""There was a song about two years ago, 'I know what I was doing, but what was I was thinking?' John McCain is probably singing that song right now.""

Milbank is a hack and this article just proves it. Obama took a trip. He's acting presidential! Oh nooooes! The Europe trip was a huge success and now the media, who desperately want a close race for the theater of the thing, are playing up the "Obama is arrogant and presumptuous" angle because he didn't cooperate and make any major errors. They might as well go ahead and call him uppity and get it over with.
- Jeff Jones
"Uppity"? Please. One of the great failings of the Obama PR machine is the attempt to cast all criticism of Obama as racist. Thankfully that didn't stick the way they so clearly wanted it to.
- Soulhuntre
God help us if Obama actually wins (hope he does) -- then every little criticism of the President is going to be rebutted how you wouldn't say that if he was white. Fuck. Now I wish the Republicans had nominated someone I wouldn't hate myself for voting for! (Just kidding, never would happen.)
- Dave Winer
Conclusion: Hubris is something even black people need to watch out for.
- Dave Winer
Soulhuntre, you can't blame that on the Obama PR machine -- these guys here are just random Internet Idiots, not part of some vast Left Wing Conspiracy.
- Dave Winer
This is the endgame of Political Correctness - a protected class of "victims" immune from criticism or unapproved commentary.
- Soulhuntre
Personally, I'm happy someone in this country is acting "Presidential". Someone sure as hell needs to. :)
- Malevolent Robot
I like Obama, but if he continuous like this, imagine when he IS the president (if he wins off course!)
- Fernando
Well, maybe I don't know writing like a biting wit such as yourself ("Idiot"! How brilliant!) but I still know a hack when I see one. Where is the substance in this article Dave? He calls Obama arrogant for putting together a team to transition into the White House when this is common practice (Reagan put his team together much sooner, so did Clinton). He quotes criticism from "The Atlantic and New Republic. Wow! Call me an idiot if it makes you happy but Milbank does nothing but grasp straws here.
- Jeff Jones
I don't think it's beautifully written but it's definitely funny.
- Rick Powell
@Dave Winer - certainly not everyone who does this is part of the Obama camp! This sort of thing has long predated him - but his camp absolutely has encouraged it.
- Soulhuntre
DAMN! How much cake did you EAT? :-)
- Jeff Garlick
Oh, come on, V. I know working with me was a thrilling experience for you, but there's really no need to start copping my style.

This is what happens when you game all day! (V, you might want to cut back on the birthday cakes.. hehe)

I know I love those damn glasses - have you seen the cover of Ebony?
- R. Ferguson
for the record - the solider don't hurt the eyes either....LOL
- R. Ferguson
I am lmao @Ruth and Cecily and agreeing on both counts.
- Cheryl
um yeah. what cecily said. that looks like a scene from the next hot action flick.
- tiffany
Ruth, I live in Vancouver, Canada. Now where am I going to find an issue of Ebony in this town? :D
- cecily
@ Cecily ... is Vancouver that "vanilla"? I would hate to think you can't find a copy of Ebony there.
- James
Essence, and any variety of hip hop magazine: check. Ebony or Jet? Nein.
- cecily
@ Cecily .... that's very curious missing the big two ... but at least Essence.
- James
Am I the only one who thought "The Matrix" with those sunglasses?
- Jason Carreira
Meh, Essence these days is Cosmo dipped in chocolate with a soupcon of spirituality thrown in. It bores me - but at least I get to see nice hairstyles on black women.
- cecily
Oh you guys are so right - it does look like a scene from some great spy flick with President Obama personally flying in to save the day....OK enough fantasying for the day.
- R. Ferguson
Cecily excellent description of Essence these days.
- R. Ferguson
"Obama, the poker player, has drawn to an inside straight: the Iraqis favor his plan over McCain's long-term bases. That must be galling. But it's no excuse to pop off the way McCain did. It was, shockingly, unpresidential."

It's somewhat depressing that with all the talk about open standards and formats and APIs and stuff that the compatibility between Twitter and identi.ca has gone largely unheralded. It's a big deal, really. Celebrate it. http://www.scripting.com/stories...
I hope we'll see more of this kind of API compatibility (or "standard APIs") for a bunch of other useful things in the near future.
- Jerome Paradis
Excellent observations. Will it impact mobile device development? Mobile pricing &/or service offerings?
- Scott Moskowitz
The only way I know of to push friendfeed to twitter is through twitterfeed or like service. But you are asking about the threaded notes. That is an interesting conundrum. Not sure I would want to see comments spammed over to twitter/identi.ca. Wouldn't that make it more of a hodgepodge of a conversational collage.

After one full day of trawling for product news for the tech.newsjunk.com site, the prize goes to http://www.webware.com/ which has more or less the same philosophy. Spare me the deal bits, who's buying who, etc. I want to know about the products.
The stories don't have to be even slightly earth shaking just interesting. I like reading about products six months after they launch. I like hearing what was on the designer's mind. How did the users influence the design? Screen shots are great. Howtos. Upgrades. Not into rumors of what might be coming. Tell me about the products and I'm happy. Webware seems to do that mighty well!
- Dave Winer
I really like Webware and I'm a fan of Rafe's style of writing as well. He consistently micro-blogs some witty stuff too. You can follow him on FF here http://friendfeed.com/rafe
