Day 3 of not being able to send out emails from the store. Getting annoyed.
Can't send from the iPhone over WiFi either. So that narrows it down to the router and/or connection.

What kind of router do you have in the store? Have you checked the ports on it to see if something is being blocked all of the sudden? SMTP is port 25 if I remember correctly.

Uh. Changed some router settings which forced a reboot (I think) and the iPhone was able to send it's email. But none after that until the router restarted again. Still can't send from the desktop. Could a little mousey be the culprit??

Oh, I guess I should check my Verzion email sometime. Apparently they block outgoing port 25 for smtp (as a spambot prevention "feature"). Not very convenient for folks that use their mail program on multiple networks. Glad I'm using a router!

That's a feature? That's probably one of the dumbest things I've ever heard! Dependent on your SMTP servers, you might can change the ports. Port 587 often times will work as well for SMTP servers.

Yeah it's horrible. If you're smart enough to build and deploy a botnet, I think you could add a "if (err && port == 25) { port = 587; tryAgain(); }" Looks like my router won't do port translation. Was hoping to avoid doing it on my machine.

It was easier to use alternative ports since my server host supports them port 26 FTW!

Another dumb situation like this is GoDaddy blocking sendmail() by default unless you use their "special script." I can understand if it's some random port number that's getting abused by a script, but something such as a default SMTP port being blocked by anyone is just silly. It also seems as if the mail clients would be smart enough to look at 587 as a secondary SMTP port if 25 fails.

Nicolas, THANKS! That did the trick. Then I had to figure out a z-index issue and then I learned that java script calls have to come a particular order and then had to work on the stylization. It is almost there. Thanks for you help!

well, that's certainly a dilemma. barcamp or BBQ. personally i'd be leaning toward BBQ, which is probably a bad thing for me to say considering i'm one of the barcamp organizers. however i'm sure there will be other JD BBQ championships and #chs barcamps. there's only going to be one inaugural #chs barcamp though.

I could finish my certification of KCBS ath the JD BBQ comp. But it also 11 hours away. But it also one of the best BBQ comps around. But it is the first BarCamps. But it in CHS where I can talk to a bunch of net friends personally. But, But, Butt...

I love the Bog Off. However I will be in Kingstree for a large BBQ event (50+ teams) and then it is off to the Wooden Boat Show, which is such a fun event!

First off, I forgot how awesome Friendfeed was with these awesome threaded conversations. I went to the Wooden Boat Show 2 years ago as I was working for Georgetown Times. One of my favorite BBQ places is out past Kingstree, I just need to find the time to get out there to grab some food.

we went to the breeder to visit the puppies (one of my dogs is in there). when we got there, they were all in the dog house hanging out while the whelping pen was being cleaned out. Watching them all spill out of the house when they noticed us was almost as much fun as watching them in there.

Paul, order placed and woohoo!!! FWIW my internet connection kept timing out trying to connect to PayPal. Not an issue on your end, but don't want it to mess with your inventory numbers if you have that in place in the backend.
