ORBlogs Rescue

Community effort to stop ORBlogs from petering out.
alan cordle
I've got a manageable number of contributors now and would be happy to open up PorBlogs.com to any bloggers in the Portland Metro area (even Vancouver) or elsewhere in Oregon. See http://porblogs.com/?page_id=2 to join.

I just noticed that ORBlogs is down and thanks to Rick for posting news about said closure. I too started my crappy blog because of ORBlogs (or at least what I was reading on the site). - http://www.thingsaboutportlandthatsuck.com

PorBlogs is up already! The project was in the works before Orblogs went down. - http://porblogs.com
<sigh state="Oregon" city="Hood River"> Need I say... well... anything? - The Mettadore
We'll get there. Maybe we can subdomain porblogs into pdx.orblogs.com, when the big launch goes? Seems a shame to replicate effort if porblogs takes off... - J-P Voillequé

Not that Portland Blogs doesn't have it's utility, but I'd suggest that it's not a replacement for ORBlogs- just a different scale.

Looking through the ORblogs site, I can see that it's *not* a complicated data model...
I agree, but I also agree with Founder Paul Bausch's comments that we should probably spec out what it *should* be- both on the DB end and in the visual/services realm- and re-build it from the ground up. Not re-code the current code, but design a good site and create it. - The Mettadore

I can't make it to the Green Dragon tonight (other obligations), but I'm definitely excited about the idea of building a "2.0" version. Please let me know how it guys. I'd be happy to resurrect my Digg/blog aggregation project and get it hosted ASAP. All it needs is a different skin: "ORBlogs" instead of "politics" :P - Patrick Lightbody

Not the most artistic effort, but it gets the point across - http://siliconflorist.com/wp-cont...

site. It should be a good sell...

Wow, I have no idea what I can do to help, but I am in...I will certainly start spreading the word. One thing we can do is look for local advertisers for the site...I mean, talk about a captive audience of Portlandians... - http://www.portlandfoodie.com

I just posted a comment on the florist website, but I'll repost there too. Any thoughts about a self-service approach, similar to how Digg works? I built a site not long ago for politics that did Digg-style voting but was also a self-service blog aggregator similar to http://javablogs.com/Welcome.... Thoughts?

Money talks... We need space and bandwidth immediately. I'll risk it alone if need be- And will manage in the interim as well if need be. - http://twitter.com/Mettado...
I'd be happy to offer up my server - it's not being used for much right now. I have a good deal with a fully managed hosting provider that is *really* good. Just let me know if people are interested. - Patrick Lightbody

Alternative idea. Not a fan of ads, but I'd put AdWords on my sites and donate the proceeds. Any others? Blogs supporting ORBlogs?
J-P Voillequé
Gah, it doesn't carry over comments. Ah well. - J-P Voillequé

Wow. I am stunned by how Portlanders are coming together to save ORblogs. Maybe I shouldn't be surprised, this town is amazing. Let me know how I can help.
Yo, don't limit it to the town of Portland! - The Mettadore
