"This incredible wall of shimmering silver fish was captured by stunned divers who had been exploring a reef in the Philippines. The spectacle is known as the 'sardine run', and occurs in the region every July. The vast shoal, which measured around 50ft wide, 50ft deep and 400ft long, was spotted off the coast of Pescador Island. The divers described its presence like a cloud as it swarmed around them, whipping up the water like a tornado before shooting off on their way. This photograph was snapped by American diver Erwin Poliakoff, who was on holiday with his wife and teenage son at the time." - Cee Bee from Bookmarklet
Mr Poliakoff, 54, said: 'We were diving on the reef, quite happily looking around at all the interesting fish, when suddenly everything went dark. 'It was like a cloud had fallen over us - at first I thought it was the sun going in. 'But within seconds I realised it was this huge mass of sardines swirling around us. 'They look like an impenetrable wall, but you could actually immerse... more... - Cee Bee
Alex Gerard, curator at Brighton Sealife Centre, said: 'The sardine run is all to do with breeding - the fish migrate to a better breeding ground with more food such as plankton. 'The odd thing is that they travel together for protection but the size of the run actually means they get decimated by predators. 'It creates a huge melting pot of dolphins, sharks, whales and seabirds all... more... - Cee Bee

Countries that are Least Affected by Recession - http://www.zee.me/blog...
country ranks on recession scale
yay Canada - Steven Hodson
If Aus, NZD and Canada were all so lightly affected, why have their exchange rates against the US dollar fallen so much in the last 8 months? (granted, they're coming back slowly, but so is the Dow) - Kevin Fox
But exchange rates aren't the whole picture, right. - Micah Wittman
why is South America considered a country? I read that, down here, Brazil and Chile are the countries in better shape. - Alejandro
Yay us! - Glenn Slaven
Micah: They're not. I just honestly want to know what caused the NZD to crash against the dollar last fall. Real estate over there was looking pretty darn attractive. - Kevin Fox
Hmm - I'd like to know too. We need an econ specialist over here stat! - Micah Wittman
Mhm... from what I see here in Colombia, things are MUCH worse in the States than here. MUCH MUCH worse. - Juan Pablo González
@Kevin: Canada's exchange rate met USD at par strictly on the strength of oil. When oil fell, so did CAD. - Andrew C
The AUD tends to be pegged to resource prices, which have taken a hit in the recession. - Toby Hede
Where's Norway? - Eivind
next to Sweden! - Andrew C
"The data is based on the results of a business confidence survey that was done on international business people of 24 nations to identify which countries they believe are surviving the crisis the best." - Not super impressed with the methodology. - Andrew C
Thanks, Andrew, I was getting all disoriented :) - Eivind
The AUD was also up last year because our high cash interest rate meant that there was a very attractive spread for currency speculators borrowing Yen or USD and buying AUD. - Warren
Blame Canada! - John Graham
John, LOL - Kirill Bolgarov
Blame the U.S.!! Us Canadians are just fine, thankyouverymuch ;) - Robert Couture
Not entirely true. Norway is not as much affected as Sweden. The Swedes are travelling to Norway to look for work now.... - Baard @ Pixum

YouTube Removes Time Limit on Videos
I was writing a YouTube post, and went to double check the limit sizes and time sizes on the upload page on YouTube, and noticed something incredible. The time limit is gone! - Jorge Escobar
This is nice. Somehow I wonder if there is some sort of catch to this. - Amani
about time! You previously had to be a "director" to get longer videos. I bet they are seeing some pressure from the smaller guys like viddler and vimeo who offer much higher quality and no time limits - Jonathan Greene from twhirl
Wow! This could mean great things for my live podcast. I can now just upload the video from Ustream instead of depending on the horrid playback of the Ustream service itself. - MarkCarras
Good show Youtube. Pun intended - Bwana ☠
This is fantastic! - Spyros Papaspyropoulos from twhirl
