Now I have more free time, and I will use it to recap previous modules, revise them. New modules are interesting and exciting. They are completely different from previous ones. New modules motivate me as I perceive them like a new challenge! In addtion, I have my first practical on #BS1008 tomorrow and it seems a bit different from usual practicals due to use of computers..) - Nursultan
Hi everybody, Can anybody help me with Practical report 4 on #BS1005! How come that according to photograph Plasmid 2 with restriction enzymes EcoRI and Pstl (2EP, position 13) & BamHI and Pstl (2BP, position 14) have three fragments while having only two restiction enzymes each??? How two restriction enzymes made three fragments?
#MyDiary 18/02/2011
This week was very exciting and stressful as well. It is because I have started my essays and realised that I have only 2 weeks to finish all of them :(....this weekends are going to be very busy. I have noticed that #BS1009 lectures became more interesting than they were in the begining of term. Some pathogens actually harmful! However I didn't like the slides about Syphilis...they were disgusting... - Nursultan
Genome organization in and around the nucleolus. - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez...
This article would be interesting for those who wants to get more knowledge about genome organisation. This article is a good additional material to the genome topic which we had on #BS1005 - Nursultan

This article is about new technologies and special gene sequencing machines that help to read genome of any organism faster than today. Related to both #BS1005 and #BS1009. - Nursultan
#My Diary 8/2/2011
The first week is over, and the best thing for me is that there is no chemistry at all in this term. I don’t know why, but I always struggle with any chemistry. In addition, we now have Genes #BS1005 module which I really like, as I want to do Genetics). The bottom line is that we have 3 practical sessions per week. This is very difficult, but we have to get used to it. Moreover, I never wrote Lab reports, so I was struggling a bit while doing it for #BS1013. However, I like all new modules and practicals, because this course is my choice so I have to study))). - Nursultan

Hi everybody! I've heard that we will have 4 questions in exam on #CH1070 and that we have to answer to only 3 questions, not 4. Am i right?
Yes. Just checked on the #CH1070 page on Bb and it says: "January: 75% of module credit. Usual format is four Questions; answer any three out of the four questions in two hours, two questions are on the topic 'organic chemistry'." - Zainab Chaudhary
Hi everybody!! Hope all of you enjoy revision time!! I have a question: What is a difference between Alpha Helix and DNA Helix?
#BS1015 exam wasn't as much difficult as #CH1070 exam..)) I did it better than #CH1070..))
Hi, everybody!! Do anybody know how many questions are there going to be in tomorrow's #BS1015 exam?
~25 it says in Blackboard. - Zainab Chaudhary

#FridayReflection What is the most important thing I have learnt this term?
Firstly, I have realized that the first yea at the university is not so as easy as I thought it would be! Secondly, I have learned how time management is important to be a successful student. At the university, it is your choice how to deal with your study, so it is quite difficult to organize your time effectively. Hope I will improve this skill in future! And the last point is practical classes that we have. Practicals are very useful and interesting, these classes expand your general knowledge about subject so I find them very helpful. In addition, it is significant to gain some lab experience that can help you in your future work! - Nursultan
Just learned my feedback for essay about biochemical importance of water which we did on #BS1015! I have got 68%. I am wondering did anybody get more than 70%?
