A chilling future for new theatre? | Matthew Linley's Blog - http://matthewlinley.wordpress.com/2013...
"In close succession we`ve seen the closure of three venues. The brye theatre in St Andrews and Spa Theatre Felixstowe had already closed their doors when – after a brave battle – the Brewhouse Taunton went into administration. The now unemployed director of the Brewhouse Robert Miles final blog post (now removed) was dignified but clear.  Clear about the economic and social impact of the theatre on the town. Clear too how they’d been left high and dry by their stakeholders. Feelings echoed by former director Colin Blumenau on his blog (But, God damn it, how can a society that prides itself on its culture and its heritage allow it to happen?) whilst one of the brewhouse creditors Pilot Theatre’s Marcus Romer posted his view here.’What happened at the Brewhouse was clearly a terrible blow for the town, the staff and their audiences….But also for the whole wider arts ecology and infrastructure’" - Caron Lyon
Who will pay for actors on the fringe? - Analysis - http://www.thestage.co.uk/feature...
"The tiny Union Theatre in Southwark, London, was named fringe theatre of the year at the The Stage 100 awards in January. Meanwhile, last weekend, the Offies, otherwise known as the Off-West End Theatre Awards, shortlisted productions and players that were seen at the Union and at venues including Southwark Playhouse, the Arcola, New Diorama, Old Red Lion, Finborough, Upstairs at the Gatehouse and the Jermyn Street Theatre." - Caron Lyon
Will it be arts and business or arts vs business? - Arts funding - The Stage - http://www.thestage.co.uk/columns...
"What this will mean to Arts Council England we will see in the next few weeks. Its new, 50% smaller, shape is finished in the summer and Baz, as he likes to be known, sees the priority of his first year to get that right. Whether that will mean tinkering by him isn’t clear – he does not have a reputation as a tinkerer, but he does have the attention of ears in high places." - Caron Lyon
Audience Development for the Arts: Strategy and Research - The Wallace Foundation "The arts - http://www.wallacefoundation.org/knowled...
"“The arts belong to everyone.” That was the conviction of our co-founder Lila Wallace. It has guided our efforts for more than two decades to support arts organizations as they develop and test innovative ideas to reach new audiences so that many more people might enjoy the benefits of the arts." - Caron Lyon

Frank Abagnale on the death of the con artist and the rise of cybercrime (Wired UK) - http://www.wired.co.uk/news...
"Frank Abagnale's early life story has been told many times. A former conman who specialised in impersonation and forgery, he was portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio in the 2002 film Catch Me If You Can. His story has also been told as a book, a musical and is drawn upon in TV series White Collar. At the age of 16, Abagnale posed as a pilot for Pan Am Airlines in order to wangle free flights. He later pretended to be a doctor, before masquerading as an attorney -- " - Caron Lyon
Artsfunding and understanding touring #brewhouse | Marcus Romer's Blog - http://marcusromer.wordpress.com/2013...
"What happened at the Brewhouse was clearly a terrible blow for the town, the staff and their audiences. But also for the whole wider arts ecology and infrastructure. There are companies and artists who are owed thousands of pounds – and some who date back to early October last year who have not been paid." - Caron Lyon
Building Arts Organizations That Build Audiences –Strategies for Expanding Arts Audiences –The Wallace Foundation - http://www.wallacefoundation.org/knowled...
"From sponsoring after-hour events for 20-somethings to finding “ambassadors” to ethnic communities, arts organizations are looking for ways to develop audiences. What works? What doesn’t? And how can successes in audience development be sustained? This report, documenting a June 2011 Wallace conference of foundation-supported arts groups, marketing mavens, researchers and others, provides some potential answers, including encouraging organization-wide learning for audience building." - Caron Lyon
