I wrote about this same thing last year http://onehalfamazing.com/social-... Google understands that it’s not the particular site that drives users, but rather the connections, the relationships, the content and the tools that work in harmony with each other that makes a network more plentiful. They understand that you must build tools that work in succinct with the internet (and internet ready devices) as a whole. They understand the mistakes made before them.

"Yes, I totally understand where you're coming from. I too struggle with information overload, what I should pay attention to and what is important. Working in the tech industry it almost feels that if you're not connected all the time then you could miss a huge announcement which could in turn then jeopardize your status in the tech industry. I try to convince myself that it will be OK to mark all as read and move on, but its like a crack head waiting for his next hit. I'm conscience of what I'm doing, but I can't seem to pull away. Let me know if you come up with any good tips. Maybe we should make a tech-free weekend or day of the week and put the iPhone in the drawer for a while."

Cool concept, debuting a TV show on Facebook 1-month ahead of its TV schedule. NBC even decided that Facebook was more appropriate than their own site.

If I Could Only… Focusing on something you don’t have (but think you need) can be a dangerous, common pattern. The pattern is to identify something you lack and use that as an obstacle that prevents you from doing what you really want. With an obstacle identified, we feel better. No harm done, right? No harm except that nagging sense in the back of our brain that we really should be doing something differently. Not to worry: most people come to terms with it over time.

Interesting how YouTube is becoming more like Hulu, but still empowering the user to choose the ad they want to see. I like the concept, but not sure how much shelf life it has.

One of the best pieces of knowledge I got out of this was #2 - “Smaller type encourages focused viewing behavior…. larger type promotes lighter scanning”

"They are just doing what smart marketers do - they realize that their online (including social media) presence can't live on its own and needs to be supported through other channels. The one thing that's different is that they are creating greater engagement with the user more using these offline mediums. They are creating an experience; the thing they are known for. Great Ben Franklin quote - "I forward these thoughts to you somewhat unformed but want to get them in front of others because some ingenious soul may be able to refine them more quickly than I”.

"Wow, the Ben Franklin comment is really inspiring. Amazing how some of the same truths and leading thinkers of yesterday are still revolutionary. Thanks for sharing."

"Nice post Louis. I think we're at an important point right now in the eyes of the consumerist. We have equal (if not more) knowledge than the companies we're doing business with and we're becoming more value conscience. Companies know they must evolve, but as Victor pointed about above, many still don't get it. What do you think we push these companies over the edge? Do you feel that a majority of the population is still behind in terms of real-time?"

"I agree with you Victor. Do you think its the fault of the consumer for still supporting these companies? What do you think it will it take for the consumers' voice to be heard?"

Cool post on how Chris received about 300k frequent flyer miles just by applying to different credit cards. Not for the faint of heart or those not fiscally responsible, but neat none the less.
