The One Dollar Project
The One Dollar Project is a simple idea which aims to raise money for children. Start a thread by asking for ONE dollar, and if someone accepts to give, tell him/her to give it to a charity org. (children's ones for eg.) Please report back the donation (with a link to the thread you started here so we can see how much we made). People are nice by default :)

Folks, I'll be honnest. I'm not the best when it comes to patience :) I confess it hurts me to see so much indifference on friendfeed. Dunno, maube people think that I'm selling something -- I swear, I don't, not even a brand or a product-- I must be a lil bit emotional maybe. Anyway, I'd really like some help for this.

I got change4change.net up and running Thursday/Friday and now I'm just trying to think of how to get people to sign up and get involved. From a social media perspective, it's built on an open source social network engine called Elgg and I thought that would be a way to get people interested.

Great news Tina! :) I'm working on a desktop app that will be available for linux, windows, and mac. A kind of "toy" (FF-O-meter) for friendfeeders. It will be a free charityware. Let's hope it can bring some bucks :)

http://charitywatch.org/ lists top rated charities according to the American Institute of Philanthropy. Charities are grouped by cause, which makes it easy to find one to donate to.

I should also add that Unitus specializes in micro-credit giving, something perfect for the one dollar project

Unitus is interesting. Micro-financing is a good way to channel resources and is not paternalistic unlike other approaches in charity work; for me that is always a big plus. Just my personal opinion; at the end help is help. I'll read more about it. Thanks for the pointer Jesse!

Steve, I'm happy to talk about easy and painless ways to give if you think that'd help. I've been doing the change thing for a while: started with coins, then added ones, and added fives this January.

This is a great start. Want to give a little background on what we are working on. The idea of a Kiva is to encourage social entrepreneurship.
