Oh, it's not that hard. Kermit is such a drama queen. - Chris Baskind
Looks fine to me - LPH™ and his dog P™
After listening to the Gillmur (sp) Gang, I am shocked he literally didn't turn into the Hulk and smash Mike Arrington. :P - Molly, New Ears :P

+1 George Hall - chaz2b
Robert: That avatar image is how I picture you looking, each time someone on Twitter accuses you of making "too much noise." Don't blame Scoble for the noise - blame Twitter's lame interface and lack of filters!! :-) - Jim Connolly
Why does anyone care about the effing avatar?!? I don't get it, it's the content that's interesting. Avatars are only meaningful to the person behind anyway. - Johan Mellberg from twhirl

They're just jealous of your superpowers. - Kirsti Scott
You should keep it. It is really funny and easy to understand. - Alp
nothing wrong with that avatar. however, if (avatarColor()==#01C501){ hidePost(); }. j/k - AJ Batac
Duncan Riley
The thing I'll say about the new FriendFeed: it doesn't know what it wants to be. Is this suppose to be a Facebook takeoff? Twitter? It feels to me like it's now the master of none, and to some degree has lost part of its unique identity.
It's master of real-time, and filtering - Jesse Stay
There's something to be said for the relative visual complexity of the old interface vs the beta -- the beta seems less professional, more toyish. - Andy Bakun
real-time of what though Jesse? - Duncan Riley
Why does it have to be anything besides what it is? Why the need for comparisons? - Admiral Anika
Master of other sites ripping off its features. - Rodfather
Andy, my thoughts as well. I get the feeling this is a consumer play in an attempt to attract new users who are familiar with FB, Twitter etc - Duncan Riley
Rodfather, who rips who though. I've lost count in both directions. This new version rips back as well - Duncan Riley
I hated the old interface. I am not entirely sure I like real time but I hated the old interface. - Nation Hahn
Well, one thing is for sure, Duncan, the excuse, and that's what it is, that twitter is easier to "get" than FF is now bogus. - Andy Bakun
Anika, but it was something before. - Duncan Riley
Duncan, real-time content - not sure what you mean. I know of no other site that has mastered real-time as well as FriendFeed - Jesse Stay
I'll give you that Duncan. - Rodfather
Duncan, play with the filters on the right - they are so much better than before, and totally make sense with the new real-time nature - Jesse Stay
Andy, very true. This without doubt drops the barrier to entry. Jesse: I'm not sure that "real-time" is a feature in its own right, as opposed to a sub-set - Duncan Riley
The comments updating in real-time while I'm typing a new one is both interesting and annoying. The box I'm typing in needs to stay static and the page needs to increase upward. - Andy Bakun
Perhaps they're not trying to be master of anything, per-se, but hit a niche audience of people that appreciate a quality interface and real-time content. I keep comparing it to the way Apple competes, especially in their earlier days. They weren't trying to be master of anything, except for a small group of users that would appreciate what they offer. - Jesse Stay
I had a discussion with @gabrielh on the MUNI on the way home after the FF MySQL talk, he said he had a bunch of widgets on his home page showing aggregated content from a bunch of sites, but just directing people to FF is a lot easier than cluttering up your website like that. - Andy Bakun
Hmmm. I actually like this! Facebook will add this too and it is kinda sad for Friendfeed. - Jason McGowan
I'm not sure rounded edges and a splash of color count for a new "quality" statement Jesse, but that's not worth arguing about. FriendFeed before was clearly a social aggegator. FriendFeed now is like Twitter, but with Facebook thrown in. If I wanted Facebook, I'd use Facebook. - Duncan Riley
I don't know--today was the first time I really started to look around and play with FF. Perhaps it's the hype, but it actually may 'force' me to be FF social instead of just using it as my aggregator/scrapbook; time will tell. I can also see how it might be painful for those that have become accustomed to the 'legacy' workflow... Change is rarely easy, but it keeps life exciting. - Jason Nelson
Jason, FriendFeed users will still use FriendFeed, regardless. Facebook may add it, but FriendFeed IMO is beginning to develop an Apple-like following. IE, you can come to them for the latest and greatest. That's why Apple is successful IMO. - Jesse Stay
what was its unique identity you think Duncan, that's interesting? - Loic Le Meur
Jesse: I do however understand that this is actually a play for a bigger audience, and changing the focus is an attempt to increase the audience. I'm just not convinced copying FB and Twitter as opposed to being unique is the way to do that. Not my money I guess :-) - Duncan Riley
Last I checked, neither Twitter nor Facebook updated in realtime. If I want RT updates on Twitter, I either use my browser (Flock) or Twhirl. I use my browser for RT FB updates, otherwise FB just sits there as a static page. Also, I don't recall Twitter lumping replies under the original post...so, why the comparison? - Admiral Anika
Loic, FF was a proper social aggregator before FB added similar features. We always knew what FriendFeed offered vs other sites. Now that purpose is less clear because it's more like other sites. It may work as a strategy, if you can't beat them after all.... - Duncan Riley
Duncan, I still think there's a uniqueness here that I can't get from Facebook or Twitter. I feel like it was written for *me*, vs. a mass audience, which is why it's growing on me. Once I came to terms with that today I changed my opinion. - Jesse Stay
Anika, I can hit refresh on a page if I wanted updates. I don't see this whole "real time" business as a huge selling point. - Duncan Riley
That said, there are still clearly some things they'll need to update before it's completely satisfying. I have a feeling they'll adapt. - Jesse Stay
For my uses, it's doing a good job of replacing many services I used previously. No more Google Reader & Twitter. For services I use now, it may take chunk out time used in other services... With advanced search & filters, Google. With real-time, IRC. With DM, instant messengers. - Rodfather
I think it's smart. Now it needs SMS capablities. Or does it have it already? - Patricia
Jesse, and I'll be the first to concede that give a couple of days, I may well change my tune if it grows on me; well, in terms of loving it. I still think it's having an identity issue. - Duncan Riley
thanks Duncan, I am obviously wondering about these big time. Hope to have you live with us tomorrow. - Loic Le Meur
Loic, thx + will be on tomorrow - Duncan Riley
thanks Duncan, I have not given any embargo to anyone so it should be worth you attending. - Loic Le Meur
I should note in this thread that I don't hate the "real time" part like I know some do. I just don't think it's a selling point. - Duncan Riley
Duncan, I guess I got spoiled with autorefreshes from political blogs. The past few years, leaving those sites has me aghast at how behind other sites are. I don't like having to refresh my pages, especially on a social site. The other other site I can think of that offered a RT view was Seesmic, but that was borked most of the time. When it worked, it was awesome. - Admiral Anika
The problem with auto refresh in new Friendfeed is that I cant keep track of things; it's refreshing too fast. Technorati removed it, remember? - Palin Ningthoujam
@Patricia: You can use ping.fm to send a SMS to FF. - Rodfather
Jesse and Anika, I think you hit upon some key points. Jesse - though I hadn't thought of it quite that way before, the analogy of Apple to customer base as FF to its base is quite accurate. And Duncan, the skeptical questions are part of what makes these discussion work - that's a good thing. - Micah Wittman
Anika, I can see the pros and cons , but really are thousands, millions going to sign up to FriendFeed because it's "real time." Besides, it's not really "real time" is it, because the data doesn't come in in real time. From delays on Twitter to FeedBurner with feeds. It's more "auto-refresh" than real time - Duncan Riley
i think this is all a part of the twitter mania running rounds right now... every site somehow wants to look like twitter, forgetting that the very essence of twitter is its open API, which allows users to customize the content and presentation... facebook messed up, and now friendfeed follows on the trodden path - Anurag Gupta
Anurag +1 - Duncan Riley
also Patricia: agree. Having to scroll up to hit comment is stupid. - Duncan Riley
From a development or site functionality aspect, is this platform something that they talked about revolutionizing communications on the web or anything? I know a bunch were at the press conference.... - Patricia
I just don't see how this is more like Twitter - I don't think it looks anything like Twitter. Maybe in simplicity, yes. - Jesse Stay
If I had to pitch it, I probably wouldn't mention real time in the first pass. I'd focus on the fact that it pulls together all the content your friends are generating all over the web (just like the old UI) and wraps discussion and discovery around that. - Ken Sheppardson
Jesse: Twitter meets facebook. Anyone for DM's? :-) - Duncan Riley
Duncan, that's typical of any social network though. I think they've re-invented the way DMs work - it's totally different from both Twitter and Facebook. I can't CC people on Facebook or Twitter. My conversations aren't threaded. I can't "like" a DM. - Jesse Stay
Jesse: I agree--this has little to do with Twitter and even less in terms of Facebook. I keep reading about how this redesign will affect the dialogue... Would this conversation have progressed differently using the old interface? - Jason Nelson
Jesse: the DM comment was flippant, but you've actually agreed to a degree: these are features typical of any social network. So we get back to where I started: FriendFeed is the master of none (accept auto-refreshing) - Duncan Riley
There's no comparison between FriendFeed and Twitter when it comes to feed/content aggregation. Twitter just doesn't do that. There might be some similarities with Facebook on that front, but the key difference there is the assumption of openness vs reproducing closed, established, social groups. FriendFeed is the master of aggregating content and promoting open discussion around it, facilitating discovery of new content, and oh, by the way... it's in real time. - Ken Sheppardson
Ken, but it's NOT in real-time. It's an auto-refresh feature. It can't be real unless the source inputs are sent through as they are shared/ posted etc. It was the master of aggregation, but now it want's to be something else as well. Twitter married Facebook and the first born was FF :-) - Duncan Riley
The Direct Messaging feature is as real-time as anything gets, Skype is a turtle in comparison - Chris Nuttall
Duncan: Content collection might be "auto-refresh", but commenting is not. Commenting, likes, and filtering are real time. In some sense, nothing is real time unless you see "Duncan is typing a blog post..." style messages, but I'm willing to cut the Internet some slack there. - Ken Sheppardson
a bit of a gimmick this real time. crashes my computer. this is a nice option and that is it. little things like adding to lists and customization should be their first objective. why not filter a service out as an option for example. the problem with coders is they are the worst at deciding what makes a great network. that is probably why all the code people on friendfeed have blocked... more... - Noah David Simon
I shoulda stuck to my guns when I said I probably wouldn't mention RT in my first pass. I see that's somewhat of a distraction from my core pitch ;-) - Ken Sheppardson
I've been sick as a dog all day so I may just be delusional. I'll tell you if I stick to my guns after I feel better. Right now it's all a blur - then again, so is FriendFeed. ;-) - Jesse Stay
Duncan: I'd say it's more like IRC knocked up Twitter and Facebook is its redheaded stepbrother. - Jason Nelson
I think Friendfeed started as a lifestreaming site, but the activity of its users generating conversations from the items imported changed that. Now Friendfeed is all about the conversation, and real-time improves that a lot. You should check the videos at scobleizer.blip.tv, there Paul and Bret explain it. - Alejandro
the first thing is there needs to be option, options, options. see what works about facebook is the walls. there should be filters... maybe you don't want to know friends of people you blocked for example. set all kinds of variables. they are looking to make this thing more slick... and not thinking about what the user really needs. to what degree of seperation from an asshole do you want to block? ...AND SO ON - Noah David Simon
how about blocks only in lists? example... I like that Noah guys choice in Variable X... but he can get annoying in this list... so filter him out - Noah David Simon
The master glue service. Thats what it IS. Nothing else really is that. not twitter not facebook. They each have their place. If they need to copy some features from each other, where's the harm? I use them all because I get a different value from each. - guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Duncan: Why is that last so bad? Twitter married FB and the result is FF. Three is a magical number, and the completion of creative energy. If it wasn't for FF I wouldn't get nearly the value out of twitter & FB that I do today. - guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Jason +1 - Duncan Riley
Another thing to note is that Facebook took almost a year to adopt "likes" and a feed similar to FF's. What else is FriendFeed going to develop that Facebook won't implement for another year? Again, the Apple analogy comes into play. - Jesse Stay
that Apple analogy is beginning to grate on my nerves. While it might make business sense to be an Apple it is an entirely different thing when it comes to software on the web or the desktop - especially if you are running with a business model that is unknown at this time. Software succeeds by "numbers" not by being trendy and cool - Steven Hodson

Bhawna Travels | Making road trips in India comfortable, safe, joyful
"Hi, my name is Hans Raj Sharma. Allow me to share with you some thoughts on why I am happy to help you make your road trips in India comfortable, safe, and joyful. I love traveling and have toured across India with many of my friends from Italy, UK, US, and other parts of the globe. I used to wonder why my friends would most of the time prefer to travel with me whenever they are in India. One reason probably is that when we go to distant lands, we look for familiar faces, we want to be with those whom we can trust, and with whom we can share a good time. Those travel have today led to the foundation of Bhawna Travels, named after my daughter Bhawna Sharma Ningthoujam, but the spirit is what my team and I always strive to share with my guests who choose to share their journeys with us." - Palin Ningthoujam

Twitter new Spam rule @ to more than one user same message will get you Banned
If you send the same message starting with @TwitterUser to more than one user Twitter will Ban you! Time to move to identi.ca How many of you have identi.ca account? - Igor The Troll יִצְחָק
what the heck? So how are you supposed to thank more than one person using a single tweet? - Glenn Batuyong
I think there's more going on here than that specific process resulting in spamming, Igor. I'd say you're probably flagged. - Greg Lexiphanic
Oh really? I guess that means Twitter is no longer allowing retweets to a particular follower. Funny, I haven't read anything about that on Twitter's blog. You sure they don't mean sending the same message individually to more than one follower using the @ sign can be considered spam? - Sharon McPherson
what's the rationale? - Palin Ningthoujam
I did this a couple of days ago - haven't been banned yet! As Greg says, there's more going on. I'll move to identi.ca if / when my network moves there. However, I'd expect them to have to take anti-spam measures too if they became popular. - David Sim
Where did you find this out? Have you got a source? Doesn't make sense to me how will this stop spam? - Gez
but sometimes we do want to send the saem message to more than one preson..... voila, then we have the twitter account banned.. how aweful!! - Moksh Juneja from twhirl
The only mention I can find on Twitter's blog about spammers is related to the jerks who follow thousands of peeps in the hope that some will follow them back, so they can blast them with links to their site. http://blog.twitter.com/ Quite honestly Igor, your pattern of 'I've been banned for no good reason' rants have become more than a litle annoying. - Sharon McPherson
"As noted originally, you have more than once used the @ reply functionality to spam the same content to multiple users." I was told this in an email by Jason Goldman Twitter representative. - Igor The Troll יִצְחָק

How to search for words ending with me or any other domain name extensions - http://feeds.advocable.com/~r...
With all the rush and chaos for booking fancy .me domain names since yesterday, I decided to do a quick search on finding some cool words ending with ‘me’. I found two cool tools that will do the work for us. The first one is More Words. Simply enter ‘*me’ in its search box and it gives you a list of 407 words ending with ‘me’. Examples: time, summertime, slime, overcome, and so on. The next tool is WordNavigator. On a similar search on the site for words ending with ‘me’, it came out with a list of 647 words. - Palin Ningthoujam
