United Way - Uncle CW™
Planned Parenthood - Uncle CW™
Your local homeless shelter or animal shelter - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
http://www.donorschoose.org - My wife as a teacher uses this to get her class's projects funded. - Uncle CW™

Nice idea Andrés, JMS has also posted some links of online charity. JMS can you please post 'em again in this thread? :) - directeur from NoiseRiver
http://charitywatch.org/ lists top rated charities according to the American Institute of Philanthropy. Charities are grouped by cause, which makes it easy to find one to donate to. - Bec Rowe @d0tski
I'd recommend the list Bec provided. Much more there. -
That is a great resource! Thanks Bec! I'll look for other types of organizations that may benefit and let you know later. - Andrés David Aparicio
I'm going to contact someone at my company who has a list of philanthropic websites and contacts. If all else fails, just check care2.com - Terence
Globalgiving.com - Terence
http://www.unitus.com/ - let me know if you want me to introduce you to my Uncle, one of the founders. Dave McClure is also on their Board. - Jesse Stay
I should also add that Unitus specializes in micro-credit giving, something perfect for the one dollar project - Jesse Stay
Unitus is interesting. Micro-financing is a good way to channel resources and is not paternalistic unlike other approaches in charity work; for me that is always a big plus. Just my personal opinion; at the end help is help. I'll read more about it. Thanks for the pointer Jesse! - Andrés David Aparicio
