"I'm trying to do meditation in the car to lessen my anger while driving. I simply try to focus on my breathing and remember that mistakes happen but how I react determines how much those mistakes will affect me in a painful way. Another method I try to use is seeing the rude drivers as people suffering greatly. They are unhappy inside, so they lash out at others because they don't know how to handle their pain. They are like a wounded animal that tries to bite you even though you aren't trying to hurt them. They are confused and don't know how to solve their problems, so they blame everyone out of ignorance and delusion. It helps me have compassion toward them instead of anger, which calms my mind rather than succumb to the ego's desire for vengeance."

"I want to start with some apologies. For the record, here and upfront, I apologise for having spent several years ripping up GM crops. I am also sorry that I helped to start the anti-GM movement back in the mid 1990s, and that I thereby assisted in demonising an important technological option which can be used to benefit the environment. As an environmentalist, and someone who believes that everyone in this world has a right to a healthy and nutritious diet of their choosing, I could not have chosen a more counter-productive path. I now regret it completely. So I guess you’ll be wondering – what happened between 1995 and now that made me not only change my mind but come here and admit it? Well, the answer is fairly simple: I discovered science, and in the process I hope I became a better environmentalist."

Read this, from one of the founders of the anti-GM foods movement. This is very good, and it unsurprisingly praises the work of Norman Borlaug (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...), whom I consider to be one of the great unsung heroes of the 20th century.

10 Years ago today I started dating my awesome husband Kevin!!! I can't imagine my life without him now. The photo is from 5 months later, but it was as close as I could find. :) Love you Kevin!
Fun to see the different colors of anemones. Yesterday I took my daughter and her boyfriend to Natural Bridges in Santa Cruz. Today, headed to Fitzgerald Marine Reserve and Pillar Point.
Tuesday at the beach (Pescadero and Bean Hollow), at an unusually low tide. Fun seeing things I don't normally get to see, and watching the birds who enjoyed picking at this exposed food.
I'm going back Saturday afternoon. If anyone else is going out there, let me know and we can meet up! :) Tides will be better Saturday than they were Tuesday. They're best on Friday though.

Ok, I'm going BOTH Friday and Saturday :)

Buster got a new home for Christmas! He has gone to live with one of FriendFeed's own founder. Paul an April!! He took right to his new home. He is a lucky little kitty! #foxfosterkittens
Cats sleep a lot. Might not be the best match for Louis Gray.
- Amit Patel
Oh good, I might see him as he grows :-) I can't get over how adorable he is!

Aww, I had three kitties once, two brothers and a sister, named Angel, Devil, and Buster. Buster was a stumpy-tailed guy and not the sharpest crayon in the box, but so loving. Dang I miss those kitties.

Have you ever met a kitten that was possible to not love, Rachel?
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
Yes I have Alex! I have had one or two little foster kittens that were just kind of jerks. But most of my kittens are awesome in one way or another and I love them all. There are just some that are more special, more unique with huge and different personalities. Of course not all kittens show their full personalities till they are older, and I wouldn't notice while I have them. But...

Considering how many kittens you've dealt with, one or two isn't bad!
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
Yup, out of 50 kittens I would say I have had 1 kitten that was a jerk, 1 kitten that was a little bit of a jerk and there are probably 20 kittens that stand out for being above average in one way or another with 2-4 of them that are extra special to me. And all the rest still great lovable kittens. Those ar great odds!
- Rachel Lea Fox
James, Pablo is our 48th foster kitten. If I let myself keep all the kittens that I feel in love with I would have 50 cats instead of just my 2 current girls. I adore him, he is one of the top tier of all of them, but sadly I can't keep him. :(
- Rachel Lea Fox
This means someone Rachel knows should adopt Pablo so she can get updates. :)
- Bash
You are truly my inspiration on how I will live the latter portion of my life. I could step over to the side of owning 50 cats though.....
- Janet:#TeamMonique
How do we convince Paul to adopt Pablo, too?
- Corinne L
Yes, Paul and April should take Pablo, too. Brothers shouldn't be separated. ;)
- Gimminy
No, Buster is the star of Paul and April's 4 legged family!! Pablo is a good independent kitty and needs his own special family. I miss him so much!! I've been bawling half the day!!

I did consider adopting Pablo, too, but having two kittens would be beyond our capacity right now. We can only handle one furry quadruped at the moment.

I understand, April. It sure would have been fun to see pics of the pair growing up on FF. And hearing that Pablo was renamed GOB...or Michael... ;-D
- Corinne L
I'm just so pleased that April and Paul adopted Buster and I have another baby in a good loving home where I get photos and updates! I'm so happy to know so many loving people who have opened there doors and hearts to tons of my foster kittens!! I know Pablo will also find a good home. The initial separation is just very hard. :)

2012 has been a long year. It has been an eventful year full of challenges. But with those challenges came strain, as if I had done innumerable reps lifting weights that were beyond the capacity of my strength and endurance. I have been left sore and feeling like I pulled a muscle or two. But with the micro-tears of muscle fibers, new growth can...
...occur. With the strain of exercise comes increased strength and stamina. I've had the workout of my life in 2012; in mind, body, and spirit. I've overcome challenges that another version of me would have shirked. I am confronting my fears, but not in an aggressive way. (Admittedly, that is what a lesser evolved me would have thought to do.) I've learned to face my fears head on with...

I'm picking up on a nice tingly, warm, and fuzzy feeling about 2013. I sense that it will be a year of unity and harmony. I pray that it will come true.
And if I'm wrong, then whatever.
I did say to myself that I was aiming to make many mistakes this year. ^_^
Should old acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind? Should old acquaintance be forgot, and auld lang syne? For auld lang syne, my dear, for auld lang syne, we'll take a cup of kindness yet, for auld lang syne. And surely you'll buy your pint cup ! and surely I'll buy mine ! And we'll take a cup o' kindness yet, for auld lang syne. We two have run about the slopes, and picked the daisies fine; But we've wandered many a weary foot, since auld lang syne. For auld lang syne, my dear, for auld lang syne, we'll take a cup of kindness yet, for auld lang syne. And surely you'll buy your pint cup ! and surely I'll buy mine ! And we'll take a cup o' kindness yet, for auld lang syne. We two have paddled in the stream, from morning sun till dine; But seas between us broad have roared since auld lang syne. Pablo is getting his operation today. The Humane Society scared me when they called off schedule. For a minute I thought something horrible had happened. But no, they are just running behind and I need to pick him up late. Still, scared me there. Pablo is such a good little boy!
Another big storm coming today. I was checking the yard, making sure drainage channels weren't blocked, when I stepped on something squishy. Looked down. A pile of dead rats.
They were up against the fence that got slammed last storm. I'm guessing they got washed downstream until the stream hit my fence, and then they all died.

"In America, if the word “control” is anywhere near a social policy issue, then to your left will be its unwitting executor: psychiatry. “They already decide financial benefits, criminal responsibility and who gets more time on tests, so why not mandate a psychiatric clearance for gun owners!” Because it’s madness. Of course I’m not opposed to this in theory, because in theory is the only place where it would be conceivably valid or reliable. In practice you will have a guy judge you based on his own prejudices, or his fear of lawsuits, or on the negotiated fee. Why not have a gypsy run some tarot cards? At least when it all goes bad you can blame the cards. Which is the whole point: the system is designed to fail in specific and predictable ways, because a tragedy that is the result of a failure of the system is much easier to live with than a tragedy that happens for no reason, even though they are equally common and equally dead."

Surely total prohibition is the answer. We need a new Constitutional Amendment to repeal the 2nd Amendment.
- Gabe
Alcohol prohibition didn't work, organized crime made millions selling the stuff to willing patrons in speakeasys. What in the hell makes anyone think prohibition for guns will work? It won't because the only people that will have guns ARE THE CRIMINALS! It doesn't matter if the 2nd Amendment is repealed or not. The only people that would effect are law abiding citizens. Go ahead and trust your local police dept. and let me know how well that works for you.
- John Blanton
Well, of course alcohol prohibition was a total failure. It was repealed in barely a decade! The federal drug prohibition, on the other hand, has lasted for most of a century. Surely that's not a failure, right?

"While billions around the world await the Mayan Apocalypse this Friday with increasing dread, there is palpable excitement about it at the headquarters of Google, Inc., which is preparing what its C.E.O. is calling “our most awesome Google Doodle ever.” “People are freaking out about the world coming to an end—I totally get that,” said the Google C.E.O. Larry Page in a conference call with reporters. “But at Google we view the Apocalypse as a unique opportunity. This company was founded with the goal to ‘organize the world’s information’ and we see the next three days as our chance to get that done.” As for the marching orders that Page gave to Google’s team of designers: “The world is going to be destroyed and mankind will cease to exist. Make Google the last page they see, and give us one last chance to serve them tracking cookies.”"

"And we should all stop saying, “if you’re not paying for the product, you are the product,” because it doesn’t really mean anything, it excuses the behavior of bad companies, and it makes you sound kind of like a stoner looking at their hand for the first time."
