Hasn't worked for me either. My Links and Your Notes do, but not the Status
- Gary Rudolph
Same problem here. Anybody from FF feels like helping?
- Carlo Mastrogiacomo
same here, I follow the seemingly obvious instructions by FF, but error message gives no clue what went wrong. Hard to know if facebook of friendfeed is source of problem. it might help if an example url was displayed. I get 'format not supported" for http://www.facebook.com/feeds... This is the link that google reader (as my default RSS) accepts.
- Lane Rapp
Same problem for me, nothing to do for the status feed :(
- alfredo
Like Gary Rudolph, My Links and Your Notes supposedly work, but not the Status for me.
- Angela Granfield
There are some clues that I've been collecting - search on facebookstatusbroken to see my latest comment with a collection of them. Some accounts can use the methods posted, but others cannot. YMMV.
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
added to the broken list. Please someone help!
- JorgeR
It isn't just FriendFeed, as I've been having trouble with Alert Thingy, too. I fear that Facebook has gone and broken itself somehow.
- Miss Elle
Finally worked after following these instructions http://friendfeed.com/about... to set custom Privacy settings for "Status and Links" and check "Allow friends to subscribe to my status" (confusing thing was that even before changing this settings, I was able to find the "My Links" URL ok)
- Mike Chelen
i still have the problem. even though i checked my privacy setting in facebook...
- Amin
I find it difficult to grasp why this is such a long standing issue, without a definitive statement on how to fix it, or why it won't be fixed anytime soon. (since mine works, I know this must be possible to fix)
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
This is crazy I have been looking for answers to this question for like 2 hours now and can't find any solution that works.
- Sean Pisano
Blame Facebook, they just won't let anything outside it's service. :-(
- Kol Tregaskes
it works for me. i even added people as imaginary friends that dont have friendfeed
- Edgar Rodríguez
I thought after the acquisition it would work but it still doesn't work for me.
- Frederick Bvalani
It's ironic that Facebook puts up such "barriers" yet lets so many crappy broken and ANNOYING apps seemingly run rampant! Just sayin...
- Mark "DerBingle" J
minmax: that is because the walled system depends on the judgment of a small group for approval, whereas a more open system enables a larger pool of users to rate and comment resulting in a higher quality of evaluation

Also having same issue. Freindfeed suggests using the freindfeed app for facebook, but that does not seem to work. The freindfeed app sends my post to freindfeed, but not to facebook status or twitter. As a side note, I have had no problems using www.posterous.com to update all services. One email and its done. I still would like to figure out how to link friendfeed facebook and twitter through freindfeed.
- David Imielski
having same issues with ff updating fb status, won't work... but posterous works everytime...
- Douglas Sandquist
Following the FriendFeed instructions, I got Links and Notes to work but I get "It appears that Facebook does not provide a Status feed for your account." I don't see anything denying my status under Privacy or News Feed under the new facebook, but I'm at a loss. Why is facebook not publishing my status feed? Any ideas or solutions under the "new facebook"?
- Ken & Kiyomi
don't know whether it will help or not, but I have the same issue in my account :/ notes & links are fine, but for the status, this message appears in the settings :/
- Serdar Dalgic
No solution yet? I'm experiencing the same problem right now when trying to recreate my Facebook service here. It used to work before without any problem about the status.
- Rodrigo
Everyone might be getting this same error already or very soon. Facebook updated their security and APIs again yesterday, prompting them to review their Privacy Settings when they log in.
- Ken & Kiyomi

Yes, I did that... and my status updates should be public.

"Stefanie Spielman has died after fighting cancer publicly and relentlessly for more than a decade. The breast-cancer advocate and wife of former football star Chris Spielman died at 6:15 p.m. this evening at her Upper Arlington home in the wake of her fifth bout with the disease. The mother of four was 42. Considering it her life mission to raise money and awareness for the disease, Spielman in 1998 established the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research. "I know there's a reason God gave me breast cancer, and I'm supposed to do something with it," she said that year. As she shared her story throughout central Ohio, her fund raised more than $6.5 million for breast-cancer research, education and patient assistance at Ohio State University's Arthur G. Oz’s temple in the Tibetan mountains is no longer a safe retreat for Buffy and her troops. Discovered by Twilight’s magical agent, Amy, and bereft of their own magic, the army is preparing for a human war with guns, grenades, missiles . . . and MANPADS -- it’s not a laughing matter. People are about to die. But even without her own magic, Buffy is still a Slayer --the Slayer -- and she has to lead the way to victory. Or at least . . . live to fight another day.

Can someone explain to me on Feedly, how would I know there are new news stories in a particular category of mine? On Google Reader there are numbers on the left that show how many new posts there are...where is that on Feedly (without having to click on anything)?
feedly only shows you a category is there are unread articles in that category. You can use drag and drop to order categories. Also if you have more than 7 categories and want to be able to see all of them, if you widen the window > 1060px, you will get a new layout with the category navigation on the left.
- Edwin Khodabakchian
that's wonderful Edwin, really. How do i get unread figures to show in that sidebar now?
- Zee.
@Brent you don't need Disqus actually....you can use Backtype connect which imports comments from elsewhere. But you will then need to integrate twitter commenting and facebook connect yourself
- Zee.
i tried it but never really felt right. You can try JS-Kit's Echo too of course http://js-kit.com/
- Zee.
oh but btw, backtype connect doesn't work with P2 just yet...a fix should be here this weekend though
- Zee.
more like a friendfeed than twitter though automattic is calling it twitter like but P2 is a great combination of blog, twitter and friendfeed
- testbeta
for sure @testbeta . I'm not sure if you've read the post, but i've added a fair bit to the P2 theme to make things work "slicker" and be more social
- Zee.
i am reading it now :) thanks nice post
- testbeta
Why would BackType Connect not work? I use BC on my sites now and it works perfectly.

There's some compatability issue with P2. The guys at BT are looking into it though. Should be fixed this weekend

@Zee pretty cool mashup you thought up there. I think something similar was being discussed over on the OpenFF thread a few weeks ago, but you filled in a lot of the blanks by incorporating Ping.fm and Posterous. Agree with the article. I used to spend a lot of time at Facebook, discovering and reconnecting with old friends. Then I found out I had little in common with those people I went to high school with. It takes more than a common background to maintain a relationship
- Andre P. Siregar
@Andre But hey... if that's the case then how do you explain your attraction to FriendFeed's social dynamic?
- Brad Williamson
@Andre: that kind of means that there wasn't a friendship to begin with. Blaming Facebook is like blaming the cafe where you ran into someone you met 20 years ago and it didn't click.
- Vincent van Wylick
I personally don't hold bad Facebook behaviour against anyone, as long as Facebook allows me to block their idiotic messages.
- Vincent van Wylick
@Brad I use Facebook differently than Friendfeed. At Friendfeed I just follow people who talks about the things I like. So straight away I connect to people with the same interests
- Andre P. Siregar
@Vincent Well, what is friendship in internet terms, really. Somebody wants to 'friend' you based on the fact that you were in the same Calculus class x years ago, and you accepted. Facebook is useful to me for that. But I only 'friend' people I know IRL in Facebook and apparently people I know IRL don't share the same interests with me (I know, sad), so I don't hang out much in Facebook.
- Andre P. Siregar
This works GREAT! Now if I could only select *which* FF entries I want to ship to Facebook, I'd be all set.
- Phil G
I agree with Phil.. even if I could tag things with #FB it would help. My friends are already overwhelmed with my geekness, flooding them with ALL of my FF content would seal the deal!!

Kol, I don't know if we'll hook up (Mona said it was not her idea of a social network, so I'm curious to check that), but yes, we'll certainly test it. :)

From looking at Wave briefly the other day I can easily see it being a social network but, of course, this needs someone to code such a version with the protocol. I've been wishing FF would use the protocol when it was ready, or at least have a Wave version of it's service.

FF better figure out how not to destroy themselves (if possible) with this merger. Friendfeed in the FB interface will not work. I think FF really just f*cked themselves.

I think the most important view in the new Google Reader (next after "All Items" :) ) is the Comment View" It's there all things happens! http://www.google.com/reader...
You only see and can comment on those you are subscribed too. You also need to add all to groups so they can comment and like your stuff.
- Svartling
I already had the feeling after trying several sites that Greader was the best FF replacement, after trying these new features I am now convinced it is. And it is not going away anytime soon.
- M F
Exactly how I thinks too. That's why we need to inform all users to start using it correctly. What is your feed. I would like to subscribe you?
- Svartling
I also feel that Google Reader might be the next Friendfeed. Not yet but with all the new features added, very curious what the future of Reader will be! Following you both now on Reader.
- Nik
I've just added everyone I follow to my 'Friends' group. I didn't realise I had to do that, most were not in a group. Thanks, Svartling. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
I added everyone i follow to a custom group Friendfeeders. But somehow Reader keeps removing everyone from that group and i have to reassign. Am i missing something?
- Nik
Nik: You must have that group in you Contacts in Gmail too. Otherwhise it won't work I think.
- Svartling
Kol I will add all from your thread somewhere when I got the time :)
- Svartling
It is in my Gmail Contacts, that's where i created the group.
- Nik
Then it should work. You must click finish after you add all new contacts to a group in google reader. Maybe you didn't?
- Svartling
I want to click finish but i see no finish. Anyway, i added the Unnamed Contacts that appear in Google Contacts to the group as well. Now it works.
- Nik
Me too, but we desperately need permalinks for our notes, comments and such. Otherwise Google Reader is a closed system just like FaceBook...
- Svartling
GReader is a right pain. It's refusing to save the last batch of people I've added to a shared group. :-( This is the third time I'll be going through my list. :-(
- Kol Tregaskes
They are added, but there is a bug updating the page. If you reload the page you see they are added. At least for me.

Hi Paul, thanks for the assurances. In the future, I would highly suggest that you make this sort of statement shortly after the initial merger release. Thanks again.
- Alex Scoble
I would like to give you a hug right now Paul. However, that would be awkward and April might beat me up so I will just say thank you and press the like button.
- EricaJoy
Thank you for affirming that. Much appreciated.
- Karoli
A few more points that would be nice to have addressed soon. Ability to export data, tool to import friends to Facebook, and will ff.im urls continue to function?
- Mark Krynsky
Those that like friendfeed as is should be most pleased with this statement, as it probably means maintenance to keep the current system as is, without as much attention to new features. It's also good news for all those who like both friendfeed and facebook, as facebook will likely adopt the better features from friendfeed
- Ivan Kirigin
Thanks for making FriendFeed what it is, and lets hope it stays that way, though there's slim chance of that
- Aaman (Clone of FF)
Now that I think about it: are you kidding me? They've already stated that FriendFeed's going to be absorbed into Facebook. What kind of sleight-of-hand are you trying to pull now, Paul?
- Akiva Moskovitz
@EricaJoy: I have nothing against hugs. :)
- April Buchheit
Thanks, Paul. I've been getting more and more depressed thinking about the bad ways this could go. The reassurances help a bit, at least. In fact, just hearing you speak on the point is encouraging - the open lines of communication between the FriendFeed team and its users has always been one of the great things about FriendFeed that I'm afraid will be lost with the Facebook buyout. And yes, a FFundercats appearance would be a great idea.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
I don't want to read too much into this reassurance but the "personal best" remark made me think like there is not a united FF anymore and that it's up to your personal efforts to prevent it from being eaten by FB :)

Turker, I do believe that this deal was the right decision -- I'll write a bit more about that when I get a chance. I say that I'll do my "personal best" because I will -- it would be misleading to make promises on other's behalf :)

Paul: I'm hopeful that this will be the best for both Facebook and Friendfeed. What you and the staff at FF have done is amazing, with only 12 people! I love the service here. I also enjoy Facebook (one I ignore all quizzes and stupid apps), but in a different way. Hoping some coolness can be brought to both. Good luck to you and your team!

Don't know what to say, so lets start with big congrats! from one hand, as an early member of Friendfeed I think we've created here a very cool, collaborative and tech-savvy/passionate community of great people that all probably wish to stick around as much as possible. From the other hand, I know how corporates work and it takes one small decision of share holders to close Friendfeed...

My first reaction is disappointment. I don't believe big corporations do better than small ones. Facebook is inferior to FriendFeed, although it's user base is much larger. Clearly FriendFeed won't survive in the long term, unless it is open sourced. Why not open up and embrace the wonders of the GPL instead of joining forces with the Walled Garden no #1? Facebook don't even operate with permalinks,.
- Morten Blaabjerg
Thanks for the explanation Paul. Of course, I congratulate you guys. I think anyone would do the same thing if they were in your shoes :)
- Turker Keskinpala
Ryo: if you delete your account everything goes away. I totally disagree with you about Facebook, but that's OK.
- Robert Scoble
Good to hear. Unfortunately I think Facebook are going to download the brains of all FriendFeed staff then kill FF.
- Michael McGimpsey
but Paul it is going to disappear - Facebook bought FF not for the site but for you guys. So obviously once its integrated into Facebook, development on FF will stop
- Anthony Feint
If FriendFeed and all of it's functionality get integrated into Facebook I'm all for it.
- Hugh Isaacs II
Paul - that's great news. It surely can't cost a lot to keep this place running and it's a good place to try out ideas before they move to FB.
- Martin Bryant
what about improving the product and making sure it gets more users, not only supports those who stay?
- Ihar Mahaniok
Ihar - unlikely. Facebook bought FF for the developer talent, not for FriendFeed itself.
- Martin Bryant
from iPhone
Martin - I also think so, and it is most likely. But I could still have a hope
- Ihar Mahaniok
Paul, please - underpromise & overdeliver...they say it works.
- A.T.
Nice to hear. Too bad you don't call the shots anymore.
- jcunwired
FriendFeed is Dead! Long Live FriendFeed! (nice name for Facebook skunkworks) I'm sure everyone would love to see FriendFeed itself stay around, even if the innovations that happen are geared towards implementation at Facebook. Thanks for this note Paul! :)
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
There are a few promises and guarantees that you SHOULD be able to provide. Like, that our network of friends will remain intact and that the features that make this site great will remain. If you can't make those promises, then you shouldn't have done the deal. I sure do hope that the real-time search engine wasn't the centerpiece of this deal (it probably was), because that certainly...

Paul you did such a nice job with friendfeed, and I so want to believe you, but I'm not sure I can. Not because of you, but because of your new employer. Because your new employer is no longer you, and while I have kind of come to trust you, I do not trust your new boss. Not at all. Please prove me wrong, if they'll let you.
- Jim Is Not Smart
Paul - thanks for that reassurance. PLEASE stick to that! I was in the middle of reading and participating in a lengthy discussion off of a Robert Scoble post yesterday ... then I came up for air and saw your news. Congratulations - I have no idea what that feels like or how pumped you must be. There are so many things FF does that I LOVE...I know you know that. Please Please PLease dont' go away! Thanks!
- Tobin Truog
Thank you, I think everyone here loves Friendfeed. :)
- Hunt
from BuddyFeed
This is nice to hear, and I really hope that FriendFeed will keep on living. I still have some pain in my stomach because of this :/
- Patrik Johansson
First zombie/mafia request and we're all outta here....
- Fossil Huntress
+1 Fossil Huntress The partitioning of the networks between friendfeed and facebook was a major feature that many people made use of, lacking appropriate controls for who sees what. Merging the two groups of friends isn't going to work, at all.
- Mr. Gunn
we all know what needs to happen. the question is, where? ... FB needs, - apart from being/it is, a large, general, open application platform, - 1. Smart keyboard shortkatze - and Im a kbsCzar to go to, 2. Aggregating facilities, smart /RSS/ .. 3. Full blogging facilities, capabilities, not 140 chars. 4. Full real time comments facilities, capabilities. 5. Real time, live, but ALSO...

I hope you're being open and honest with us. This time. :(
- Kamilah Gill
Thank you! I am sure you will do great things at FB. I just hope that the great app you built here isn't destroyed. I don't know of any other aggregation app that I can embed into my site like this one!
- beersage
Congratulations on your successes, best wishes for more. And thanks for continuing to look out for us loyal, addicted FFanatics!
- Rob Schieber
I hope it continues, i'm a new user and absolutely love it (wish i knew the value of it before)! Congrats!
- Luis D. Santos
As nice as it sounds I'm sorry to say that as a, now, Facebook's employee I'm afraid you'll have to comply to whatever your new boss tells you. Didn't MZ make it clear?
- lelapin
and let me add second, obvious, "Facebook needs" - Friendfeed bookmarklet, and Friendfeed tools - widgets, embedding - real time and not - of posts, and groups ...to embedd, to inject oneself into this thing called Internet ..... so, if FB listens to FF engineering long enough, they are going to get it .. right
- Petr Buben
Paul, what I am worried is not that you're brainwashed, but that there's simply no business need for Facebook to improve FriendFeed from now on, period.
- Ihar Mahaniok
I have confidence Paul. While some of the comments were probably uncalled for, covering an investment (of time and money) in these times to move on and hopefully provide even 'better stuff' makes sense to me. It's pretty obvious there are a LOT of people that don't want to 'lose' Friendfeed. (I wouldn't hold a town hall for a few weeks though :)
- Charlie Anzman
Congrats, Paul. It's sad that people have to make these uncalled for hatred comments about Facebook though. Why can't both sites work together. I think Facebook will do better with FF and vise versa. Take the good features of both services. Don't boycott FB, enjoy it. I'm sick of the negative comments going on, that's all. :(
- Molly, "sorry"
Molly: What makes you think there's going to be a "vise versa?"
- Christopher A Carr
Because I don't think Paul and the other FF developers would allow FB to do anything. I'm sorry, I am not going to think negative here like some here are. I guess I'm a fangirl for FB.
- Molly, "sorry"
Finally something about the changes on the horizon that isn't all d0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0om and whining. Thank you, Paul! :D
- Christian (Simply X)
The time to think about how you could do your 'personal best' to ensure FriendFeed continues to exist was prior to the discussions with Facebook. Not after.
- Andy C
Paul, what about the content scam that FB T&C is, does it apply to Friendfeed now? Should we all start writing scripts to retroactively delete all content ever uploaded to Friendfeed? Elaborated a bit here - http://friendfeed.com/mbravo...
- Michael Bravo
We know you'll try your best, Paul. But sometimes, you just can't win the dark side...
- Winston Teo
Thanks Paul for all your efforts. Founders often want the best, but acquiring companies often have people with political/power issues or different/limited visions.
- Mitchell Tsai
*throws a sheep at Paul* is that a good thing?
- Joe
from iPod
yes, thank you, Sergeant Paul ... well, good to hear we go on ... because if not, how about starting www.anotherFeed.com ... or, www.Letsgofeed.com ...... anyway, lets boost blogging capabilities, post more than current amount of chars, lets have TOP POSTS / clicks count list at the head of each group, some stats, lets index group headers, lets have MORE keyboard shortcuts .. - now ......

- Petr Buben
Well it's certainly a nice shade of pale blue. I think my next Lifestream site will be self-hosted though under my control. This episode has taught me an important lesson. Trust no-one.
- Andy C
It would need to make quite a few changes before it can be used in a way anything like how people use FF.
- Christopher A Carr
I don't want the next Friendfeed, I want *this* Friendfeed. #bitchlips
- Derrick
Just tried signing up and got "500- Internal Server Error". Too many of us jumping on the bandwagon?
- Narain Jashanmal
Looks like Streamy is gonna need a bigger boat...
- Tech Introvert
Is this the tenth "X could be the next Friendfeed" on here today ? :p
- Mark
hrm... their sign up doesn't have a "confirm password" box... typo lockout city for a few people then!
- alphaxion
Streamy errors plus Twitter authentication not responding. Is there a big movement going on since @rww pointed his finger at the next place to go? How short the way from rise to fall.
- Uwe Lucas
Looks promising, it seems (like several other "options" proposed today) to have the potential to capture FF users attention should the time of change arise, yet is still unrefined to do a quick jump... let the competition begin.
- Marco ILLESCAS
Why another friendfeed? So people can join, get comfortable with it, and then be thrown into chaos when it sells out to another company?
- Tomy Thomson
Is there a really a need for this? I don't have a viable alternative, blogging yes, but the built in community isn't there - perhaps services like Hacker News, or Tinythread, still the same issue. I agree with Tommy. Let the dust settle too.
- Benjamin Taylor
I like this idea. I posted some of my thoughts on your site.
- Mark Krynsky
Smart idea. Go wild implementing stuff here, figure out which works in practice and integrate the good ones to Facebook. Doubt that will happen, but let's hope so.
- Chieze Okoye
