I haven't used HelloTxt, but from first impressions of the webpage it doesn't look quite as nuanced as ping.fm - seems more about status updates only. Ping.fm allows blog and microblog posting as well and I like the flexibility. Having said that, there's nothing wrong with doing one thing well.
- David Young
Sounds pretty even right now. Someone should post a feature comparison grid!
- Glenn Batuyong
Hello.txt with SMS gateway; while Ping.fm with IM support. Hello.txt is two way (at least on the web interface); while Ping.fm could only send messages, not receiving.
- Jansen Lu
I'm trying to get SMS working at hellotxt, but it rejects saying that I'm not sending to a "vaild 10 digit code" - ideas anyone?
- Steve Isaacs
Thanks for the updates, everyone. Does either service work well with Blackberry?
- Ryne Nelson
would anyone use Hellotxt as a two-way communication tool? or just treating it as a message broadcaster?
- Jansen Lu
HelloTxt: nicer interface and more services supported, though I tend to use both 'cos I'm a nerd ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
@Kol my Ping.fm's interface is very clean and neat, 'coz it's only the gtalk conversation windows :P
- Jansen Lu
I'm leaning toward TelloText though I haven't really given Ping.fm a fair shot.
- Kimberly J
I use Ping.fm and I like it better because they keep adding great new innovative features. And you can use it with many different applications like Twirl, Spaz, etc.
- Guitarguy234
Ok, so what is the term for FriendFeed Post Necromancy? Because this is the poster child for it.
- Justin Whitaker
Roko and Delfino gone. Amir Johnson in? In a reversal of tradition, the Raptors are pretty deep with the bigs - but are short on the 2 and 3 spots.
- Jed
Bad move for the Raps. Johnson no longer has the "limitless" potential. He is what he is: a bench player.
- Ryne Nelson
I agree Ryne -- it sounded like Delfino wanted to come back, no? Why not keep him?
- Shey, Jamaican of FF
Delfino wanted a significant role on the team. Turkoglu's signing, and the apparent readiness of DeRozan - combined with all the guard pickups would really limit his minutes. Colangelo would have been paying 5 mill, for a guy to play 10 minutes a game.
- Jed
Though I agree that a Delfino on that lineup would have looked better. I think letting Roko go, could hurt them in the long run. And Johnson probably wont see much playing time anyway - this just seems to be more of a money move.
- Jed

Thanks. But does Seattle truly care about the NBA? It seemed like a small minority of residents and basketball fans from other parts of the country made the most fuss about the relocation.
- Ryne Nelson
I don't normally link to SLAMonline, but I think it's the best place to go if you want to watch the Top 100 dunks from last season. ;)

oops...sorry Ryne didn't realize you had already linked this and I ended up sharing the youtube vids individually

It is being reported that league sources have confirmed the Golden State Warriors have agreed to trade Marco Belinelli to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Devean George.
- Jed
from Bookmarklet
Golden State must have really not liked Belinelli to give him up so easily. But yeah, if this doesn't make the Raptors an unofficial Euroleague team, I'm sure Colangelo has another European in the cards - I'm hoping it's Delfino. The Raps are lacking in the three.
- Jed
The dunk really isn't very impressive. This goes to show that hiding it makes it a much bigger deal than just showing it.
- Shawn Kirsch
from Bookmarklet
Well, not terrible. It's clear, though, that Bron was playing at half-speed. If this was an NBA game, Crawford wouldn't have even gotten into the lane.
- Ryne Nelson
they definitely made a mistake trying to quash it, I think it's impressive tho, some 6'4 college kid versus (even if out of shape after surgery) the 6 '8 nba superstar is a pretty nice yank, and it was squarely on him.
- Richard Lawler
It is ok. He did get dunked on though. No lie about that. half speed or full speed.
- Amani
Half speed, full speed, doesn't matter, wasn't that impressive. He curled around, drove the lane and dunked. He didn't throw it off the board first (a la T-Mac), he didn't jump over a 7' french guy (a la VC), he just went up strong and dunked (a la 60% of the pros).
- Shawn Kirsch
shawn is that a joke? what were you expecting? It was a dunk on someone. You go "ooooh" and move on. Jumping over a 7-footer ingame is like a once in a generation moment.
- Richard Lawler
I wasn't expecting anything grand, it wasn't even an ooooh worthy dunk. Everybody made it out to be such a huge deal because we couldn't see it, hyping it up. That is not an impressive dunk, even I can do a dunk like that.
- Shawn Kirsch
and if you did it on a max contract NBA player in a game I'd be interested in seeing it.
- Richard Lawler
That's what makes it so unimpressive to me. It's a higher level of competition than I've played on, and it's such a basic dunk (which is usually the best way to go). He had plenty of space/time to do something ridiculous, but just went simple.
- Shawn Kirsch
Lebron or Nike or both definitely overreacted.
- Andrew C
Just saying, was it a big deal when someone dunked on MJ, Magic or Bird?
- Joel Robert Perez
How much longer? Too bad the only video was shot on an underwater webcam by Mr. ShakyHands sitting behind the worlds dirtiest window himself.
- Will Higgins™
Haha. How does TMZ do it? PS: Nike dropped the ball by not releasing the video itself.
- Ryne Nelson
It should have been a commercial airing within the next week
- Richard Lawler
"Houston Rockets center Yao Ming has elected to have extensive surgery on his fractured left foot that almost certainly eliminates his chances of playing next season but offers hope that he can resume his NBA career and not fracture the foot a career-ending third time. Yao Yao After consultation with a battery of doctors, Yao, 28, has decided to undergo a bone graft to heal the existing fracture and have his arch surgically lowered to reduce the stress on his foot. Cavaliers center Zydrunas Ilgauskas had a fracture in the same part of the foot, had a similar combination of surgeries and has played the last eight seasons without suffering another fracture."
- Dan Hsiao
from Bookmarklet
Eh, if it means he can still have a career then sweet. You see how well it's worked out for Big Z, he had the same problems, but since the surgery, he's been good.
- Richard Lawler
A temporary fix? For someone who's so prone to injury this just spells more trouble. Heal the foot completely first!
- KyNam Doan
Oh, he shoulda pushed for his own sneaker.
- Ryne Nelson
Weird... I mean, Nike bought Converse years ago (I think before Wade ever signed with them), so in some sense he's still under the same corporate umbrella.
- Andrew C
In some sense, yes. But Jordan is it's own company now... sort of like how Converse operates under Nike.
- Ryne Nelson
Childress, 26, was a restricted free agent when he left for a three-year, $20 million deal with Olympiakos last summer. There is an opt-out clause for each season, and his representatives were in talks with the Hawks -- who still own Childress' NBA rights -- about working out a sign-and-trade deal, according to the report.

I doubt that he'll be the only midlevel player we ever see leave in his prime, but despite the silly rumors, a top tier player will not in the foreseeable future, exit the NBA while he can still play.
- Richard Lawler
Richard hit it on the head. No all-star caliber guy will be going overseas in the near future.
- Ryne Nelson
According to the report, the Bulls have been involved with the Utah Jazz and Portland Trail Blazers in talks about a three-way deal that would land the Bulls power forward Carlos Boozer and send guard Kirk Hinrich to Portland and forward Tyrus Thomas to Utah.

Am I the only Raptors fan who doesn't see Bosh's leaving as completely negative? Of course I hope they get something in return if that is the case.
- Jed
from iPhone
I totally agree with both of you. I'm wondering how seriously Colangelo is considering moving Bosh before his hands are tied? Turkoglu is a great signing just because he's versatile enough to contribute on any kind of team (with or without a Bosh in the lineup).
- Jed
Jed, good point. I think the Raps are laughing at any proposals for Bosh right now. They just signed Turkoglu for goodenss sakes. They're not about to give up...
- Ryne Nelson
Not happening my friends. By the way, it's a good thing I didn't post the five-minute ESPN interview with this kid from this morning. Sheeh!
- Ryne Nelson
Smart move by LeBron. He will take a reputation hit for a couple days but better than to let a video of him getting owned
- beersage
@Beersage ...true, but I'd argue, this is a little tempest-in-a-teapot brewing here: first we have him storming off the court, not talking to anyone after the Magic booted his team from the playoffs -- i.e. sore loser; now this. It's just two incidents, but every illness starts with a single cell getting infected, and then it spreads. maybe, LeBron is just a human, and like everyone else, he can get got on some days.

So, ummm, Memphis trades away Buckner, gets a future 2nd round pick, some cash considerations, and a likely to be cut Stackhouse. Once again, the Grizzlies come through with a gift, helping someone else in the west get better. Way to go Grizz.

it must be part of the API, since fftogo seems to include a time stamp on the comments
- Trent Olson
I'm sure they do store the timestamp, even if it isn't currently displayed.
- Mack D. Male
Yeah, it's in the api, all comments & likes are timestamped
- Glenn Slaven
I think this is a perfect plan. The only issue I might have is that the time information might take-over the conversations. It might just look more cluttered than FF already is.
- Ryne Nelson
concur, very useful to have. Make it a display option. Those who would think it's clutter can turn it off then.
- Alexander Falk
It is in the API (I use them in fftogo). I vote that the timestamp should appear as text when you hover over the "thought bubble" to the left.
- Benjamin Golub
All comments are time-stamped in AlrertThingy and feedalizr
- Stephen B
from Alert Thingy
What about a comment alert?! How do you follow conversations on ff!?
- TommaSorchiotti
Not sure if this will add to the functionality, but should be something they can try out...
- Dennis Goedegebuure
Not sure a comment alert is necessary. Comments bring the post up to the top of the timeline, which makes it available for anyone who is currently paying attention to Friendfeed. (Not sure why anyone would want their attention brought to Friendfeed if it isn't already there, that would be a huge productivity drain).
- Jason Wehmhoener
Please, please remember that the whole world doesn't run on PDT. I don't want to see timestamps in my FF in gReader and have to always try to guess whether the west coast is 17, 16, or 15 hours behind. If you must display timestamps, please put them in GMT. Setting the timestamps on my FF page/in my FF feed to be correct in my local timezone would be even nicer.
- James Polley
yeah ! and a hide fonction for each comment
- Jonathan
we know which came first... but in n argument the comments can edit. that makes time stamping very important so we know when someone made a change
- Noah David Simon
a timeline function in general would be nice, make everything more timeframe friendly
- Ruben Llibre
Show times either in GMT or in my own timezone, and just make it a tooltip for the quote balloon or something. Don't want it to look cluttered.
- Pat Hawks
just make the time relative from each comment, so I know who said what when in perspective. like 5 minutes later Noah David Simon said. <--this opens up
- Noah David Simon
Is i really important to know when every single comment is made? Only the last one would really be useful, could have 'last comment on june 1 at..." right beside the date of the post.
- John Duff
If the timestamp is a tooltip, then it isn't really "in the way." Maybe we can have all the timestamps as tooltips, except the most recent comment will have the timestamp printed out below it, like John said.
- Rishabh Mishra (p248)
I am so tired of entering an empty room and talking to myself for twenty minutes. lol
- Russellreno
A needed feature for sure I agree. I suggested this to the FF feedback room some weeks ago.
- Mike Fruchter
<--- try hover your mouse cursor on that little dialog icon
- topo
Sorry it's not more obvious, but if you hover your mouse over the comment icon you will see the time that the comment was made. Thanks for letting us know that it's hard to find! The feedback is much appreciated.
- Ross Miller
I believe they are timestamped but this data is not yet displayed.... you're right !
- David Berrebi
other than timestamp I also want to be able to like the comments individually =]
- Özgür D. Cyric

Too bad no one was able to get out of there with footage. Can you imagine how much it would be worth?
- Bryan R. Adams
That was exactly my thought -- If I was taping the game, I'd be outta there in a second, and making copies! ;) Apparently Nike reps worked quick, though. They took the videos in less than 15 minutes. Ryne
- Ryne Nelson

I would have never thought to get out of there after I shot the stuff. It wouldn't have been a big deal in my mind. But since they have confiscated the tapes, it must have been a vicious one-hander.

There had to be a dude with their cellphone or flipcam who got the footage.
