I love this stuff. Although it reminds me of a art display I once went to called "Bond, James Bond" in which I saw the props for many of the films. The xray prop Bond intro used plastic see-through toys and not real xrays of guns though. Seemed brilliant at the time. - Doug Brooks

"According to the US Energy Information Administration, oil production from drilling offshore in the outer continental shelf wouldn't begin until around the year 2017. Once begun, it wouldn't reach peak production until about 2030 when it would produce only 200,000 barrels of oil per day (in yellow above)." - Doug Brooks via Bookmarklet

The other thing is that they don't yet have a seat on the bus, so to speak, so aren't protecting access they already have. McCain's "punishment" of CNN might actually work big time against him. - Robert Scoble
it could backfire big time though. first they will have to get "tough" on Obama to PROVE their are balanced. also when panic sets in his opponents will resort to lying if that is what it takes to start a new news cycle. I don't like pushing Karl Rovites into a corner. - Ruth Ferguson
"He kept trying to change the subject to Obama.... It's a very typical Republican tactic." That's false, it's a political tactic used by both sides to say that if you answer the question directly, then you accept the premise of the question. I want straight answers from both sides. - Chris Mayer
I'm glad to see the main stream press ask the tough questions and stick to their guns when they don't get strait answers. It goes both ways though and should be equally applied to all parties and points of view. I'm so tired of politicians trying to BS their way out of an answer to a valid question. I hope this trend continues. - Jeff P. Henderson
While tough questioning is good (could have used that the first few years of Bush), too bad the entire motivation for it stems from the fact the MSM was completely snookered on the Palin nomination. None of the talking heads saw it coming and in the days since she was put forward the rumor as fact reporting has been something to watch. - Peter Simard
@Chris Mayer: Were you expecting unbiased political reporting from Dave Winer? - Sean McGee
A change? Hardly. Let's e honest - the larger media groups have been shilling fairly hard for Obama all along until bloggers pushed them into it. The recent US weekly covers on Michelle Obama and Palin are good examples... the owner is openly pro-Obama and using his media tool to push that agenda. I am all for the media getting tough - for every reporter digging up dirt on her 17 year old daughter it would be nice to have one looking into Obama, Bill Ayers and the Annenberg story huh? - Soulhuntre
+1 Sean McGee - Tony Kanzia
I have to agree with Sean, the mediaObamas stint as a completely ignores Obama's utter lack of experience, and then try to paint Sarah Palin as inexperienced? Please! She's been the governor of the largest state in the U.S. with more coastline than all of the rest of the continental U.S. and with more exposure to more international enemies, like Russia, Korea and China than any other region of the country. Palin's leadership experience definitely trumps the short stint of Chicago politician Obama. - pitlord via twhirl
@Sean - My response was directed towards Scoble. I assume he posted that article because it asserts that republicans are the only ones who use that tactic. - Chris Mayer

“Finding that after a week offline and not using FriendFeed, coming back it seems less essential to me.”
August 9 at 9:16 am - Link
and not just FF, generically I mean Twitter/Pownce/Jaiku/FF/Identi.ca/Plurk etc. We need a funny moniker for this class of service. 'Interrupt-to-daters?" - Dave Slusher
I hope they're not too essential for anyone! Infotainment at best. - Paul Reynolds
I certainly don't consider them essential, but they're useful for maintaining relationships with people I don't often (or never!) see. We missed ya, Dave! Welcome back. - Ken Kennedy
Yet there is the rub. You still found it "essential" to share the thought that it (upderupters, or your interrupt-to-daters) was unessential in your opinion. For brief moments not worthy of a blog post or podcast it has become a powerful meme. - Curtis Cross via twhirl
The problem with FriendFeed is that as more people come in, the conversations here are more and more mainstream. FriendFeed has some major problems with ability of focusing the info. Here, try to tell FriendFeed "show me all posts about John Edwards that have two or more likes and two or more comments." You can't do that. Until it does it'll turn more and more noisy and less and less addictive. - Robert Scoble
Hrm. That's a perspective I didn't consider. It's not essential for me to read up on FriendFeed. But it is very nice to shout thoughts out into the cloud on occasion if for no other reasons than self serving ones. - Paul Reynolds
@Scoble: you could just use the search. - Vincent van Wylick
i tend to agree with this sentiment as well. I'm all for memes, but I'm not getting tailored info anymore, just a lot of memes. - Doug Brooks
Lucky for me, a search like "show me all posts about x that have y or more likes and x or more comments" isn't something that even crosses my mind on FF. It's the feeds...of my friends. Of which I don't have 450. So I can actually, you know, read and respond. (note: that doesn't mean that different people can't use it otherwise, it just doesn't apply to me). - Ken Kennedy
Curtis, it's not the writing, it's the reading. I'm with Paul, the sharing feels more important to me lately than getting shared to. And to Ken's point, I almost feel like pulling back my subscriptions even more to a smaller set of people. - Dave Slusher
it all depends on what you're looking for. Also, whether you really jibe with the people that you connect with. It doesn't have to be a real deep personal connection; more a sympathy of thinking and spirits. - linkman77
