From Mr. Bradbury, "The best hygiene for beginning writers or intermediate writers is to write a hell of a lot of short stories. If you can write one short story a week -- doesn't matter what the quality is to start, but at least you're practicing. At the end of the year, you have 52 short stories, and I defy you to write 52 bad ones. Can't be done."

Another gem from Mr. Bradbury, "We are cups, constantly and quietly being filled. The trick is, knowing how to tip ourselves over and let the beautiful stuff out."

Happy Belated Birthday. 1920 was also the year my Grandfather was born and celebrated his on the 16th, currently he is trying to sign off from Sky Broadband and move to BT. He tried inputting his email on sky's sign off page and when after the 5th time it didn't accept his address he wrote in the box "I have used this email for two years now why won't you accept it!" they did..his theory is that there are people on the other side. His last words on the call was 'Keep your head up!'
- Jason
@ Jason- Great story! You mean there aren't people on the other side?
- michael sean wright
Heh, I was about to say i had posted a duplicate of this article...but this was a whole year ago. Wow, we've been using Friendfeed a long time.

A lot of people live so close to the edge, on credit, that they really can't withstand volatility..

re-phrase -- we need more idiots with pockets full of money to make more funny financial experiments, we just fcuking can't stop to entertain ourselves with process of burning out them ;)

So he can help the next president start another war? I appreciate his endorsement of Obama and especially what he said aboutMuslim Americans (my 7 year-old did too). However Powell was a central figure in an Administration that invaded another country and led to the deaths of 100K Iraqi civilians. He is no less a war criminal than George Bush for doing so.
- Farhan Memon
He was mistaken like the majority of American citizens. At least he realized it. He said today he worked to promote peace first, as well, and I'm inclined to believe him.

won't help Obama. glad it won't too. this guy is such a liar. he is bitter because they lied to him... and it turns out he was lied to for a very good reason. he is angry. bitter white guy! lol too late to help. momentum is going McCain's way now... polls are a media mirage. watch.
- NoahDavidSimon
I think it was calculated to do just that - end up in the cabinet. Where's the "Change", from Biden on it's all Old Guard!
- Victor Ryden 美久太阿
Powell's reasons were economic. Military peeps doing Economics, like Grab Ass'n boot camp. Colin "Don't Ask Don't Tell”

For a second there my eyes deceived me and I thought that read 'Press the Meat' haha

there's nothing wrong with being a nerd / geek / dork! revenge of the nerds ftw!
- Mona Nomura
I refuse to admit that an Apple nerd is the second iteration of the original geek. I'd buy that the geek and the nerd both fork from the same dork tree, though.
- Mark "Rizzn" Hopkins
Also, say that second sentence five times fast out loud. :)
- Mark "Rizzn" Hopkins
+1 Mark. The internet is seemingly filled with 'geeks' who can't fix their own computers. (I said can't, not won't)
- Yuvi
Funny >the geek and the nerd both fork from the same dork tree, though.
- Russellreno
Very nice! You could replace the D&D by a deck of Magic the gathering in Geek 1.0

Geek 1.5 ("The Transitional"): 1. Trusty Palm V (in all its form factor glory) in hand, 2. Inserted into casual conversation: "AOL! - Pssf! If my ADND gaming group is any indication, the game is still D&D, but character sheets are on the computers. I fully believe I combine the best of both worlds; with a Tablet PC my character sheets are both digital and handwritten. I've got to admit the spreadsheet users have it nice, when it comes to stat penalties and recalculating...uh, I think I should shut up, now.

Incase you don't know (many won't, I'm sure), it allows you to collect rather detailed statistics of Flickr Accounts, Blogs, forums, etc. It's nowhere complete - The analysis subsystem is complete, and so are the Flickr and Techmeme data collection subsystems. Twitter Data Collection Subsystem used to work till Twitter turned Developer Hostile.
- Yuvi
id love to chat with you about doing some work for me - can you send me an email?
- Allen Stern
@Allen - I am not able to locate an email address for you at CenterNetworks.com (mine is yuvipanda@gmail.com)
- Yuvi
How does code.google.com/p/thestatbot sound? :-) You can give people access to improve it for you. :D
- dgw
Well, giving people access gives me more incentives to improve it for myself too :)
- Yuvi
I would recommend that you cleanup the code first before releasing it. What license are you considering?
- Hassan Ibraheem
@Hassan - Obviously will be cleaned up. And ofcourse I intend to continue development. I am leaning towards something non-GPL, but compatible with the GPL....
- Yuvi
Would be great to do some of our own analysis. You'd definitely make a small cadre of analytics nerds very happy!
- Ozan Onay
Michael - don't be so generous - the truth is that most people want images they can download - Zivity says they are working towards viewable-only larger images but I am not sure that will suffice.
- Allen Stern
Actually the Bahamas, Iceland, Norway and Slovenia did better than Aus per capita. And the Bahamas clearly won when normalized by GDP: http://bit.ly/3ew13I

God, I always hated tapes... so worthless...
- Jason Carreira
Dude, cassettes are so much awesome. How'd you get so lucky and land Cyndy, sunshine? Sheesh!
- Mona Nomura
from fftogo
I hated cassettes too... with vinyl you go to a track, hell with 8 tracks you kinda go to a track :P Cassettes, portable, and that was all it had going for it. *edit* though, I have seen some cool cassette label art
- Michael W. May
I bet a trillion dollars (pounds?) someone on FriendFeed can make this LOL
- Mona Nomura
Not sure a cassette would ever fit in an ipod case (let alone with mechanism). Is this why the pics only show it half-in? Could certainly go with an early HanGo or Creative route. Perhaps it's time to dig out my SSI Neo and rip its gizzards out...

"Twitter connections change over time. We tend to follow more people as we go, but we also remove connections depending our interest and attention span. At least I do. Since I look at the whole network activity from a very thin slice (a list) I prefer to cure my network, I remove some people to be able to keep up with others."
- Erhan Erdoğan
It would be interesting to see how connections/traffic has changed, since Firat Yildaz and the 450.

From a *Microsoft* recruiter's email this morning: "I came across your profile through our resume database (Google Search) and I will like to talk to you regarding our current openings." Seriously? Your resume database is Google Search? Points for honesty there...
I don't think that they've ever managed to hire many people from Google though. Certainly the original push (when they were calling all of the engineers) was fruitless.
- Paul Buchheit
Good luck on the interview, Kevin. Let us know how it goes.

Imaging being in downtown Palo Alto, first floor, and having all the passers by see flames inside. Might be useful for telling everyone you have a HOT startup.
