(BLOG) RED: 2 million people.
20 hours ago - via Bookmarklet - Link
"2 milion people. That’s the total number of people in Africa who are alive today thanks to anti-retroviral medication—just two pills a day that can keep a person with HIV alive and healthy. 2 million people. That’s about equal to the entire population of Houston, Texas. Imagine being part of a movement that could bring 2 million people back from the brink of death so that they could live and work and take care of their families. Well, if you’re (RED), you are. All (RED) money goes directly to the Global Fund to help distribute those two little pills. And it’s working." - Oliver Ding via Bookmarklet

"We have blogged before about Deloitte’s Women’s Initiative Network (WIN) blog pioneered by Cathy Benko who went public in January 2007 and wrote heart-warming, insightful, tell-it-like-it-is posts, many times going against the corporate grain. Her veracity and everyday humor added color and perspective to what professional women face at Deloitte and perhaps at other organizations. Most of all she had courage, and wasn’t afraid to say what was on her mind. See http://bigfouralumni.blogspot.... In February 2008, the torch has been passed onto Barbara Adachi of Deloitte LLP to carry on….Barbara calls Cathy the “Dorothy traveling down the yellow brick road to success”. Cathy will be missed (though she still posts internally we believe) and we look to Barbara to have her own style but the same courage and honesty we have seen before. See the new entries at http://www.deloitte.com/dtt/se... Kudos to Deloitte for bein" - Oliver Ding via Bookmarklet

"Nike Japan, the Japanese subsidiary of sportswear multinational Nike, will turn a public park in central Tokyo (Shibuya Ward), Miyashita Park [宮下公園], into what they call “Nike Park” [ja]. The naming rights have already been acquired from the Ward for about 150 million Yen, which will be paid over the next 5 years, and the go-ahead for the work was given last August. Investing about 450 million Yen toward renewal of the park, Nike will provide leisure facilities such as a skate-board ground and a café, in addition to the already existing two futsal grounds. The tendency to give brand names to facilities such as stadiums and town halls is not new in Japan; other examples include for instance CC Lemon Hall [ja], Nissan Stadium [ja] and Ajinomoto Stadium [ja]. However, in the case of Miyashita Park, the acquisition of the naming right of a public space by a controversial apparel company like Nike appears to have roused indignation among some Shibuya Ward residents and other citizens.
