Well, in academia you are paid for 40 hours and expected to work 60-80... and if you're really into your project(s), most of the time you do it quite happily. If companies make the right hires and treat them well, they should be able to tap into that enthusiasm (obsession) *without* the brutality of academia's "do it or we'll fire you, there are 50 lined up to take your place" approach.

I have read once a wise report saying that innovation happens if the controllers are not smart enough. Often enough the problems in companies are coming from far too efficient cashflow management and core competence foci. Both is not very well managed in academia.

I don't think that blogging will die away anytime soon, but that blog frequency will decrease as more people lifestream. I know for me that I certainly do not read many blogs in my RSS feed reader anymore, as I now look to Friend Feed for getting the latest updated news.
