In the quest for URL shortener dominance in this era of the microblog and limited message space, BudURL comes out swinging. Going toe to toe with other URL shrinkers, BudURL combines metrics with URL shortening. - Phillip Barnhart

jQuery is not the only library this concept would work with - but it does show how friendly jquery is when compared to prototype (which I use as a standard) and dojo. - Phillip Barnhart

"As a web architect, I sometimes forget that most of my customers have a different set of skills and knowledge. I have no idea how accounting and depreciation works, so I should expect the CFO to understand how web technology works. Good SEO requires a good deal of client education. The field is full of urban legends, dated techniques, and misunderstanding (when was the last time YOU stuffed keywords in a noscript tag?). Managing expectations are crucial. The disclaimer is a great idea. We should more of these tools (work not guaranteed to work on browsers three releases from now for example)." - Phillip Barnhart

So when we absolutely have to reply to a message they've left, or tell them we're too busy to meet them for lunch, or offer some other minimal gesture of recognition, calling them is far too risky: they might actually pick up, forcing us to interact. It would be far better if we could simply leave a voicemail message, without ever causing their phone to ring. That way, there'd be no muss, no fuss; no dealing with an actual human and all their demands and sensitivities. And that's exactly what you can now do with MobileSphere's new Slydial service, launched yesterday. - Phillip Barnhart

My wife was wondering why 60% of her web site traffic was showing as "direct entry" - she couldn't imagine all of these visitors were typing in her web site URL from scratch. At the same time, I was working with a client that was depending on the `referer` value for some calculations. And something wasn't adding up to them. I couldn't really find a good list of bad reasons for using referers, but I did find a whole lot of partial lists. - Phillip Barnhart
