FriendFeed for the time being is not going anywhere. For the past week the lack of information has troubled and angered me, especially in regards to the termination date for the service. Now, almost a week on, the lack of information now gives me comfort.
- Johnny Worthington
When ever you here about a take over of a car company or any business merger, the plans for both sides are well documented and everyone involved knows the road map ahead. So far, no one knows what will happen to friendfeed.com and I believe that is because either that hasn't been decided or there is no immediate plans to throw the switch.
- Johnny Worthington
Facebook either doesn't want it or simply doesn't care. They got the talent and that is what they were after. FriendFeed posed no real threat to them and a great majority double fisted the sites anyway. So, since it is not an issue to them... it's not an issue to them. The site can continue to function as normal, with pace of updates and servicing slowing as time moves forwards... but it's not going away.
- Johnny Worthington
It would be nice to get some form of notification but until told otherwise, it's business as usual. Even more so, if some form of monetization strategy is implemented, say with adds or even a premium subscription base, the FriendFeed service could not only continue long term but become a profitable venture. Now I'm not saying it's going to make Diddy-style dollars but Sanjya still eats well.
- Johnny Worthington
Am I naive? Probably. Do I have any basis for my prediction? None other than rampant fanboy love.... but I tell you what... on the morning of December 25th, 2009, I plan to make my post wishing you all a Merry Christmas, toast the FriendFeed team and enjoy the day with my family and friends, digital or otherwise...
- Johnny Worthington
Louis... I can never hope to drop science like you sir... but then again... I not only used the phrase 'Diddy-style Dollars' but threw in a 'double fisted' for good measure :P
- Johnny Worthington
When it's Christmas, there's cold weather involved - I'm not a fan of that!
- Drew
Lindsey, agreed, but what do they gain by not telling us that information if they know it? FriendFeed makes no money, no refunds need be paid and no customers are being hurt. In the cold hard truth, the team has cashed out and now have a bigger fish to fry. If they switch it off tomorrow, will you stop using Facebook because they now work there? No PR worries at all. It makes no sense for them to keep it quiet so, sense being the only thing I can go on, I must believe the information is not at hand.
- Johnny Worthington
So, in other words... no ice bergs ahead at this stage. That means, crew of the good ship FriendFeed, I'm gonna keep pushing this site hard, promoting it and the community like I have a heater strapped to the front of the boat.
- Johnny Worthington
Johnny, there is quite a bit of sense as to everyone keeping quiet about what is going to happen. Facebook have just bought themselves a competitive advantage and they are not about to give away that advantage by saying what it is that they will be doing now are they?
- Travis Koger
from iPhone
Other than releasing Facebook real-time search, buying FriendFeed and launching the Facebook Lite beta all withing 48 hours... yeah, they are keeping their cards close to their chest :P
- Johnny Worthington
Yeah but all of the FB announcements not relating to FF were already complete with the FF team. Therefore you can only expect that the FF team will be working on some things that a VERY different. I also read that the FF team were actually being broken up an duferemt people were going to be in different areas at FB.

I hope that I'm able to celebrate Christmas on FriendFeed too:)

I thought I'd get this in early else I'll forget or run out of time. I have 4 more days of work before I'm off until 2010. I hope the 4 days go by very quickly, hehe. :-) What is everyone's plans for the holiday season?

My brother will be around for Xmas morning then a panto on the Sunday. Apart from that it will be a quiet one, which I kinda like. I hope we get more snow so I get a chance to go out and do some long overdue photography. :-)

Merry Christmas, Kol! I'm hoping for some snow & a quiet holiday. What we have is rain, and we'll probably go out and get drunk. (Well, I don't really get drunk, but all this noise.. :)

"We know you're itching to get your hands on a Nexus One -- Google's managed to build buzz here the way only a couple companies in the world know how. Unfortunately, it sounds like you're going to need to cross your fingers (or pull out that eBay emergency stash) to get one out of the gate, because we've got some intel here suggesting that it'll be available only by "invitation" at first. Our tipster doesn't have information on how those invites are going to be determined, other than the fact that it's Google doing the inviting -- if we had to guess, current registered developers are a strong possibility -- but the good news, we suppose, is that T-Mobile will apparently sell the phone directly at some to-be-determined point in the future. Oh, but that's not all -- we've got specs, too. Lots of them. Here are the highlights, but follow the break for the whole shebang"

And normal people do this kind of stuff over on Facebook (I watch my wife talk to her elementary school friends there).
- Robert Scoble
While the "pros" have figured out you can't get paid for doing work online here or on Twitter, so they just put links to their blogs.
- Robert Scoble
"I think we're just tired of all online socializing" I do it every minute of everyday on FriendFeed.
- Johnny Worthington
Twitter isn't that good for conversations. I use Facebook for conversations with my "IRL friends". For social conversations I've recently come back to FriendFeed (it IS better than Twitter when it comes to conversations), Google Talk, Google Reader and in some extent...yes Twitter. But as you said, Twitter has been populated by people that only posts links to their blogs...and often never answer their replies.
- Patrik Johansson
Johnny: the world isn't like you and me. And, anyway, even though you and I do it here, most normal people do it on Facebook.
- Robert Scoble
Most normal people do it on email. Facebook is still a distant 2nd.
- Bruce Lewis
from fftogo
Bruce: I don't think so. Almost all of my friends have Facebook (no Twitter, no FriendFeed, no Google Reader, no Flickr, no Last.fm etc etc). And most of them check their email once a week, Facebook 3 times a day. I'm talking about personal use here, not work mail.
- Patrik Johansson
Most plans and communication is still happening over SMS and phone calls. I understand I'm not normal. I sat around a table with 9 people last week. Everyone had a computer, 4 had an iPhone, no one knew what Android was, 7 had a Facebook account, 3 had a Twitter account (2 only tweeted less than 5 times) and everyone knew of FriendFeed because of me doing the podcast. We're niche.
- Johnny Worthington
from iPhone
The elite players are having secret walled off conversations in Google Reader.
- Louis Gray
I agree Johnny. SMS and phone are by far the most popular communication tool. Most people I know know about iPhone but not Android. I don't think that communicate on the web is so big that we think it is.
- Patrik Johansson
Louis: exactly why Google Reader is dead. :-)
- Robert Scoble
Google Reader isn't dead Robert. I've tried to follow your tip, about getting the news from Twitter. It doesn't work. The biggest problem is that the company/website/blog need to have a Twitter account and update it...well, that may be the case in the U.S. But if I want to follow any Swedish newspaper or something, they don't have Twitter...but I can subscribe to their sites through Google Reader. That's why RSS isn't dead, and is still beating Twitter.
- Patrik Johansson
Robert you're awesome for starting this thread. As for your first comment, I'd have to disagree because we're no longer socializing. We're marketing and the shit is about to hit the fan. I can just feel it coming down my Twitter stream.
- Corvida
The (read: my) problem is that with Facebook it's too intimate. People wouldn't understand the things I talk about at home and on a personal level because it's usually race related and people of a different race would feel some sort of way about engaging in such a conversation. Either way, that's not what I want to talk about online.
- Corvida
I use all four things. I use Google Reader for news articles. I use Facebook for communication with Family. I use Twitter for people who are in subject areas that I'm interested in such as farming. I use Friendfeed for discussions (or sometimes arguments).
- Judy Jones
I want to go back to talking and sharing the topics we're all interested in. I want to go back to discussing the cool little gems we find around the web. I don't want to just review them. I want to DISCUSS them. We used to do that a long time ago. Myself, Louis, Steven Hodson, Jeff, Rahsheen, Sarah Perez, Shey, Frederic and a host of other people. We DISCUSSED Friendfeed. We DISCUSSED Twitter. We DISCUSSED RSSmeme which half the world no longer knows or cares about....
- Corvida
We discussed everything topic related and we loved it. We built our own hype instead of getting sucked into major blogs and what the rest of the kool-aid drinking web was saying. WE did that and it felt good. It felt like a community. Now, I really do feel like I'm screaming in a crowded room...and no one really gives a fuck.
- Corvida
Johnny, we're niche, but not invisible. I want to have conversations with people who have related interest. I don't want to talk about dogs, cats, what your kids did. Fuck that, I hate kids, dogs, and (usually) cats. I want good tech conversations 24/7. That's what the old days used to be like. That's the FriendFeed and Twitter I remember instead of all this marketing BS
- Corvida
This thread remember me the reason why I've started following Robert Scoble or Corvida: not because they were famous or glamour or something like that but because they were able to create deep and brilliant conversations...
- maxilprof
Hrm. I think I have to agree with Corvida here. I was attracted to this whole thing by learning about Twitter on her blog, which led me on a journey to becoming a writer for BlackWeb 2.0. Everything has definitely taken a marketing turn that is kinda disturbing. Even those in the field that are not really marketers still have a marketing approach to it all. Twitter, for instance, is mostly a link farm. I think this is part of the reason I got hooked on FF. People were actually discussing stuff here.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Patrik: yes, San Francisco is often two to five years ahead of the rest of the world. For fun I just checked into Feedly again. ALL I saw was stuff I've already seen on Twitter. So, for me (and anyone who cares about the tech industry) Google Reader is showing dramatically less utility than it did a year ago, especially if you've put any time into organizing feeds into lists over on Twitter.
- Robert Scoble
Rahsheen: funny, I tried to get the rest of the industry over here and failed. Why? Most people don't want to have conversations. Tim O'Reilly, for instance, told me he doesn't have time for that.
- Robert Scoble
I agree Rahsheen. The discussions is what got us going on FriendFeed. Too hard to do them on Twitter. How do we get back to those days people?
- Corvida
But isn't all that discussion just speculation until you get a critical mass and some time behind it? I love what Facebook and Twitter have done for me, but feel a great deal of fatigue after only a couple of years. Talking to people IRL is very attractive these days. We've gotten ahead of ourselves.
- John Kress
John: exactly. Plus, now that blogs have real time conversations thanks to Disqus and Echo we can pimp a URL and have conversations over there.
- Robert Scoble
Robert: Yeah it seems that SF is ahead of the rest of the world. For now, I'll use Google Reader for my news source. But sure, if Swedish news, blogs, websites etc. started to use Twitter I may change my mind,
- Patrik Johansson
I remember that, Robert. You used to link FF convo's on Twitter a lot. While you're probably correct that some of the big wigs don't have the time or desire to talk, there are still those of us that enjoy discussion. Am I going to notice that people like Tim aren't present? Absolutely not. Just like I don't expect P. Diddy to take the time out to chat with me when I want to discuss the music industry.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Rahsheen: funny, P Diddy is probably over at MySpace having conversations with his fans. I know a lot of musical groups do that. Why there? Because there's money there. Fans buy music.
- Robert Scoble
Patrik: yeah, eventually you'll see that Twitter takes over the world. Even in France most of the entrepreneurs were on Twitter and the media was talking about it a lot.
- Robert Scoble
Rahsheen: the reason I don't link to FF much anymore is because I can have real time conversations back on my blog now. A year ago I couldn't.
- Robert Scoble
Robert: So when does the big backlash come, and what does it look like? (Online vs real life)?
- John Kress
John: a good percentage of divorces are already mentioning Facebook. How do you know the backlash isn't underway?
- Robert Scoble
Corvida, I don't think there is any turning back. Ashton, Oprah, Brittany, and all their minions have invaded the space. Eben Pagan, Mike Dillard, Steve Kern and the like have all discovered social media and are making money off of it. I think it's a lost cause in that regard...
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Corvida: those conversations have moved over to blogs like those from Louis Gray and Jesse Stay for the large part.
- Robert Scoble
Hrm...I guess most bloggers should be happy about that. There was a time when comment fragmentation and losing the discussion was a serious concern. I wonder what everyone thinks about that now.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Robert: I think the backlash is underway. But, naturally, the whip has a long tail.
- John Kress
Robert: Or a short head in this case.
- John Kress
lol @John. Rahsheen we're happy, but that doesn't mean we didn't adjust to the way things have been for the past 2 years before Disqus and real-time web stuff. Twitter WAS the only real-time web, besides FriendFeed, last year. I like that they've moved back to blogs, but I don't talk about every tech topic that comes to mind on my blog. I like the random tech convo's across the web, where either you're there to participate in the convo or you're not.
- Corvida
True, I can't say that I've caught most of the convo going on on blogs. I have definitely become used to the blogs being discussed on places other than the blog itself. Maybe I need to change my strategy...again.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Rahsheen: Exactly! Plus, I don't want to crowd my blog with too many discussions in one day.
- Corvida
I'd settle for the days of acknowledging one another.
- Kelli Schmith
I don't have conversations on Facebook and I am normal! (as I am not a professional, just a retired Granny) TBH I hate Facebook! Only on there because family asked me to be on there. I'd rather have a conversation on here or a live chat facility. Its better to discuss things on here or in comments on your blogs. I love blogging
- Sandra Large
Robert: you are a couple of years ahead. But you also have a different behavior when it comes to news consumption: we are building feedly for people who have the time to check their favorite websites, topics, brands one or two times a day and want to do it through something that looks like their own personalized magazine. Regarding this discussion I agree that the internet has lost a little bit of something since most people moved to twitter and the conversations on friendfeed dried up.
- Edwin Khodabakchian
Rational, Twitter usage is flattening, people are finally figuring out that Twitter sucks for having a conversation. People though Friendfeed was hard to use, try having to install several software 'crutches' to be able to use Twitter productively without even half the functionality as Freindfeed.
- Jeff P. Henderson
Either this is tounge in cheek or Robert really hasn't gotten over our breakup... Robert, I hope we can still be friends but we have to move on and grow... FriendFeed will always love you, but we need some 'us' time to find out who 'we' are... *cues The Bodygaurd soundtrack*... *walks out into the rain, adjusts collar, walks off down the road*... *fade to black, credits*

Comment bait. Even Robert can't generate interest these days.

I agree. Friendfeed is for those who need more from a 2d interface. Until there spatial interface is there, Friendfeed is on top of the pyramid (especially when one knows how to use it best).

- Jason Williams
from iPhone
Robert is waiting until 2010 to respond to this thread. :)
- Louis Gray
Scoble - I disagree ONLY because I think that FriendFeed activity is already migrating to Facebook via deeper integration over there but I'm wiling to hear you out (as are the other 40+ people commenting here). Do share why you think this is true?
- Aaron Strout
I wrote this tweet for Twitter, not for FriendFeed. But nice to see you all! :-)
- Robert Scoble
Jason: I'm definitely irrelevant if the people calling me irrelevant don't even have 1,000 subscribers. Sigh.
- Robert Scoble
I actually see FriendFeed growing instead of slowing and there will also be new enhancements. A testing ground for Facebook. Just to expand, Robert's still the man!

@Jason Williams, wow that's the pot calling the kettle black, doncha think? Robert's not a troll.
- Jason Huebel
@Kol, somebody mentioned that those stats often only consider US visitors (why that would be, I don't know). FF's non-US contingent has grown tremendously, so that graph may not show the whole picture.
- Jason Huebel
I'm finding that FriendFeed is fiendishly sticky. On Twitter lists do help, they make twitter better and all but but but-but I think a lot of users are getting more sophisticated in their web usage faster than Twitter can evolve their tech. Louis Grey recently postulated that even if there is no interaction on FriendFeed it makes complete sense to stay riding this horse. That got me...

Just read this on Anchor's site regarding their holiday ale: "Each year our Christmas Ale gets a unique label and a unique recipe for the Ale itself. Although our recipes must remain a secret, many enthusiasts save a few bottles from year to year—stored in a cool dark place—to taste later and compare with other vintages. Properly refrigerated, the beer remains intriguing and drinkable for years, with different nuances slowly emerging as the flavor mellows slightly."

Chris, I would love to say they're mine, but it's not true. I've had them for a while, but I'll find the artists names. It will just require a little backtracking. Besides, they deserve the credit; all I did was find them:-)

I had my doubts about a few of them because I collected them from several different sites over time, but the site Kol found has done a great job pulling together an impressive collection of these drawings and more. Take a look - http://www.flickzzz.com/2009...
- Michael Fidler
Actually there are more than what this site shows. There's an entire set with the cats(little cats), which I have, and there's a new portrait set.
- Michael Fidler
Found your post here, Michael. :-) I tried my best to find the artists.
- Kol Tregaskes
Amazing and very very very good.... Very impressive ...
- Linda Zeek-Bobinski
Yeah we know, thanks though, James. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Excellent pictures - how long did it take you to scan the photographs into Photoshop and then edit them? The only pencil that has come into contact with these "drawings" is the Photoshop pencil. A tip - stop trying to fool people into thinking you are a "real" artist, because all you are doing is cheapening proper artist's works whom have spent hours creating real pictures as opposed to a few minutes on a graphics editing package.
- The Wimp
A bell does ring here. And I am remembering why I was so attracted to the tiger...and the lion for that matter. These are exact replicas of prints I had in our bedroom when I lived in Dallas. I had bought the prints (in color) at a department store,
- Melanie Reed
Actually, I have learned quite a bit about these drawing since I made this post. Not only have I discovered all of the artists, but I've learned more about how they are created. They are always copied from a photograph or painting, but usually a photograph. It is extremely time consuming and detail orientated work. There are many other artists besides the ones featured here who practice...

- Michael Fidler
Most of them have portfolio's on deviantart.com and their work is truly amazing even if they are copies of other artists work. I suppose with this level of detail, they have to start with something. Nevertheless, I'm still in awe of their talent. Melanie, the animal prints you refer to are from a very well renowned photographer. The originals are B&W I'll look it up later but I do have...

Actually, as far as I can tell, Like in FB does do something: it's basically an empty comment, so you get notified of new comments that occur after you Like it.
- Mistletoe Glen
@Glen: it's true but what bothers me most is that unlike friendfeed, fb delivers a separate mail for every person that comments on that post. #lame
- 'Like' robot (frɐnc)
I would just like to go on record here and clearly state that, were I able to do what this lion is doing, I WOULD NOT! NO! NEVER! EVER! Thank you.

Sir, randomly linking to your FriendFeed from one of my posts is oh wait you'll never see this because you're blocked for spamming. Thanks anyway, kaghazrangy.
- Akiva Moskovitz
damn this picture just won't go away - you have forced me to hide it
- William Harryman
Akiva, wasn't that pic taken at your last BBQ?
- Paul
Every time I see this picture I smile. Their joy is infectious, like herpes.
- Sparky
Paul, I surely do wish I had a beach in my back yard!
- Akiva Moskovitz
Sparky, I'm going to have this blown up to poster-size and attaching it to the ceiling above our bed. That'll cause some infections!
- Akiva Moskovitz
makes me want to grow a rack and diddle with my own, know what I'm saying?
- sofarsoShawn
this. . . .this. . . ugh . . . so fucking wrong.

Akiva - you can put anything you want above our bed.
- Sparky
i've been trying to formulate a comment for this for days, but i just...can't.
- joey
I still want to know the motivation here. is this a gay marriage argument? or are we already pushing group social contracts on friendfeed?
- Noah David Simon
oh man this one keeps popping up on ma friendfeed,....must spread virus nao
- Chris Hofmann
I'm surprised no one's noticed old boy's red-framed glasses.
- Akiva Moskovitz
oh right... the glasses are so important when three asian men are licking his nipples and all the comments are by people who think gay marriage has something to do with equality... when it has everything to do with taking protections away from children. the red glass glasses.... um yeah. chicken and Oklahoma with milk
- Noah David Simon
Mark, you have uncovered the dark underbelly of humanity except in this case it isn't dark but is rather a pasty hue somewhere in the vicinity of undercooked flan.
- Akiva Moskovitz
This should be in the default noobie FF stream. Like the first thing anyone who signs up sees. If they stick around they're part of the family.

i think if you unlike and delete all your comments anna it'll go away, but hide in general would be nice too (this photo makes me smile every time it pops up so don't mind it)...

It will go away, to be replaced with photoshops of the original. It's all part of the meme lifecycle.

I'm officially going to proclaim that this is the FF equivalent of Goatse or FFoatse if you will. Lets all refer to it as that from this point forward.

Chrisitan just walked by and said "It's too early in the morning for Japanese titty licking." It's NEVER too early for Japanese titty licking.

As much as I am loathe to bump this post, I have to do it to say, You, sir, are a master. Well played, sir. Well played. This is why I take every opportunity to say, in my next life, I want to be Akiva. I've already called it! Don't anybody go getting any more ideas.

I, for one, refuse to "bump" posts...it's very unseemly...

For the life of me, I'll never understand the emotion people have around this picture for or against. There's no nudity at all, not even implied nudity. Less dude nudity than a beer commercial or cigarette ad, yet there are people who really really really hate this picture.

The bumping algorithm includes things like novel people posting to it, in addition to thread age, and rapidity of comments. If the same 3 people are talking in a thread, it quits bumping because it's obviously a closed tea party.
- Matthew DeVries

On Fark, there was this one thread, that just kept growing and growing. On Fark, it was a single page per thread. And you could post images and gif inline. Well the thread wouldn't die, people just kept posting. I forget which one it was. Anyway, it got so monsterous, that few people going to read/post to it per day (which was only a handfull) accounted for 1/3 of the server load of the site. They eventually had to cull that thread.

It’s a sweet but unremarkable sight, a young panda dozing off in the midday sun. But keeling over into the hard paving, this quick-witted bear awoke in the brink time and executed a perfect forwards roll. The sleepy panda, named Tai Shan, could have fallen flat on his face. But instead he dropped his head between his legs and turned gently head-over-heels before landing comfortably on his back in pleasant surprise.

My opinion: I think FriendFeed rooms make excellent real-time collaboration tools
- Jesse Stay
I'm having issues with the unorganized mess that is Wave, even in a collaboration setting. With a few more tools to enable better sharing (they're close), I think FriendFeed could accomplish what Wave is doing in a much more organized and better way.
- Jesse Stay
FriendFeed would also need to standardize, and open source the entire platform (beyond just Tornado)
- Jesse Stay
wave could be used as the backend for the next version of friendfeed - it allows for threads, edits, attachments - all distributed
- bear (aka Mike Taylor)
Bear, good point - is it necessary though? Could FriendFeed just open source its existing technology and enable a protocol to standardize it all?
- Jesse Stay
IMO Wave is a bit too much. I like how organized FriendFeed is - I'm about to encourage the Waves I'm on to move over to rooms over here because it's much easier to track the conversation and collaboration over here.
- Jesse Stay
i'm just saying that the document that is the core of each wave and it's method of storing changes *could* be used to form the threaded conversation behind each post in friendfeed. that's the part of FF that they haven't opensourced - the data model.
- bear (aka Mike Taylor)
Jesse, I use wave at work for my 5 person team... It has cut intraoffice email by 90%.
- Johnny Worthington
from iPhone
I agree. However I think they would be just as good just open sourcing what they already have rather than implementing completely new technology to power it all. FriendFeed already has a threaded conversation model - they just need to open source it and they'd have the same thing as Wave.
- Jesse Stay
Johnny, how do you like it as compared to just using a private FriendFeed room?
- Jesse Stay
BTW, I agree it's better than e-mail. So is IRC in some contexts ;-)
- Jesse Stay
Um, as far as I can tell from people who know about these things, federation of shared real-time data across servers is not a "they can just do it" level of difficulty.
- Chieze Okoye
Jesse... I like it cause we deal with a lot of changing PDFs and images etc. FriendFeed is good but I was able to pitch a Google product to my boss better.
- Johnny Worthington
from iPhone
Johnny, the convincing towards adoption is a biggie, I understand. I'm hoping Facebook decides to push FriendFeed more in the future, and that they see this. With that, I think more people and businesses will have trust over it as a collaboration tool
- Jesse Stay
Well that leaves me out since nobody ever talks to me on the Wave.
- Judy Jones
friendfeed is more accessible from a variety of devices, I think it is more intuitive, wave has a much bigger learning curve
- Robert Higgins
Big difference is that you can't embed things like maps etc or have bots do cleanup/translation/etc - but if it's just text, links, images etc (the stuff that ff does do) and you're looking for just conversation/collaboration/brainstorming then friendfeed is great ... friendfeed is to wave as twitter is to friendfeed
- Chris Heath
Chris, Good analogy. I don't think facebook needs most the advanced functions of wave but the friendfeed features would certainly improve sharing and interaction within Facebook. For business collaboration the embeddable objects and bots of wave make it far better than a private FF group.
- Chris Myles
I totally agree Chris... I do agree with Jesse's other guess (at least I think it was Jesse) that FF is the Facebook R&D playground for new features (like the OAuth thing that just happened) -- or at least that would be a good idea for Facebook to use FF in that fashion
- Chris Heath
I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around this one. A thought provoking and interesting idea.
- Mark Davidson
from BuddyFeed
Chris.. Hopefully R&D will include *easier ways* to share more content IF facebook actually wants data to search (especially for pages). Adding an RSS feed is horrible if your content includes ANY embeds/iframes.. So Page Notes are out (unless you just add a feedburner summary). I can add apps or flash (to improve my page) but then what DATA is available for facebook to search?
- Chris Myles
I wanted to use WAVE for fiction writing collaboration with another couple authors but I'm not finding it intutive certainly not as simple as a wiki would be. I'm not Mr Tech so that could be barrier but these are not functions that either ff or twitter can really replicate so I do wish I got got wave
- WarLord
WarLord have you tried Google Docs for collaboration? You could back it up with a private FF group for side discussions.. You could probably even load the document change feed into the group for discussion (although I just checked and that feature seems to have disappeared !?!?!).
- Chris Myles
One thing that I'm missing from FriendFeed for it to be Wave-like are gadgets. Like a certain conference gadget(shameless plug). IMHO gadgets are the most powerful piece of the Wave puzzle. FriendFeed groups would be killer for Wave, the stuff you can do with Groupy bot is kinda cluttered and disorienting.
- James Williams
I've actually been looking at Etherpad lately as a way to possibly make a Wave-lite experience in hopes of getting people to graduate to Wave.
- James Williams
Chris thats a good thought I had some small stuff on Google Docs but that plus FF group might be a soft way to get everybody moving then if we move to wave as we get comfortable...
- WarLord
James, didn't Google just buy Etherpad?
- Chieze Okoye

Arguably unlike the newly remade Beetle, this remake of a VW classic is remarkably true to the original on the outside - but on the inside it is a bio-diesel hybrid stuffed full of high tech gadgetry and eco-friendly innovations."

Super cool VW Bus making a comeback...
- Walt Ruppar
First of all, I'll cop to wanting one of these. That being said, Jason is right. This is for rich hippies (who probably aren't hippies at all). The VW microbus became the darling of the Flower Power crowd because it was cheap, easy to repair, and big. You could camp in it. Is there a car today that fits this bill?
- Chris Baskind
wow, you can buy an awful lot of pot with $129,000.
- Thomas Hawk
I don't know a self-respecting hippie that would prefer this over a really nice indoor greenhouse. ;-)
- Chris Baskind
@Chris, Most cars today aren't as simple, but with the wealth of knowledge online, it just takes more time. The minivan/SUV can become a camper van with a few mods. They'll never take the place of the VW, but they're an updated version of the 70s panelvan conversions (hopefully without shag carpeting & a disco-ball).
- Steven Cains
Nope: there will never be anything that simple again. That's not all bad: I can't imagine a 1960s VW Minibus would satisfy *any* federal safety standard these days. You're right. A used minivan might be the closest thing.
- Chris Baskind
Very Cool. You can't drive your house but, you can sleep in your Van !!!
- Eric Logan
Very intriguing. How much steel is in that thing? Chris, that would be my next question after fuel consumption: how safe is this thing? And I agree, when we can go back to making transportation that costs less than a small home, we may have achieved something amazing. ;)
- Melanie Reed
However, I have heard (and I'm not remembering where at the moment) that there has been a movement growing of people seeking alternative housing and substituting things like this as the new "mobile" home.
- Melanie Reed
Everyone is loving this! We should have an FF one and use it to travel to all the FFers around the World (like Pea seems to be doing ;-)). Hehe. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
cool idea, kol. the ff-stream of this tour would be alltheawe. just imagine the photos.

I've owned 5 VWs, two of which were split window vans. I'd love to have another, this is awesome!
- Rick Bucich
from twhirl
I have had more VWs than other cars...starting with a 71 Superbeetle, and a Split Window Microbus. I would LOVE to have something like this.
- Kreg Steppe
Good for grandparents to visit grandchildren and children through the European continent (or another one as well)...nomadism-revival!
- Isabelle Ayel
wow i posted this a while back and now can't seem to find it for some reason. friendfeed's search function really sucks!
- Cee Bee
So after reading this article yesterday, I found myself this evening in front of a local place that specializes in reconditioning old VWs. It was closed, but there's an awesome red and white microbus out front with a For Sale sign on it. Ugly, underpowered -- and probably dangerous, by modern standards. Want. ;-)
- Chris Baskind
Cee, really? I find FF search is pretty good.
- Kol Tregaskes
I love this Mobile...owned a few Vdubs, lived in a VW camper, but this is off the hook..I would become a true nomad with this...
- bcultral
I'd like to have something like this, something small. What do you really need? A bed, perhaps a TV and room for your computer. Then you can live anywhere you like, in theory.
- Kol Tregaskes
Who is this Canadian designer Alexandre Verdier? Seems like he is on Facebook, Linked In but I can't seem to find anything else about him.
- Brian Sullivan
We had a wesvalia built Micro when I was a kid. I loved that thing. It was a little flimsily built; but boy it was perfect for my family of campers and road-tripping warriors. Too bad this one is so pricey

"After losing contact with Earth, Astronaut LEE MILLER becomes stranded in orbit alone aboard the International Space Station. As time passes and life support systems dwindle, Lee battles to maintain his sanity – and simply stay alive. His world is a claustrophobic and lonely existence, until he makes a strange discovery aboard the ship. Driven by the powerful music of ANGELS & AIRWAVES, “LOVE” explores the fundamental human need for connection and the limitless power of hope… A high-impact visual adventure, that resonates a common truth, that everyone has a story to tell and something even greater to leave behind."
