This actually happened last night. I was pouring a beverage into a tall tumbler, and it spilled onto the floor. I uttered these words... out loud: "Oh, and I just cleaned that floor!" #justlikemom
she initially was supposed to be an alternate. not sure if they decided to send another team or if someone dropped out. naturally no one will sleep tonight.

I accepted a full time position at work earlier this week. No more contract work for me (I hope.) It means less money salary-wise but it will be nice having benefits again. Hopefully we'll be able to drop Wifey's health insurance and save some money that way. It's expensive and not all that great to boot. Hooray for stability!
As expected their initial offer was lowball city. I came back with an over the moon counter offer expecting them to come back offering the median rate for the pay scale my job falls under. An old boss told me companies are loath to bring a new hire in for higher than the median. Their initial offer was well below the median. As expected they came back with the median and not wanting to push my luck I accepted. Official start date is the 20th.

The company is expanding like crazy (good looking out Affordable Care Act) so there is lots of opportunity for personal/professional growth within the organization. My boss has big plans for me and the rest of our team. Exciting times.

We're opening a new office in Washington D.C. I was there to help get things off the ground. There's a possibility I may have to go back next week. We'll be opening 20 additional offices by the end of next year so I'm sure this is only the first of many trips.

Talk about a phone call that brings you to tears (in a good way). My beloved Nenna Olumba ran in the Revlon Walk/Run for Women this morning, and she dedicated her race to me. She just called me as she was crossing the finish line to let me know that she finished, that she loved me, that she dedicated her participation in the run to me and that we...
In some kind of creepy coincidence, I was hired at my part time job one year ago today. I say it's a coincidence since I'm celebrating that anniversary by being promoted to full-time Supervisor. Yay me! A real full time job! :P (Time to update the resume.)
It really wouldn't be a creepy coincidence unless it was based on some anniversary like one Mars-year or something. THAT would be creepy. (Plus it would take longer!) If you had to wait one Neptune year (~165 Earth-years) for a performance review, that would really suck.

375g self-raising flour, 170ml cold lemonade, 170ml thickened cream. Mix the lemonade & cream together, fold into the flour until it's just mixed into a light dough. Roll & cut (preferably with a sharp knife or scone cutter), bake at 225C conventional/205C fan-forced for 12 - 15 minutes or until lightly golden.

Yup. Gotta get it ready for our Eurovision party.

Hmmm. Do you put anything in it, like dill?
- Running Slow
This is the first time I tried it. Lots of dill, plus red onion, carrot, allspice, bay leaf, white pepper, vinegar, super-fine sugar, and water. I got the herring from our local Polish market and it was a bit of luck because they had some salt-brined herring in stock for Orthodox Easter today.

Hah! You're both right. Just came from my physical -- clean bill of health other than a bit of cholesterol and vision starting to go. So I have a lot to be grateful for. But 50 is only four years off, how did this happen?

I have a sudden urge to get a sports car for some reason. Blondes seem attractive. What does this mean???

Yeah, I'm definitely more scared being this close to 50 but that has a lot more to do with where I personally am in my life than the age of 50 itself. I'm sure other people do really well with it. (I'm permanently about 22 in my head...except slightly wiser and more world weary. You can be permanently 35 in your head!)
- Spidra Webster
In all seriousness, there's a certain feeling of triumph that comes with getting a clean bill of health after a CPE. I had mine today too.
- Jim #TeamMonique
You youngun. Ya know - we have a grownups' table you can join here at 50. Remember, m9m? Also, I didn't even start learning proper HTML/CSS until I was 47, nearly six years ago.
- Mary B: #TeamMonique
LOL Mary, these are the true hours of aged wisdom, right?
- Janet:#TeamMonique
Does this mean I'm not old enough to be your friend Janet?
- Headless Gnad Kicker
Apparently. Also, the pills are in the kitchen. ;-) And I've been going to stand up and go there for an hour.
- Mary B: #TeamMonique
I worked a 13 hour shift and came home to become very angry with other half. Anger does not bode well for sleep. Going to see if I can grab two more hours before I am back at work. Hope you have good pills.
- Janet:#TeamMonique
I have GREAT pills. But I respect them, too. They're like big dogs - gotta keep a certain perspective.
- Mary B: #TeamMonique
I *feel* 32 today. But somehow that doesn't add up properly when I subtract my birth year from the calendar year. Odd, that.

For the record. Melly is also old enough to be my friend......and niece!

they kill me.Sets off my asthma . You can order them without I've heard.
- VALZ/TEAM TRAVIS
Maybe, sometimes, depends. Conde Nast Traveler did send an insert-free version...for a while (my wife has asthma). Then they stopped. Now I just go through magazines when they arrive, flipping for thick pages, and rip out any perfume inserts...

Before his recent performance in the fifth-grade version of The Tempest, I told Luke, "break a leg." Before slamming the door he yelled back "I hope you snap your neck!" Really got in the spirit of the superstition there.

I think this is nearly the Chego recipe. Also seen in Adam Robert's book "Secrets of the Best Chefs", where it's called "Stir-Fried Chicken Henhouse Bowl". (At Chego, there was also "sour cream sambal", which doesn't show up here.)

It won't be as good as freshly fried shallots, but you can buy jars of fried shallots from markets that serve SE Asian foods, and that'll cut a bunch of time down.

Also, there are a ton of ingredients up top to form the chili sauce, but it makes 4-6 cups of sauce, and you need 1/4 cup (or so) per serving. Roberts writes in the book that the key ingredients for the sauce are the Mae Ploy chili sauce, the citrus, herbs, onion, ginger, and garlic... so about half the ingredients. The rest - sriracha, red pepper powder, chiles, sesame paste, chili paste, pepper, scallions (?) - are optional.

OK, made the sauce today. It tastes really good. I'd definitely say the six ingredients Roberts singles out are the key ones.

apropos of nothing, but that site uses too many colors: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki... Though it does make the US look like Skittles and Skittles are delicious.
- Mark Trapp
Isn't there some math proof about the minimum number of colors needed in a map to guarantee that no two adjacent regions will have the same color?
- Stephen le Francoeur
I can't be certain, because I don't remember the exact colors and states, but I get the sense that the online map is trying to mimic a particular kind of color-in-the-states map that people used to (still do?) stick to the side of their RV/camper thing and fill in as they drive around. We saw a LOT of these on our epic cross-country road trip in the early 80s. EDIT: ah ha! http://www.signsoflife.net/rv-trav...
