same here, I follow the seemingly obvious instructions by FF, but error message gives no clue what went wrong. Hard to know if facebook of friendfeed is source of problem. it might help if an example url was displayed. I get 'format not supported" for http://www.facebook.com/feeds... This is the link that google reader (as my default RSS) accepts.

Finally worked after following these instructions http://friendfeed.com/about... to set custom Privacy settings for "Status and Links" and check "Allow friends to subscribe to my status" (confusing thing was that even before changing this settings, I was able to find the "My Links" URL ok)

minmax: that is because the walled system depends on the judgment of a small group for approval, whereas a more open system enables a larger pool of users to rate and comment resulting in a higher quality of evaluation

Also having same issue. Freindfeed suggests using the freindfeed app for facebook, but that does not seem to work. The freindfeed app sends my post to freindfeed, but not to facebook status or twitter. As a side note, I have had no problems using www.posterous.com to update all services. One email and its done. I still would like to figure out how to link friendfeed facebook and twitter through freindfeed.

Following the FriendFeed instructions, I got Links and Notes to work but I get "It appears that Facebook does not provide a Status feed for your account." I don't see anything denying my status under Privacy or News Feed under the new facebook, but I'm at a loss. Why is facebook not publishing my status feed? Usually at the top next to the category name is the number of unread articles....

feedly only shows you a category is there are unread articles in that category. You can use drag and drop to order categories. Also if you have more than 7 categories and want to be able to see all of them, if you widen the window > 1060px, you will get a new layout with the category navigation on the left.

@Brent you don't need Disqus actually....you can use Backtype connect which imports comments from elsewhere. But you will then need to integrate twitter commenting and facebook connect yourself

From what I've noticed: When I'm at the first page of 2, I only see those markers on the map...from the people that are on the first page. Do you know what I mean? I'm added on the second page, so when I browse through the first page I won't see my marker on the map...only when I go to the next page. I don't know if this makes any sense hehe.

Agree with the article. I used to spend a lot of time at Facebook, discovering and reconnecting with old friends. Then I found out I had little in common with those people I went to high school with. It takes more than a common background to maintain a relationship

@Brad I use Facebook differently than Friendfeed. At Friendfeed I just follow people who talks about the things I like. So straight away I connect to people with the same interests

@Vincent Well, what is friendship in internet terms, really. Somebody wants to 'friend' you based on the fact that you were in the same Calculus class x years ago, and you accepted. Facebook is useful to me for that. But I only 'friend' people I know IRL in Facebook and apparently people I know IRL don't share the same interests with me (I know, sad), so I don't hang out much in Facebook.

From looking at Wave briefly the other day I can easily see it being a social network but, of course, this needs someone to code such a version with the protocol. I've been wishing FF would use the protocol when it was ready, or at least have a Wave version of it's service.

Obviously I can't provide a lot of detailed plans and guarantees, but I can tell you that I'll do my personal best to ensure that the FriendFeed users and community are treated right. I love this product too, and don't want to see it disappear.

Thanks, Paul. I've been getting more and more depressed thinking about the bad ways this could go. The reassurances help a bit, at least. In fact, just hearing you speak on the point is encouraging - the open lines of communication between the FriendFeed team and its users has always been one of the great things about FriendFeed that I'm afraid will be lost with the Facebook buyout. And yes, a FFundercats appearance would be a great idea.

My first reaction is disappointment. I don't believe big corporations do better than small ones. Facebook is inferior to FriendFeed, although it's user base is much larger. Clearly FriendFeed won't survive in the long term, unless it is open sourced. Why not open up and embrace the wonders of the GPL instead of joining forces with the Walled Garden no #1? Facebook don't even operate with permalinks,.

Is there a really a need for this? I don't have a viable alternative, blogging yes, but the built in community isn't there - perhaps services like Hacker News, or Tinythread, still the same issue. I agree with Tommy. Let the dust settle too.
