Heavy pc and crt, ok, but the subwoofer too? You know how heavy those things are? This would work in space maybe.
- Josh Haley
And I wonder where it's getting powered from. Is there an extension cord behind him, or maybe he's got a generator attached to his feet?
- Costa Walcott
But which way would it point? Or should there be two, one aimed at his face, and one on the visor of his hat, to see what he can see?
- Ladybug Heather
It's a 'Trojan Horse'!! The hollowed out tower contains 8 Macbook Airs, 25 iPhones, a G1™[product placement by Google] and a handful of Newtons - just waiting to be deployed!
- Micah Wittman
There is a distinct lack of cup holder.
- Rochelle
True... where does the Mountain Dew go? Or coffee or Jolt Cola or whatever caffeinated substance he drinks?
- Ladybug Heather
Rochelle: thats what the CD Drive tray is for.
- Roberto Bonini
I think you need more monitors. I can barely live with three. I could really use a few more. :) (Then I could give Scoble a run for his money)
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
from PeopleBrowsr
Rob, I agree - I do need more monitors. :-)

"BumpTop is a fresh and engaging new way to interact with your computer desktop. You can pile and toss documents like on a real desk. Break free from the rigid and mechanical style of standard point-and-click desktops. Interact by pushing, pulling and piling documents with elegant, self revealing gestures. BumpTop's stunning interface makes clever use of 3D presentation and smooth physics-based animations for an engaging, vivid user experience. BumpTop has people talking. A video of the BumpTop interface is the most watched video of software on YouTube, ever. Other stories include NY Times, PCWorld, MIT Tech Review, Digg (twice) and others. BumpTop was also presented at TED 2007. We are in active development of the technology, stay tuned to the mailing list for release information." -- BumpTop is not publicly available just yet, but sign up for the mailing list to be the first to try it. We're in private beta at the moment.

Anthony I've tried it. If you're a customization junkie then this is a great addition for your desktop software. For those that live on the web, it won't be all that great. I still love it though.
- Corvida
James you can't invite people to download the software. You'll have to go to the site and register for an invite.
- Corvida
Frederic http://friendfeed.com/frederic had a few invites going last week, not sure if he has any left now though... It's xp/vista only too which is why i passed on it. Looks cool though
- Zee.
from IM
Pretty but useless. Who wants the same clutter as your desktop?
- fbrunel
i don't know fbrunel...after seeing it in action, the idea of knowing where you put things like you would in a room...and yet having almost unlimited space to play with - it could work. Need to play with it properly though before knowing for sure though, you could be right.
- Zee.
It looks like there now is a mechanism to send out a limited number of invites, I'm assuming it's to the beta and not just to the beta sign-up. I sent one to @Havaslash and I'll be glad to send others out, if people can confirm that it is a real invite to use the software.
- Aram Zucker-Scharff
I'm sorry, but why simulate a interaction system that we only (used to) deal with because of the restraints of physical space? Sometimes, it doesn't make sense. That said, I would still love to try this out.
- Chieze Okoye
I'd like an invite. This would be greatly efficient when applied to touch interface (Microsoft Surface). The renovation is that when digitals contain physics, they can be more easily sorted (like the crumple, pile, hang, card decks, etc)
- brainno722 (Peter)
I've been waiting for awhile for this to become active. I love the concept of organizing like the real world.
- Shawn aka ringking
I guess I just don't see why this would be any better than a Windows GUI-like folder system augmented with a good system-wide search (a la Google Desktop, Windows Search or Spotlight). I just need convincing that directly mimicking the physical interaction like this is, at the end of the day, actually 'better' somehow than simply approximating it (as we do now). It seems like a lot of 3d overhead for not much gain (if any at all)...
- Chieze Okoye
...That said, I *could* see how something like this on Surface would be pretty awesome for fiddling with.
- Chieze Okoye
5) With these lists, he's showing how easy it is to organize data on FriendFeed, aggregate from anywhere, and publish back out other places: http://friendfeed.com/e...
- Jesse Stay
6) He's showing that FriendFeed can be a much friendlier place than Twitter
- Jesse Stay
Finding myself spending way more time on FF than twitter, not even using Tweetdeck really. Especially now that FF can import twitter friends
- Ⓐ ☠ slayerboy ☠ Ⓐ
7) He's showing how easy it is to share and discuss personal stories on FriendFeed, and keep it in one place: http://friendfeed.com/e...
- Jesse Stay
I completely agree. Twitter is a crowd of noise. Friendfeed is always conversations and information. Friendfeed is not only friendlier but once you modify your feed & lists you can consume a great deal more information (and of things you'd actually like to read).
- Keith - @tsudo
The main thing Twitter has over FF is easier mobility. Give me a good Blackberry FF app and it's on!
- Nation Hahn
I want my old Loren back. He is the Don Rickles of Twitter.
- Robb Vaules
All I know is I'm not ever going to a French restaurant with him. Maybe BBQ, but not French.
- Rod Bauer
I'm going to Like this one already ... even without seeing what Robert is going to say.
- Nick in Manila
That reminds me...I owe Loren an apology. Off to email while you complete your thought.
- Ron's Home And Hardware
this is the funniest shit i've seen on twitter for a while. better than the bs bickering all of you seem to get up to on a daily basis. on the plus side, igor seems to have lost twitter (for the time being)
- Terry O'Fee
thats how the good personalities do it in this game. look at arrington. Hes an evil genius. It's not evil in a wrong moral type of way either.
- jason l baptiste
He is playing all of us like a violin and we are falling for it. We are dopes!
- Robert Scoble
you maybe. i'm sitting back and laughing...
- Terry O'Fee
Michael: Is someone forcing you to read things you aren't interested in? Holding a gun to your head? Seriously - not interested, don't read it.
- Renee Hendricks
Not me, I still don't know who the hell this person is.
- Eric @ CS Techcast
Krigsman: because so many people are. We are all self-centered and he is using us in a big play.
- Robert Scoble
he's not evil, he just call it like he sees it and refuses to take part in all of this mental masturbation over the teacup tempests that get whipped up in the twittersphere that really, in the end, amounts to very little. he's a cold dose of reality, which is a refreshing counter-balance.
- Morgan
Terry: I for one will not mourn the loss of igor (hoping it isn't just a short loss).
- Renee Hendricks
He banned me. I haven't the slightest clue why or when. I simply realized one day that he wasn't on my list and went to check. Loren is a nutjob - so I banned him back. He's the Howard Stern of social media.
- shira
Not sure what to make of it, but hey - he's seemingly been on the straight and narrow for the past few hours and I won't stop him.
- Shawn Farner
Susanne - you think he'll give up? I'm guessing he's just sleeping for the time being.
- Terry O'Fee
Terry: me too, truth be told. That is why Loren is brilliant.
- Robert Scoble
"He's the Howard Stern of social media." shira - I think Loren would take that as a compliment.
- Mike Doeff
My primary concern is..uh...why do I care about what 1938media is doing? What has he ever said or don that was useful?
- Rahsheen ™, Coach of FF
I would too. Howard Stern is great. He tells it like it is and never sold out. Not a big fan of his work but he deserves massive props.
- Terry O'Fee
shira: I blocked him here and on Twitter. Rahsheen: after spending time with Loren I realize we are all actors in his big play. He uses our egos and our predictabilities as roles in his play. I see what he is doing and I am in awe of how so many read his lines as if they were on a TelePrompTer. Including me. The dope army has arrived and Loren is its leader. Well played!
- Robert Scoble
He's definitely one I like to follow purely for his brutal honesty. Like a twitter mental sorbet.
- Renee Hendricks
Loren is a master. He plays us as if we were violins.
- Michael French
from twhirl
You can't deny he is good at getting people's attention but his personality is certainly not for everyone. I am still wondering what he actually does for work & to make money with 1938media.
- Johnny Makkar
I know somethiing was up when I got the "Loren Feldman is following you" email. He's been on a bigger than usual rampage the past few days.
- Rob H.
I'm waiting for one of you dopes to write a blog post about this ;)
- Terry O'Fee
Sure it's evil, but on the bright side, at least he's following me now.
- Logan Leger
What's the name of the play? Is it a drama queen, soap opera, or what? It is nothing wrong to be self-centered on a rational ground. It could take some introspection.
- Martin Lindeskog
Robert: Most likely that's the way he's playing it. Even so, I have to admit he's like an evil vice for me.
- Renee Hendricks
Until I become important enough for him to direct his attentions on me, I guess he's just another blow-hard in the social media space. I've watched a few of his vids...he only gets on my nerves. Anyway, I'm a black tech blogger. I don't exist to him.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach of FF
Johnny: entertainers make more money than newsmen
- Robert Scoble
"Or, he's off his meds - Rahsheen ™ " - Don't you mean on his meds?
- shira
Evil Genius. I heard he makes his cash writing for John Stewart ;)
- John Rubier
Agreed. Not sure about the "evil" part - just playing by his own rules. Loren's clearly very good at making people talk about what he wants them to talk about. But it is getting a little creepy all of that "niceness" coming from over in that corner of twitter. I'm wondering how hard it's making him laugh.
- Lucretia Pruitt
Oh Robert - According to Igor, it's your fault he was kicked off of twitter... He's writing a post now with all the latest conspriacy theories...
- Terry O'Fee
Separating the mentally insane from the auditioning performance artists from the militant activists ... is, well, a tough job these days.
- Micah Wittman
Karoli - once upon a time it used to be funny. day after day of link spamming and I'm not too sure anymore..
- Terry O'Fee
ROBERT --- God you're right!! Brilliant - YES.. wow, Loren @1938media is amazing and wicked!
- Susan Beebe
Terry O'Fee - it wasn't funny on CNN either after the first couple of hours. We used to have to tag team those boards to keep them from degenerating into total insanity and even then we weren't always successful. It did spawn some awesome tools for management though. :)
- Karoli
karoli - as long as we can keep the billbo on fox news. he makes me laugh.
- Terry O'Fee
Regarding Igor's post: very funny. I had dinner with Israel's President last year and support Israel. My wife is an American citizen. Now you know why I blocked Igor long ago.
- Robert Scoble
He just went too far Robert, first he bans the french people, then he bans everyone that @ him , its just plain stupid, but after seeing his last tweet http://tinyurl.com/9ocogr I think he might have learned a lesson from someone, maybe its you Robert ;), he just needs to be more social, btw I wrote about him in a blog post : Tutorial for Anti-social people : How acting friendly might be good for you? http://tinyurl.com/84v3rn
- Ahmed
If you think he has learned anything prepare to be called a dope. He is using us all to make a point.
- Robert Scoble
it isn't me he is learning from. I do NOT recommend you follow everyone who follows you.
- Robert Scoble
alright, I understand, but what point is he trying to make?
- Ahmed
yes, Robert, what is the point? The man came out with a video depicting a black tech bloggers as being interested in mostly substance abuse and tracking prostitutes. he then followed this up with videos telling black people they were lame, saying that black people would never "get it together," and absolving white people of racism. so what was his point? that you can get attention or be a comedian to skinheads by "pretending" to be a racist fuckwit? can you please explain?
- Karim
I like how the word "Dope" has recently entered the Web 2.0 lexicon. We can thank Loren for that.
- Hugh MacLeod
Karim: the point he is making is we're all self-centered dopes who will talk about him if he does nothing more than block and then refollow you. Even better, when he abuses us with his "comedy" we talk about him even more. But, this week is all about his blocking and then turning nice. you should see how many people are talking about him. It's brilliant. And evil.
- Robert Scoble
it's NOT brilliant robert... its shows peoples DUMBNESS...like "nick nicholls" above... total sheeple action.... you said it robert... DOPES.. ;o).
- Rob Sellen :o)
I'm more offended by Britney Spears then that little .flv file with a funny Long Island accent
- paul mooney
I knew it, he is using reverse psychology on us, I agree with you Robert, that guy is brilliant.
- Ahmed
I wondered if this was a new skit (like his Imus copycat crap) that he was pulling, but it seemed like way too much effort to engender just a few new yelling videos.
- MiniMage TKDteacher of FF
Robert, at most he is showing that *some* people are self-centered dopes. That's not "brilliant." It's not even news. I'm at a loss to understand your fascination with him and sycophantic adulation of him, given his racist videos for one, and his abuse of you personally for another.
- Karim
+++ Karim... well said... like you say it show THEM as dopes... :o)
- Rob Sellen :o)
Years ago, I'd decided that appearing mildly amused at a person's attempts to cause me discomfort would both make him feel ineffective and as unhappy as he was trying to make me. I wonder if that was Robert's strategy, but giving the offender compliments is an entirely different thing, I think. [grammar corrected]
- MiniMage TKDteacher of FF
Mirroring is the best tactic.... mirror the idiots..and they dont know how to react. :o)
- Rob Sellen :o)
Yes, that's exactly my point, Mini. Any idiot with a $50 web cam can sit in their underwear and make racist videos or act out on Twitter. But as near as I can tell, only one of them gets regularly advertised by Scoble,.
- Karim
Karim: all good points. I never said I was not a dope. To me this is like that twitter phishing attack that was going around yesterday. It is worthy of a conversation because I see so many people falling for this. We're all egotistical baaaahhhhssssttttaaaarrrrrrdddddsssss and sometimes we let that show a bit too much.
- Robert Scoble
yeah, Robert, but you don't *laud* phishing attacks, you don't call them "brilliant." last i saw you talking about phishing attacks, you were saying, "Bad stuff. Be warned." (http://friendfeed.com/e...) and "Do not click [phishing] links..." (http://friendfeed.com/e...)
- Karim
when you said your son fell victim to the phishing attack, you didn't say (like you did above) that the phishing authors are "playing us like violins and we are falling for it. We are dopes!" you didn't say "we are all big actors in [the phisher's] play." you didn't smugly gloat that the phisher now has "a database of 3000 dopes to have fun with."
- Karim
i guess maybe the guy behind the phishing attack could start sending out racist tweets claiming that black people are lame. then you could call him "brilliant" like loren feldman?
- Karim
None of my fellow writers are "guests". They have all the keys.
- Louis Gray
Louis: it's really lame, though, that it says that "Louis Gray posted an entry" here in FriendFeed. I don't know how to fix that, though.
- Robert Scoble
There is a way to select "this blog has multiple authors" and have it only pull in those that I write, but you'll see Mashable, TechCrunch etc. don't make any distinction. The alternative is that "guest" posts would not show up on my feed, but only on theirs, and that would lower the visibility.
- Louis Gray
When you setup a blog in FF, there's an option to specify it's a multi-author blog, and indicate which author is you
- Aaron B. Hockley
from IM
Hey Mike welcome to the guest...err keys to Gray manner club. Great post btw.
- Mark Krynsky
Louis: I guess I don't like it when people lend their name out on FriendFeed. It fools me and it really does piss me off. It pisses me off when TechCrunch does it, but at least there I don't have the expectation that Mike Arrington is doing all the posts. When you use your name on your blog, like you do, I expect that you wrote the content there.
- Robert Scoble
Robert: That is why users need more settings to modify the incoming feed from people they subscribe to. Similar to imaginary friends, and more.
- Rolf Schewe
Robert, by now you should know to check the author, regardless :) Mike, congrats on getting the keys to Louis' place. Great post as usual, quite a few I hadn't even thought of.
- Tim Hoeck
Robert, as we have more writers on the site, that is one of the debates. Do I keep it with my name or get branded? We'll see.
- Louis Gray
Tim: if I stay in China much longer I think I'm going to need the keys to Louis' blog. I can get to his, but can't get to mine! :-)
- Robert Scoble
Louis: you should just change the name to "Louis Gray and Friends."
- Robert Scoble
Scoble, when you are coming back to the states?
- Mike Fruchter
@Scoble, That's excellent. We miss you, hurry up back. Leave the chicken feet behind :)
- Mike Fruchter
I've never really thought about putting FF feeds into Google Reader, might give that a go, thanks Louis.
- Kol Tregaskes
Actually, we (the Mashable writers) do use the multi-author feature of FF ... just Pete's account shows all the posts ...
- Adam Ostrow
It would be really cool if you could comment and like within Google Reader.
- Kol Tregaskes
Louis (or Mike), do you use RSS for your twitter line instead of the actual twitter software (s) out there? That would seem to get overwhelming veyr quickly, no?
- Amani
I use TweetBeep to track specific keywords to my e-mail, and TweetScan to RSS, Amani.
- Louis Gray
Louis Gray and Friends sounds wicked like a childrens show, for some reason I get an image of the Banana Splits and Yo Gabba Gabba! You could also make it like the Indie bands - Louis Gray and the Grayettes :)
- Joe Dawson
Nice idea Joe, but I refuse to be called a Grayette. I do not have legs that people want to see in a skirt.
- Rob Diana
Congrats Mike!!!!!!!!!!! wooo hooo!!!! :) BTW, I like Roberts suggestion of "Louis Gray and Friends"... nice
- Susan Beebe
chicken feet are tasty, but annoying to eat.
- clarke thomas
I love the context that the censors are being more protectionist than nationalist (if there's a difference).
- Andrew
The censors are doing 1 other major thing....limiting the information to the public. If Chinese citizens truly knew how much in the dark ages they are, there'd be a revolt.
- clarke thomas
There isn't much meat on chicken feet. In that sense, those are as bad as wings.
- Morton Fox
Robert, Every time a coworker of mine travels to China, they come back a bit surprised. Was your trip what you expected? If so, how? If not, how was it different?
- Steve Olson
You only know few about China, 对于中国你了解甚少。
- Chris Qie
Steve: I was in China 12 years ago, so I already was prepared. I'm always blown away by rate of change here. It makes New York seem like a country village. Makes Vegas seem minor league.
- Robert Scoble
Very good entry. I especially liked #6 and #7. :)
- Daynah
It works well on my MacBook. Of course my G4 Mac mini does not have the juice to use it well. Will wait for TiVo/Netflix integration.
- Khürt Williams
Shame you'll need Silverlight. I've been avoiding installing that.
- flammable
I tried it on my macbook and it works well but I don't know how much I'd actually use it- good to have the option though
- Eric Truman
This night is an opportunity: please remember that those who voted for McCain are still our brothers and sisters, and we love them... please remember that this nation can be more than it is, and that we can do it *together* <3
B! <33 I'm very good, thank you and no need to ask how you must be feeling today! :) Congratulations on your new President! Other than that good news, how are you? ;)
- Emma
I am well, thank you. I am sad about Prop 8 in California, because I have friends there for whom it is bad news... other than that, I am great! It is heartening to hear people from around the world celebrating our new president. I think this is a huge moment for the whole world. I am excited by the potential... <3
- Bren, Photophobe
I agree, it is sad about Prop 8, it's something that should be and needs to be addressed and sooner than later but I'm very excited about the prospects of your new President ... it was definitely the right result! Night B, sweet dreams! <3
- Emma
Yea, right. China is a communist country the same way the Republican party is the party of small business standing up against Wall Street and the investment bankers and against "socialism".
- Paul Denlinger
That is a great idea.. Next thing you know everyone is going to want free haircuts just like they do in China
- EminiAddict
Hilarious. You will learn aplenty in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, but precious little about communism. Have a great trip; sorry I will miss you in SH.
- sage brennan
By the way, one thing I recommend for any visitor to China is visit a bookstore if possible (even the ones in airports). You'll be shocked at all the business management / capitalism books you'll find (and one tiny shelf of Communist stuff).
- Andrew Leyden
We sure did Mark. What an amazing feeling.
- Carlos Ayala
awesome!!! We're on the way home from an election party where hubby and I were the only ones that wanted to scream in glee. It's still sinking in for me. :))))
- Carmen
