"Some of the best home cooked meals must be prepared using a cast-iron skillet. But it takes dozens of uses in order to season one, as the food you cook slowly ads its essence to the skillet, creating that famous, non-stick black coating. Seasoning a pan this way can take years... until now. Lodge Pre-Seasoned Cast Iron Skillets ($10-$40) ship pre-seasoned, the result of a secret process that uses vegetable oil and high temperature gas ovens to create the perfect patina. Grills ($140) and Dutch Ovens ($40-$100) are also available. Just don't tell Grandma that you cheated."

I posted mainly because I like that steak sitting up there looking all cute like it knows I want to dive in. :)

My dad and I, we season our own damn skillets.

I need to get myself a good cast iron pan.

I wonder if they do crepe pans. Getting one of those seasoned properly is apparently not as easy as it sounds.

Wow - looking at their website these are actually really cheap for what they are. I'm pondering picking their 12" skillet as my first cast iron pan.

Sparky, that's the one I have. I think I got it at Target for $15-20?

Do you like it Derrick? Would it be a good first Skillet for Sparko? I found it for $24 shipped online.

I love it. I only wish that I had my grandmother's old school stuff she had for years and years. That stuff was slick as all get out. Looking forward to getting mine there too.

Done and done. In 7-14 days it will be at my door. So excited!

Have a couple of them! Use them camping, outdoor cooking, boiling rabbits for revenge...

I've still got my grandmother's set of cast iron skillets and they're awesome!

I use my cast iron skillet all the time--had it for over 10 years, cost me $12 and I seasoned it myself--took about 3 hours in the oven for the initial seasoning. Nothing browns better! (Think meats, caramelizing onions, etc.)

I rememberhaving to convince girl scout group leader not to clean my dad's skillet, as it was treated. She was approaching it with soap. I was yelling. It was epic.

Anyone use cast iron on a glass top stove? I suppose if it's well enameled it wouldn't scratch it. I was a bit leery of using my grandparents old one on it.
