I'm a huge fan of WP and have really liked bbpress too on the few chances I've had to use it, but I've always felt there was still a disconnect happening between the blog and the forum in places where it was used. So, to me having a bbpress plugin seems like the perfect solution to that.

See the six strategies an online guitar accessory retailer used to create product demonstration videos and share that content with blogs, video sharing sites and other third parties. The strategy captures 65,000 video views a day, and has doubled annual sales.

Rupert Murdoch vows to take all of Newscorp's websites out of Google, abolish fair use, tear heads off of adorable baby animals - http://www.boingboing.net/2009...
Certainly the model can work, but I highly doubt it will for any of Newscorp's properties; which is why I'm hoping they move fast on doing it :)

He asks if massive content sites gaining momentum is "cause for concern about the future of the Web?" - my thinking on this is it's cause for rejoicing. Regardless if you're building your site(s) for fun or profit, the point is constant and quality content creation should ultimately be rewarded.

The sad reality of human nature, eventually there's going to be an over-reaching. Hunting squads to track down terrorists is a viable and defensible idea; using the same tactics to go after any and all other types of targets is about as un-American as anything I can think of.

It really surprises me that many of the blue states are "hold outs" on this, surely they understand that every small step made to ease accessibility to voting trends in favor of the Democratic party? Not posting this information in an easy to aggregate and use manner is like knowing the winning numbers of tomorrow's daily lottery but not bothering to buy a ticket???

Just when I thought Republicans, Lobbyists and other gunslinger operatives had exhausted their bag-o-tricks fear mongering against healthcare reform, it seems they found one more "almost... just about... I suppose it could be in Bazarro-Land" conspiracy theory to throw out there. All that's left now is for them to discover the "secret code" within the legislation that details how Democrats want to legalize eating children in Elitist rituals at Intellectual alters.

It's about time someone reminds ol' Joe that he's enjoying a nice position at the courtesy of Dems, and that can change on a moment's notice if he strays too far.

We're bombing the moon!!! We really are a war loving people, huh... sure, we're chasing water there, like we were chasing WMD's in Iraq? I think we just like blowing crap up with expensive toys.

Uh, where's the regulations on banks and Wall street to protect us from future meltdowns? Shouldn't that be a higher priority than legislating stay-at-home Mommy/Daddy-bloggers earning a few dollars or getting a free CD now and then for endorsements? An interesting side-note to this is I just spoke with a friend who runs multiple adult entertainment blogs, and he said he believes "Joe Schmoe with a car review blog" is in more danger than he is from Feds. Not sure if that's accurate or not, but it's an interesting point to ponder.

Inspirational post, one thing I'd add is if you decide to create an eBook it doesn't have to be a related companion to your blog niche. I came across a non-political quick-wit humor eBook from a political blogger once, now I don't agree with a single thing that person blogs about, but found his eBook so darn funny that I became a regular visitor (and participant) at the blog anyway.

When I look at some of my favorite blogs and sites I often get the feeling that RSS is the most underused tool they feature, this should be helpful to some on that.

Well said, the "social web" may sometimes seem like an "it's all about me" playground, and that's fine for individuals, but never a position or track businesses should take. It becomes obnoxious very fast when they do.

As open source applications gain mainstream ground and computing continues to become more personalized for individuals and businesses it's a good idea (and lots of fun) to learn at least a little programming. For those who learn better from being shown than they do from books this is a great service.

The poll results make sense if you see blogging as a part of the social web culture, where personalization and self expression are as important to most users as core functionality is.

Gee, I wanted to see this but wtae is using some strange video format that requires another plugin be installed on my computer? #fail -- lesson: don't make customers (visitors) jump through hoops for what you should make easy for them.
- Scott Bannon
Good idea here, too many writers/bloggers are getting sucked into the "it's all about me" trap, especially if they engage in social media networks. Sometimes it's better to make it just about the project, venue and writing.

It would be easy to poke a witty comment about this story and the RNC, but really it's just sad... how sad they've become. As a believer in the idea that multiple strong parties makes for a stronger nation, I long for something to respect from the party of Lincoln.

There's lots of revenue models bloggers can look to print media for, and vice versa. They key online--in my opinion--is to make each modular and incorporate multiple modules into your overall revenue strategy. There's simply no 'one size fits all' path online.

This may one day be an additional pillar behind a much more open web and computing experience. Which is a great thing imho. I've never minded paying for tools, services or even content that benefits me, but I despise paying for something that I still have no control over and can't tweak to my exact needs. I believe that Open Source projects and developers who understand that mentality are going to rule the world soon.

Since I'm forever breaking every single thing I do down into a micro-process, either for my own use or so that I can more easily outsource it, this looks like it might be a great option for taking my diagram making into the cloud.

Commercial Open Source is a best of both worlds for programmers, cubicle or freelance--and for end users. Why it has taken so long to gain ground astonishes me, but I see it as a major growth area for opportunities to coders and entrepreneurs in the coming years.

This is the epitome of "the more things change, the more they stay the same". We the people don't need pretty bells and whistles, just a functional site with accurate data and a rational navigation system. That could be done for a lot less taxpayer's dollars.

"I'd add that commercial open source applications are gaining ground in many areas, and can lead to the creation of jobs just as proprietary software does--without forcing poorly designed systems that can't be modified and customized for optimal productivity on anybody."
