Improving run-time performance is not their main goal. They are looking to optimize development cost and maintenance cost in a single language that is used for both server/client. I think they understand the reasons behind the growing popularity of Node.js (rapid development using a single web language), but see the applications people build with it as potential maintenance disasters... more... - Orion Jankowski
