If you turned the slideshow off previously it's worth turning on, especially on touch devices. But it would be better if instead of showing a spinner until an image is fully loaded, it instead showed the image as soon as it's partially loaded so you don't spend as much time waiting. Agreed. And in this case, seeing the picture load goes beyond the appearance of being faster. OurDoings has been using making progressive JPEGs since January 2011, so with photos uploaded since then you'll see the entire subject before the full-resolution image data loads.
